SRA2 Rules Clarification/Question

Hoi Chummers!

I'm planning a SRA2 one shot with the hopes that my crew will love the rules and we can play many SRA2 games going forward. While I'll be using the pre gens for the one shot, I decided to run through making myself a character to work out any kinks that I haven't 100% wrapped my brain around yet. It looks like I've run into one such wrinkle. I'm attempting to make a Gun Fu runner. In the Shadow Amps Expanded List I see the Gun Fu quality, which seems right up this character's alley. However, the descriptions for the effects don't make any sense to me. (I hope that it's ok that I copy/paste the effects here, if not, let me know)

Gun Fu (I didn't copy/paste the whole entry, just the effects)

  • RR1 Close Combat (Firearms)
  • On a successful unarmed attack, may spend 1 Edge point to disarm and steal the opponent’s weapon instead of dealing damage.

The first effect is the one that confuses me. Close Combat (Firearms) isn't a specialization that's called out in SRA2. Is this a typo and should read Close Combat (Unarmed)? Or is the effect narratively saying "when using Firearms in close combat"? Or can a new specialization be added to Close Combat? I'm confused on this Quality.

Thanks!

SRA2 Quick Reference Sheets

Hey chummers,

I just noticed a mistake on my SRA 2.0 Quick Reference Sheets. In the "Basic Rules" sheet, it listed Cybercombat using LOG, instead of WIL. It was corrected, along with a clearer write-up for how to manage Close Combat defenses. You can just download your updated version for it. If you got it before April 2026, make sure you update it!

I'd also like to thank the amazing support the community gave me with this little pet project. It started to make it easier for my players to find game information and hopefully may be useful at your tables too.

Many thanks and see you all in the shadows.

Hacking Guns

In original SR6, weapons have a wireless bonus: if they're online it grants some perks but also allow decker's to attempt to hack it. Players must consciously turn their bonuses on or off depending on situation.

How do you all deal with that in SRA2.0? Are weapons "always online by default"? Online only if using certain accessories?

How do the foreverGMs in the house manage this?

Barrens, Squatters, and the Law

Basically: Do squatters have any rights to their territory in the UCAS?

Is there a reason Ares can't just stomp into the Shattergraves and take the barrens as their own property? Is the land held legally by the UCAS, the city in question, the beings who squat there, or is it hypothetically up for grabs if the corp wants to go through the effort?

Asking because I am setting up a guide to the city I run games in, and was wondering why a corp could not just snap up such a location.

EDIT: Thanks for the info, everyone. The consensus seems to be "No rights, and generally not worth it for the Corporations so they don't bother," which is sufficient for me.

Disians in SRA2.0

EDIT - I stopped being lazy, grabbed the conversion and made my own adaptation of the Dis Magician so that we can properly terrorize our players. Hope you find it useful!

I'm planning to add some Disians and Chimeras to my Anarchy game. Before I go through the work of converting them from the 6e Plot books, has anyone done that already? Or would you suggest any of the existing statblocks to represent them?

(BONUS STAGE - what would you use for Red Samurai? Elite Security?)

Decking and Access Levels

If I am in a corporate host, can I make a check to gain Admin access for future rolls on that host, or do I have to gain Admin access every time I interact with a system on that host?

Example: I want to crack into a host, hack a camera to edit the recording into a loop, and hack a lock to open it. This requires Admin access level to do. Which if the following is correct:

  1. Make a Cracking (Brute Force) check against [Host Rating +2] for immediate admin access and take the action against the camera. Make another Cracking (Brute Force) check against [Host Rating +2] for immediate admin access and take the action against the lock.
  2. Make the Cracking (Brute Force) check against [Host Rating +2] to step from outsider to Admin, and then wait till the signal from the team and make a check against [Host Rating] to hack the camera, followed by another Cracking (Brute Force) check against [Host Rating +2] for a new admin access and take the action against the lock.
  3. Make the Cracking (Brute Force) check against [Host Rating +2] to step from outsider to Admin, and then do further checks against [Host Rating] while I remain in the host.

I am assuming I do this undetected, because while it is not explicit, I would understand a GM having my access revoked after each action if spotted.

Big update for Monad//A, the Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0 dice roller - you can now roll dice together at a virtual table! (also risk levels and auto-expand)

Check it out: Monad//A

Hi! Around a month ago I shared Monad//A, a dice roller for Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0. Well, I'm coming back with an update based on your feedback:

  • The dice details will now start off expanded
  • There's a new "risk level" dropdown. It will figure out the risk based on the risk dice count, or it will set the risk dice to an appropriate value, so you don't have to figure it out yourself.
  • And the big one—shared roll tables! You can now use the new "join table" button in the top right to create and/or join a table and your rolls will be synchronised in (near) real-time. Keep in mind your roll history will disappear once the last player leaves the table.

The new interface with the \"join table\" button in the top-right and the new risk level dropdown

Pick your name to create a new table.

The name of the table will be generated for you automatically. Use this name to have others join you.

You can see the current status of the table, who's in it, remind yourself of the name, and leave the table from the \"table status\" popup

Rolls others make will be displayed as your history. When you leave the table, your local history will be restored. You can only delete the rolls that you made.

And of course it's all available in French (table names are not translated 😆)

3rd Holostreets Jam -

Welcome to the 3rd Shadowrun Writing/Holostreets Jam!

After a break the Holostreets Jam is back. It will run from April to Mai, with a 14 day period for public voting at the beginning of June.

  • First place will get: 20 USD
  • Second place will get: 10 USD

I will enter a piece of work as well, though I myself will naturally not be eligible for any of the prizes.

Prizes will be transferred through Paypal.

Rules

  • Participating works must be created during the jam, works that were started beforehand but not finished/published yet are acceptable as well
  • Participating works must be available through Holostreets (so keep in mind you need at least a customer drivethrurpg.com account to participate)
  • Participating works must be available for free, or as a Pay-What-You-Want product, during the voting period (June 1st - June 14th)
  • Participating works must either be in English or include an English translation

Theme

  • This time, any type of project is permitted, however it must fit on 2 pages at most.

The idea is to produce something compact and table-ready for GMs and/or Players, which at the same time does not require months long commitment to produce.

Examples:

  • An abbreviated description of a mission
  • A small list of new equipment with stats
  • A detailed description of an NPC
  • A short story
  • An inspiring poem

Helpful things

Here are some links that might help clarify things or help you get started:

Holostreets Content Guidelines

Drivethrurpg Content and Format Help - scroll down to 'How do I prepare the PDF of my title for sale?'

Shadowrun Logos - provided by Catalyst

Shadowrun Art Pack - provided by Catalyst, the link leads to the first one but there are six in total on Holostreets - in case you want some art to decorate your work

Single Page Template - provided by Catalyst, usable in Affinity Publisher and Adobe inDesign, probably also in Scribus (haven't tried it so use at own risk) - watch out, the Template contains Pay-To-Use Fonts for some reason, you need to either replace these or buy a license

Google Fonts - if you need any fonts, each has a tab which lists the used license (so you know if its free or not)

Unsplash - A page for mostly free to use stock images, you can set a filter for the free stuff, though they still require attribution

Text/Rules references

Should you need to reference lore or rules from pre-existing books for your own work (for example the spellcasting rules from one of the Shadowrun Core books), refrain from simply copying the text. Without explicit permission from the rights-holders that would not be permissible and since, unlike other TTRPG companies in their Third-Party Content Guidelines, Catalyst has not explicitly done so. So it's easiest to just avoid doing it.

However, you can still point readers towards those necessary passages, here's a quote from J. Keith Henry, whom some may know as a contributor to several Shadowrun books on how to do it properly:

References for other books normally appear as “p. 45, /SR6/“ and are fully legit to use. Book titles are italicized. If a section of a book like a page header were to be referenced it would be “CHAPTER HEADER, p. 45, /SR6/“. Chapter headers are bold. Book titles are italicized.

Also encapsulate the reference in parentheses ( ).

How to publish something on Holostreets

On drivethrurpg click on Account - in the menu, there will be an option for Community Content(my Content in the old layout) - here you have to click on Enter new CC/Community Created Title - in the mask that has now opened up, you have to select "Holostreets"

That's the basics, after that you have to work your way through this and the following pages, enter the product description, upload a cover, upload your work itself etc.

Nuyen in Anarchy

Hoi Chummers, I’ve been really into the lore of shadowrun for awhile now but the rules of the game make my head spin and are way too crunchy (and I even like a decently crunchy system). Found Shadowrun Anarchy and it seems perfect for games I want to run but I’m not the biggest fan of Karma being used to buy gear. Likewise the system lacks lifestyle and I like the idea of needing to make rent in order to survive, fits the themes of cyberpunk as a genre.

Had anyone tried to add these aspects into their anarchy games? Or any advice on how to do it? I’m thinking for lifestyle it can do what it does in normal shadowrun, as-well as provide a place for players to store more weapons since the limit is 6?

I’m going to be using Shadowrun 1.0 mainly because I am broke rn and already have a copy of the original.

Intro one-shot planning

Next weekend I am running a one-shot for a group of friends. They all are at least familiar with the SR universe (through its boardgames, videogames, older editions etc). It will be more of an opportunity to learn the current rules and a different way to interact with this amazing world. Depending on how this game goes, we may jump into an actual campaign.

I am at a divide and I'd like your opinion on this. Should I make a very typical run, with usual tropes, so they feel the "core" SR experience? Or already foreshadow stuff from the current metaplot (DSW) to see if they bite it and invest on its long term campaign? Or a different route altogether?

Help a GM out, chummer.

Using Risk Dice when doing Legwork Test?

My players wanted to gain some extra Edge to the planning pool by taking adding up some Risk Dice to the roll. I was kinda okay with that, but figured that Glitch (or Disaster) at Legwork would be a bummer. So, options are kinda limited:

a) No Risk Dice at Legwork Test

b) Allow Risk Dice, but do not count '1', which may lead to lots of hits

c) Allow Risk Dice, count '1', apply Glitches as usual (character starting gig with Serious wound? combat scene at Legwork?)

I've picked option a), but what do you think?

As for the source, here's what I found:

p. 70:

When running the shadows, you have to take risks. (Legwork is not the run, per se?)

On every Test, the player may replace some of their dice with Risk Dice.

p. 78:

... each player decides how their character is going to contribute during the run prep, and rolls a Legwork Test: a Simple Test with the character’s most relevant Skill.

Watcher Spirits in 1.0

Until I can get my hands on 2.0, I’ll be using the original edition of shadowrun anarchy. I can’t find any mention or rules about watcher spirits in 1.0

How would you homebrew them into your game, or do just add a stat block and have players summon and use them like any other spirit.

Character Creating!

Hello! Has anyone been playing with making characters using the pdf? Would anyone like to? I'm looking for ideas for a Doc Wagon team, to see how a non-standard set of characters might look like.

Melee on drones

my table's rigger is having a little melee trouble, we're not sure what to roll.

if hes in captains chair, and he asks the drone to melee attack, whats his pool?

if hes jumped in to the drone, whats his/his drones pool to melee?

if hes in captains chair, what are the drones rolling for ranged and melee defense when they get attacked?

Edit: anarchy 2.0

Interested in a Holostreets Jam?

Hi,

Hope it's ok to post this here.

So I ran a couple of game jams in the past, over in the englisch SR subreddit. Their focus was on publishing something on Holostreets, with the goal of making it a yearly writing jam. They had loose themes and a bit of prize money each time. Since life got in the way last year, I am thinking of starting a new one now.

The theme would probably be something simple - like: Create something that fits on 1 or 2 pages max

Let me know if you are interested!

I created a Character Generator

Hey all, I just started playing Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0. I am an og Shadowrun player from the first edition but haven't played for years and years and sra2 really got me excited. My gaming group has several new to rpgs in general players and me and our dm were afraid the complexity for char Gen might be problematic. Also I love theory crafting different characters rapidly (it's game within a game) and I wanted something to help me do that. While there are a few tools put there, I really don't like pdf or excel based generators. As a software engineer by day, whipping this out was no hassle and I thought I'd give back to the community. This is 100% free to use, no upsell later.

Features:

Full responsive browser support, works great on phones to full displays.

Upload profile pics.

Pdf export or use the site in Play Mode to easily have your digital character sheet in front of you.

Supports standard char Gen rules relating to various play levels (ganger thru elite) plus modifiable starting cash. So this will automatically handle attribute and skill max rules amd will keep track of your spend for all things.

All shadow amps are there! Every damn thing from the extended list is pickable.

Online dice rolling and integration to your game's discord! You can roll animated dice and all the risk dice and glitch rules are handled. The roll will publish to a discord channel of your choice if you play in a campaign.

Campaigns! If you create a campaign you can send invites to your players and also integrate with Discord. More campaign related features are planned.

This has been beta tested by my group so it seems pretty stable. But let me know if there are any bugs or feature requests.

You create an account with an email. This is just to send you your password if you forget it. I don't used the emails in any way. You will not be contacted by me and I don't sell them.

After login, you can make unlimited characters and join multiple campaigns with them. You are limited to 5 pics per character, we'll see how it goes for storage space.

Have fun, and let me know what you think!
