The ebay s t dupont listings are completely out of control

And while ive come here to complain i am going to do something about it. Bought 3 duponts, all fake. Its personal. Seller of one claims to be in spain and wants to make returns difficult. HERE IS THE THING-i asked for refund not return, im not sending back fraudulent goods so they can be sold as authentic again and ive demanded proof they tell all the other buyers of their duponts they bought fake lighters for hundreds of dollars in some cases. Im not sending them back and i want my money back, im destroying them i find their existence noisome and offensive. This person has made hundreds of dollars of this blatant scam in a single day. Id like to sell people things that belong in a landfill for hundreds of dollars too, but i have this thing called integrity. Scammers need life in prison.

I dont know about you guys usually id just get a refund and let this go-not this time. The fact I have to do forensic analysis on every listing i want to buy wasting a bunch of time infuriates me. The fact S T Dupont has no database to cross reference serial numbers proves to me french incompetence because WHY EVEN HAVE SERIAL NUMBERS! It would be like if here in america we put serial numbers on firearms and just never bothered to jot them down anywhere.

Im going to be hall monitoring the st dupont listings and demanding sellers relist as fugazzi or take down the listing preferably, then still report them so there is a record of that sellers bullshit. If you want to tell me i should have expected a fake for 60 bucks-nope. Ive accuired authentic dunhill lighters for 52 and 61 dollars there is no excuses for this that would satisfy me. I would encourage anyone with the time and temperment to join me in my crusade against fake and gay chinese knock off chunks of garbage metal. Why do we even trade with the chinese at this point?! is anything they send us not inferior to the same thing made by literally anyone else? even Togo?

Help with a strange gas valve

Hello everyone,

some days ago I bought quite cheaply this black laquer L1 that seemd in decent shape, my idea was to service, rehaul it and then resell with a good margin but... it leaks from the gas valve, and the gas valve is a non Dupont one stuck there by someone at a certain point.

Does anyone here has any experience in disassembling this kind of valve? I'd start looking for a screw that will lock into it, but any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

New to Reddit and the lighter world

This belonged to my grandfather and I’m trying to find out whether it is authentic and its value . Thanks in advance for any help and insight.

What do I have here?

Looks like the watchmaker I bought a desk from had a thing for lighters also.

Some details: Both indicate requiring GREEN butane adapter

$450/ea or $800 for both, fair and reasonable offers accepted.

Shipping to CONUS only, shipping from Virginia.

Surprise !

(See photos) I purchased this lighter from an antique dealer, complete with only the red booklet, as he wrote in the ad. After purchasing it, I looked at the last page of the booklet and read that it was printed in December 1996, meaning the lighter was manufactured later. Then, in the box, I saw that tab (indicated by the arrow). I lifted it, and the entire base rose up, revealing the presence of the Service Center booklet and the Warranty stamped by the original seller: December 16, 1998! Now I know for certain that the lighter was manufactured in 1997 or 1998.

Got an old lighter from my late uncle in Japan

Hey everyone!

I've been trying to research this lighter that I received from my late uncle in Japan. I'm not familiar with these lighters at all, and am curious to learn more about it and its potential value.

It looks like it hasn't been used much, but is not "as new". From what I've found so far, it looks to be this model: 14201, made some time in the early 1970s.

It came in its original box with two manuals, one English and one Japanese. Does it being a Japanese export version with original booklets make it more valuable?

I wonder if this is interesting to anyone? I am open to selling it as well, but I am hoping to learn more as well.

Thank you all for your help and interest!

Best regards

Autentification

My fathers or uncles, probably over 30 years old. I know it isnt worth much and it's in terrible condition but it has sentimental value. I would like to know if it's real before I do any work on it.

Vintage S.T. Dupont identification and (light) restoration request.

Hi friends,

I’ve had this vintage S.T. Dupont lighter for a while now. I believe my great-uncle bought it in Paris, and when I got into cigars my mum gave it to me.

From what I’ve been able to gather, it seems to be a Ligne 1 small model from somewhere around the late 1960s to early 1970s, but I’d love to hear more from the experts here.

The iconic “ping” is still there a little bit, but definitely not in its full capacity. The hinge and lid alignment actually seem quite good to me, so I’m wondering whether a careful cleaning and some basic maintenance (preferably without fully disassembling it) could help bring some of that resonance back.

The flame performance also seems a bit weak. I suspect regular butane may have been used in it at some point in its life, which might have left some residue in the internals. Right now the flame starts relatively large and then quickly settles smaller after ignition.

Would love to hear your thoughts on dating it more precisely, and what could realistically be done to restore some of her former glory while keeping things as original as possible.

Does anyone know how to inflate this? This inflation port is different from regular ones - regular ones are pressed down to inflate, but with this one you need to pull the middle part up

Please help me Authenticate this Lighter!

I found this ST. Dupont lighter online and am unsure if it is legit. Any help would be appreciated!

Dupont

Failed repair, please help.

I got this very old st dupont ligne 1 that belonged to my great grandfather. I tried to replace the seals since it leaked but i did something wrong and now the valve is stuck inside the lighter. In trying to remove it I damaged it. Can i get it out if i take out the bottom valve? And does anyone have a valve for sale? Or knows where i can buy one?

u/MrMustageMan108 — 4 days ago

I recently overhauled two BS models and found differences in some details. These differences were introduced in 1966 when the serial numbering system switched from 5 to 6 digits, or in 1967 when the second version was introduced (from horizontal to vertical lettering on the bottom). I'm not sure about this, what do you think? Note the different flame valves: the old one is at the top, the new one at the bottom. Then the gas shut-off lever: the first version is on the right, the new one on the left. The plate stopper: the first version is on the right, the later one on the left. The pin and spring of the lid opening system: the first (longer) version is on the right, the later one on the left.

Failed repair update

Update. I got the valve out luckily but as you can see it's absolutely knackered. Do you guys think it will still work or should I get a new one? And if so, where can I find a new one?
