I analysed Google Reviews across 76 Sydney nightclubs for racism complaints. Found 443. The worst offender just got $100k in government funding.
been watching my south east asian mates get turned away from sydney clubs for years. dressed up, sober, polite. bouncer says "at capacity" and the white kids behind them walk straight in. happens every single time we go out.
got sick of it and actually did the work. scraped google reviews across 76 sydney venues, ran the numbers on racism-related complaints.
443 reviews. 84% of them one star. same playbook at every venue — fake "too intoxicated" call before anyone's even spoken, dress code suddenly enforced for one group and not the others, "you dont fit the vibe," or just flat out told certain ethnicities arent welcome.
worst offender by a long way is club 77 on william street. 35 separate complaints. and its not just security going rogue — multiple independent reviewers describe the same bald bloke at the door, who happens to be the owner, personally telling security to knock back indian, arab, asian and african patrons. not a one-off. a pattern, named by strangers who dont know each other.
the kicker — club 77 just picked up $100k in nsw government funding.
