Dim Sum Palace

I read my 3 year old a book called Dim Sum Palace by X. Fang. Remarkably delightful book. Predictably, she wants to go to there.

Where does the hive mind recommend we go for dim sum? And if you do have a recommendation, can you also recommend specifically what to order? I've never had it, not really sure what it is, although the book makes it sound like it involves dumplings and who doesn't like a good dumpling?

Portland fabric stores for garment sewing, and why do quilters have a stranglehold on this city?

I'm going to spend the day fabric hunting pretty soon. I've only ever been to Mill City, I'm sure there's other shops worth checking out? What do you like? Need me to pick you up something to save you the drive?

I got a notice that this post is breaking rules because it's not exactly about Salem. So fine. Why does everyone quilt here? How are we able to support 3 quilting shops? Why are garment sewists so maligned? What do you need to open the fabric shop of my dreams? Personally, I need more time and knowledge of the industry, so I can't do it.
