Best Thai food in Salem?
Tomorrow is my birthday! We moved to the area in September. Wanting to go out to lunch for my birthday tomorrow. I've been craving Thai Tea! Where is the best place in town to get Thai food?

Since the post mentions Reddit, I figured I'd post it on Reddit... it's the circle of life.
The more I read about this, the more I believe we need to vote Julie Hoy out before she does more to completely ruin the city:
Local writer Brian Hines with the details:
"Since Julie Hoy is seeking to be reelected as mayor in the May election, voters should keep in mind that while Hoy was the undisputed ringleader of the secretive scheme that drew in unwitting city council members, Hoy refused to admit that she did anything wrong, despite solid evidence to the contrary, and she never stopped lying about her attempt to get rid of the city manager."
I read my 3 year old a book called Dim Sum Palace by X. Fang. Remarkably delightful book. Predictably, she wants to go to there.
Where does the hive mind recommend we go for dim sum? And if you do have a recommendation, can you also recommend specifically what to order? I've never had it, not really sure what it is, although the book makes it sound like it involves dumplings and who doesn't like a good dumpling?
My neighbor whose partner (I assume he is her partner) just very recently got back surgery just told me she got an eviction notice from our property management company. I don't think she has the energy to find resources right now from the sounds of it. I have looked online for rental assistance and left several messages but I'm curious if anyone has any insight into organizations that help with that kind of thing. I know a ton of people need this kind of help but I thought it was worth checking if anyone knows anything
I am about to get full custody of my son, as his mother and her boyfriend had gotten him taken by DHS. He is currently in a foster home. I have fought like hell to get my boy. I can get him as soon as I get a place to live. I am currently homeless at the moment. I recently got approved for the section 8 housing voucher, so things are looking up. With that being said, Does anybody know of any places or programs that can assist or help financially with moving into a home. (i.e. First month, last month, and/or security deposit) Does anybody know of any houses that are up for rent that may take the section 8 voucher?
I'm just a single dad, I have a full-time job, and I work very hard. I happen to fall into a rough patch in my life and am slowly, but surely bouncing back. My son is my entire world, I have fought like hell to get him back, and I will not give up. I am so close, I am right frikkin' there!
I am so proud of myself. To have worked so hard, to have came from where I was at in life, to where I am at now, is day and night difference.
I am not one to ask for help... Ever. But here lately I've had to swallow my pride and do some of that. Especially pertaining to my son and getting him home. Which brings me here, to seek help and ask for guidance. If anybody knows any information about either of those two things, I'd very much appreciate it if you could help me out.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I truly appreciate it. I hope you have an amazing day.
Can anyone who's been to the new restaurant Jade Dumpling and Noodle House in the Forge let me know how their experience has been? I'm considering going later this week for my birthday. However, I've heard mixed reviews, seemingly due to the fact that they just opened. If you've been, do you suggest going, or should I wait a little while longer until they've gotten more into the swing of things?
My bicycle was stolen from the Willamette Landing Apartments due to our front gate being under repairs. WE HAVE YOU ON CAMERA!!!!! Waiting for our landlady to send us the videos. PLEASE HELP US RETURN IT! Our car was stolen in October, and we barely scrounged enough money to buy this bike so my fiancé could get to work and back. We won’t press charges if returned, but will if not returned. We JUST spent a lot of money to repair it and upgrade it, please don’t do this to us 😭 my fiancé has no way to get to work now.
I apologize if this is a topic brought up before, however I'm looking for a Spanish conversation group, something relaxed at a local coffee shop/the library/ that kinda thing. I used to be fluent (as a kid), and don't want to take - or need to take - a Spanish class. Rather, I'd like to practice and boost my confidence by having conversations with others who speak it or are learning to.

My allergies are off the charts this year. Worse than they have ever been. So much so that even my husband is having trouble with allergies (he is usually fine) and the dog is scratching like hell. Anyone else?

hi salem subreddit 👋 i’ve lived here for about three years now, and while i really don’t hate it here, i feel like there’s NOTHING to do. i’d really like to get outside and explore more, but i haven’t had any luck finding things that catch my interest.
i know people are paranoid about giving out locations to abandoned buildings and that sort of thing, but if by any chance someone wants to share something like that with me in dms or the comments, that would be awesome. i doubt i’ll get any bites on that, though.
besides that, i’d love some new places to go outdoors. parks, nature reserves, anything that’s not pure suburbia?
my last priority here is any social locations, since i’m 18 and too young to drink, and any recommendations i’ve seen are just bars. i’m in the worst age range for meeting any new people i think. still, if you know anywhere that somehow seems worth checking out, i’m all ears.
thanks in advance, sorry for this weirdly structured socially inept post 🙏
So my family is coming to Salem pretty soon, and naturally they want to do some wine tasting or visit a vineyard. However, I don't drink alcohol, so I'm wondering if there are any wine tasting spots that also offer decent food, or other fun things to see in close proximity.
Basically, who has the best charcuterie, tapas, whatever. Thanks!
Edit: So many great responses here, I'll have to do a bit of research on these before deciding. Thanks everyone!
We have been getting some work done around the house and I'm noticing a trend that, maybe I can get some clarification on.
Why do contractors around here not itemize their quotes?
We had landscaping done. Took 3 quotes to get anything itemized and we ask for it itemized every time.
Just got a quote from an electrician. Same deal. They list what they will do, but not what I'm paying for independently (such as, what's my cost for the run of wire? How much does the conduit cost?).
This is wildly different from the other places I have lived and it seems really shady, but every quote we get is coming this way.
Am I missing something? Or is this just how businesses are here?
Hiii, I am planning on starting a book club, I am hoping to follow the book list of The Sedo Diaries. If anyone is interested let me know. I plan to meet once a month and just discuss the book, grab coffee and hopefully make friends:)
Hello, What's Happening Salem is back with another event! We loved seeing folks out and about making friends, we thought we'd bring it back. It is still free!
Come meet some of your Salem neighbors for a couple hours on Tuesday, April 28 from 5:30 to 7:30. Register just so we can have a headcount, but feel free to just walk in. See ya then!
You: blue Hyundai Elantra with a lot of really cool stickers all over (character from The Owl House, Sonic anti AI sticker, various others)
Me: someone who has a huge friend crush on you and wants to see if we could be friends
I am looking to be more active. I have a gym membership which I should use more but I find it really boring and I really like activities like tennis or pickleball or just some variety. I am a young in spirit 56 yr old married woman who would love to meet a few people who are somewhat my age but don't have to be, to meet up at local parks to hit the ball around. I was very active when I was younger but with raising a family, work and life, I let that part of my life slack off but want to get it back. I did join a local pickleball group awhile back but it was a bit to "old" for me and also, it was like a high school clique which is not my style. I still work but have a lot of flexibility. Mornings are best for me and when it is cool. If you have interest, feel free to message me. Thanks !
