Help with a strange gas valve

Hello everyone,

some days ago I bought quite cheaply this black laquer L1 that seemd in decent shape, my idea was to service, rehaul it and then resell with a good margin but... it leaks from the gas valve, and the gas valve is a non Dupont one stuck there by someone at a certain point.

Does anyone here has any experience in disassembling this kind of valve? I'd start looking for a screw that will lock into it, but any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hello everyone, what is your method to clean very old and dirty guillochée lighters? Mine is the following:

- I disassemble the upper part, the roller, the lid plaque, the gas cap and wash them on the ultrasonic cleaner bath.

- I assemble again the lighter, after changing o-rings and gaskets as needed, then I clean the external part with isopropanol and a soft microfibre cloth.

- I clean again with an appropriate silver or gold cleaning cloth.

- I apply a tiny amount of numismatic microcrystalline wax with another microfibre cloth.

It works nice, but I still don't get a perfect result, save for the parts that I wash with ultrasound.

What's your recipe?

I am curious to hear 😀

Hello everyone,

I’ve just disassembled - following the advice given in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_E-DLhYyPo - two very early production S.T. Dupont Ligne 1 Grand Modèle BR (the type where you need to remove the lid to service them).

The lighters appear essentially identical:

  • same early mechanism
  • same finish (silver grain d’orge)
  • same overall construction

However, one of them has a very unusual gas nozzle:

  • shorter than usual
  • no threading
  • not screwed into the body

The other one has the expected threaded/screw-in nozzle.

I know early Ligne 1 production went through several internal revisions, especially around the fuel system and stopper mechanisms , but I’ve never come across this specific configuration before.

  • So my question is: Has anyone seen this type of nozzle on early L1? Could this be a very early subvariant, or more likely a later modification/repair?

Thanks in advance!

Following a discussion in another thread about the differences between mid-production and late-production S.T. Dupont Ligne 1 BR GM models, I’m sharing some photos to highlight the key distinctions between the two.

Below is a breakdown of the main differences. I’ll start with the late-production version (silver), followed by the mid-production version (gold):

  • U-shaped hinge instead of W-shaped
  • Longer screw instead of shorter
  • Different threaded hole for the screw
  • Simpler gas shut-off mechanism
  • Decorative plaque inside the lid is glued rather than screwed

As far as I know, there is also another late-production variant with the same characteristics shown here, but featuring a BS-style gas screw cap. I’ve added reference photos from my archive in the comments.
