I cleaned this gun about a year ago after the previous owner let it collect dust for decades on end. It feels amazing in the hand and I love its aesthetics. My one question is where do I find a good holster for this awesome hole puncher?
A few comments and observations…. I sold an older model blued model 29 mountain gun and purchased this stainless steel model. I was hesitant at first because of all the horror stories on YouTube about quality control issues at S&W. However, I inspected this gun carefully and it showed no flaws. Also, I noticed that the new trigger pull is MUCH smoother than the older models. I think S&W was getting whooped by Colt. Glad to see they spent time tweaking trigger weight and pull. Makes a big difference. FYI, I changed out the Tyler Gun Works grips that came with this gun for the Altomonte grips. These grips are easier for me to hold. Don’t get me wrong, the Tyler Gun Works grips are beautiful. Just a bit too beefy for me. Any comments? Thanks.
So I got this Smith and Wesson model 29-10 and when I first took it to the range shooting this made the palm of my hand feel like it being shredded apart by a cheese grater. So much so that I actually started bleeding kinda badly after about 80 rounds. Now at the time I thought this was due to the checkered pattern in the wooden grips that came with it. So I put these rubber grips onto it. Then recently I took it to the range and then I found out the problem wasn’t the wooden grips that came with it. The problem is actually those vertical lines in the backstrap. Now I could barely even make it through one cylinder due to the vertical lines in the backstrap tearing apart and shredding the skin on the palm of my hand. So I contacted Smith and Wesson about it and they just said that the guns shouldn’t cause that kind of discomfort. They wanted me to send it in to them because they said there must be something wrong with it. But you can clearly see in these provided photos that it looks like it was manufactured to their correct standards. And before you say that it’s just from recoil that’s not true since I can shoot this with no problems wearing gloves. I’ve also got a 454 Casull that kicks harder than this gun but my 454 Casull has an entirely smooth backstrap and I’m able to shoot that gun with no gloves on just fine. Now I’ve watched hundreds of videos about these Smith and Wesson revolvers and I’ve never heard anyone else complain about the vertical lines in the back straps. My question is why am I seemly the only one who takes major issue with this? Has any of you had issues with vertical lines on back straps causing a painful cheese grater effect on the palms of your hands under recoil?
Picked up a pretty minty CS45 today and was curious if anybody knew if magazine extensions exist for them. And if anybody has any recommendations to replace the chunky hogue grip I’d appreciate it. TIA
I have a shield ez 380, that I'd like to put a red dot on. I am aware of the various dovetail mounting solutions out there but honestly, most of them are pretty horrific looking and put the optic ridiculously high. There are more options for the standard shields.
I'm aware that the EZ sights screw to the slide from the inside and the standard shields just use a set screw but do those holes line up? Are the dovetails the same except for the screw? Maybe possible to drill out that set screw hole and tap it for whatever thread pitch the EZ sights use?
I wanna do this but a dovetail optic mount is already a little janky and I don't want to exacerbate that. I understand that this is dumb and odd but everything about the EZ appealed to my wife and I'd like her to be able to take advantage of an optic if it can be done
