How much do these bottle collectors really earn?
I see them regularly - people sifting through bins in the suburbs hoping to come t a few return and earn bottles. They’re often elderly and Asian.
What gives? At a minimum wage of $25/hr, that means they’d have to collect and process 250 bottles in one hour for this to beat any above-board job. Hardly possible.
What’s the story here? Am I missing something?
Best late night views of the harbour?
Quiet, not packed.
Bondi Terror Bridge Impersonator Zayne McMillan Jailed for 12 Months Over Antisemitic Mock-Shooting Rant
"While mimicking the Akrams' actions, McMillan — who is Indigenous — shouted "I'm a Koori, this is my land, f--- the Jews" at passers-by, and on the court's findings frightened nearby children to tears"
Is this helpful? will it help decrease antisemitism?
I analysed Google Reviews across 76 Sydney nightclubs for racism complaints. Found 443. The worst offender just got $100k in government funding.
been watching my south east asian mates get turned away from sydney clubs for years. dressed up, sober, polite. bouncer says "at capacity" and the white kids behind them walk straight in. happens every single time we go out.
got sick of it and actually did the work. scraped google reviews across 76 sydney venues, ran the numbers on racism-related complaints.
443 reviews. 84% of them one star. same playbook at every venue — fake "too intoxicated" call before anyone's even spoken, dress code suddenly enforced for one group and not the others, "you dont fit the vibe," or just flat out told certain ethnicities arent welcome.
worst offender by a long way is club 77 on william street. 35 separate complaints. and its not just security going rogue — multiple independent reviewers describe the same bald bloke at the door, who happens to be the owner, personally telling security to knock back indian, arab, asian and african patrons. not a one-off. a pattern, named by strangers who dont know each other.
the kicker — club 77 just picked up $100k in nsw government funding.
full report is on archive.org if anyone wants to read it.
How early do you actually leave to avoid peak hour?
Be honest.
What’s the most unexpectedly good little strip in Sydney?
Not the obvious big destinations. I mean the kind of place you go through for one thing and then realise there’s a bakery, a grocer, one old-school cafe, one weird shop that’s somehow been there forever, and suddenly you’re walking around for an hour.
The best Sydney spots for me are usually not the flashy ones, just a short main strip that somehow has its own personality.
Could be food, bookshops, delis, dessert, whatever. Which one actually surprised you?
Would it possible getting around Sydney with one of these Aus post like mini bikes?
I want to save fuel but don’t exactly need a big car. Would it be legal for me to buy one one of these and drive around Sydney?

Trying to find a random Sydney song from ~2014–2015 (guy handing out CDs in a bar)
This has been stuck in my head for YEARS and I can’t find anything online.
Around 2014–2015 in Sydney, a guy handed me and a friend a CD in a bar. Aussie bloke, independent artist. Most of the tracks were pretty floaty / ambient.
But one track (maybe 3rd or 4th) was completely different — short (around 2–2.5 minutes), high energy, and really comedic. Kind of like an aggressive rant / spoken word / comedic rap.
Lyrics went something like:
“get out of my way... Get out of my way, coz I’m angry and I’ve had a bad day
and you’re in my way
it’s not your fault but you’re gonna pay
with an uppercut and a jab
I’ll knee you in the *****
get out of my way”
I’ve Googled the lyrics and found absolutely nothing, so I’m guessing it was never officially released.
Other details:
* Male Aussie artist
* Handing out CDs himself in a bar
* Sydney (possibly Newtown or CBD)
* Mostly ambient tracks, but this one was a chaotic/funny standout
Does this ring a bell for anyone? Even a vague memory of the artist would help 🙏
Sydney Kinokuniya - All the reading area seats are taken by books, customers forced to seat on the floor.
My favourite book store is not what it used to be. Wanted to view a superhero book with my son (which we ended up buying), the sitting benches by the window were all (deliberately it seems) flooded with books, when we moved a couple to make some space to share a spot with him sitting on my lap - we were told off. Not the vibe I remember this store for.
