Diagnostic Sonography

I am preparing for the PSEA test to get into the Diagnostic Sonography program. I cannot find any resources regarding what to study. Where can I get some study material or exam prep questions. Please help. Also I heard that the math question is similar to GED math. Should I prepare for GED math and get similar questions?

RT PSEA (Fall 2027)

Hello!

I am going to be writing the RT PSEA in the following months and I wanted to know what was the best way to study for it?

Also, what is the format of the test, how difficult are the questions, and overall what course topics I should review from reading comprehension / math / chem & bio / career ALIS.

Thanks in advance!

THET or Electrical Trades and Technology

Hi, the name is phil and I am a resident here in yyc, originally from the Philippines, wife and daughter are here. I am very interested in the heavy duty mechanics trade but hesitant cause I don’t want to be away from the family all the time, saw that the work-life balance sucks if you are a diesel mechanic… fifo, camps, on the road all the time, with that being said, I do have an IT background in the Philippines and am also interested in being an electrician, being able to make as much as a jman elec as a HD mech and being at home everyday is a win-win for me. Whatchu guys think?

Optician or Nuclear Med Tech? I need Advice

I need help deciding which program at SAIT I want to be in, and possibly what career I want to lead into. For starters, both of these programs are things I am interested in, however they have differing pros and cons. I am in 12th Grade and I initially wanted to do Nuclear Med Tech because that was my first option, but now as my school work is getting super stressful to get the requirements I need I'm having second thoughts.

For Optician, the program itself I'm just as interested in as Nuclear Med Tech. If I do get the diploma I'd want to be an optical lab tech that repairs or fixes lenses. have the requirements already for it, so i don't need upgrading. The only thing is that I prefer the salary of Nuclear Med rather than Optician. The salary for optician is $40,000-50,000. So the thing that makes me hesitant to do this program is just if the pay will be alright.

For Nuclear Med Tech this was my first option. It has a higher starting salary of $73,000, and the work itself is something I'm interested in because I want to be a PET scan tech. The only unfortunate problem is that I'm lacking two of the requirements for it (Chem 30 and Math 30-2). Unfortunately I am stupid and have a 65 in math when I need a 75, and my grade in chem isn't looking so good at a 60 when I need a 70 minimum. It sucks because I just feel so discouraged to do this program that I like because of these requirements, and I have to academic upgrade on top of that.

I don't know, I think I am just stressed out as a 12th grader. Lmao

Civil Engineering Diploma

My son has received an offer from Lakehead University for a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. We live in Calgary, so I’m also considering another path: having him complete a Civil Engineering diploma at SAIT first, then transferring to Lakehead afterward.

Lakehead’s transfer requirement is at least a 70% average (either in the final year or cumulative over the diploma). My son is an average student—not sharp minded —but he is hardworking and consistent.

I’m trying to understand how realistic this pathway is.

  • How difficult is it to achieve a 70% average in SAIT’s Civil Engineering diploma?
  • Roughly what percentage of students in a typical class reach 70% or higher?
  • Is grading generally strict or fair in this program?
  • How heavy is the workload compared to first-year university engineering?
  • Do most students who aim for transfer actually succeed?
  • Are there specific “weed-out” courses where students struggle the most?
  • Would going directly to university be a better option for an average but hardworking student?
  • Any advice from someone who has taken this exact pathway (SAIT → Lakehead)?

I’d really appreciate any honest insights or experiences.

Marks required to transfer from Civil Engineering Diploma to Civil Engineering program

The stated requirement for transferring from a Civil Engineering diploma to the Bachelor’s in Engineering program at Lakehead University is a minimum 70% average (either in the final year or cumulative over both years of the diploma). However, I understand that this is only the minimum eligibility requirement.

My question is: what average is typically needed in practice to actually secure a transfer into the Civil Engineering program at Lakehead? I know it can vary from year to year, but I’m looking for a rough idea based on past experience.

For example:

  • Is 70% usually enough, or do most successful applicants have higher averages (e.g., 75%–80%+)?
  • How competitive is the transfer process overall?
  • Are there limited seats for transfer students?

Any insight from students who have gone through this process would be really helpful.

DMS – looking for advice

Hi all,

I was accepted into the DMS program at SAIT starting September 2026, and I’m looking forward to getting started.

I know it’s a competitive program to get into, so I’m grateful to have been accepted. I’ve been doing some research into DMS and the day-to-day work, and it’s something I can see myself enjoying.

For context, I’m coming from a software development background. I graduated into a bad job market and found it difficult to get into the field, which pushed me to pivot out of it. Stability and employability were definitely factors in choosing DMS, but I also want to make sure I’m going into something that’s a good fit long-term.

I had a few questions for current students or grads:

  • How is the program structured in terms of workload and schedule? Six courses per semester sounds intense—what does a typical week look like?
  • Are the days full of holes like other programs usually are, where you'll have lots of open slots between classes?
  • Are there certain courses that are especially challenging or time-consuming?
  • Is the program taught assuming no prior medical background, or do most students come in with healthcare experience?
  • How does the cohort system work? 40 people (from what I've read) in the program seems high. Are you usually in the same group for everything, or split into smaller sections?
  • What’s the general demographic like (age range, career changers vs. straight from high school)?
  • Did you take open studies to lighten the course load before starting, and if so, was it worth it, or is it fine to leave the courses for the program?
  • Is there any free time outside of the program, or is most of your time going to be put towards studying?
  • Any advice you wish you had before starting?

I’d really appreciate any insight—thanks in advance!

Academic Upgrading

I have quit my job to be able to study and focus full time in my AU in May.
Would a case load of 3 courses (Math 10- Bio 20 - Science 10) be too intense? I don't want to set up myself for failure as Science is not my ''forte''.
I need to do ALL Sciences: Chemistry- Bio - Physics- Maths.

Just wondering what would be the best combination. Wondering if Science Prep is worth it as you can prepare yourself and study and try to place higher in upgrading..

I don't see much stories of people that have quite that amount of upgrading to do... Would like some insight. Thank you!

Reconciliation case competition with a $10,000 prize pool, May 11-14 in Calgary

If you’re an MRU student looking for something genuinely meaningful to do in May, the Seven Generations Challenge runs May 11-14. It’s the first annual edition and it actually started as the idea of an MRU Indigenous student.

What it is: a reconciliation case competition. Teams are 50/50 Indigenous and settler students. You’ll be working alongside students from UCalgary and SAIT, plus Treaty 7 Indigenous youth, on a real challenge grounded in TRC Call to Action 92 and Two-Eyed Seeing.

Why it’s worth your time:

•	Full Forward Summit attendance (the conference itself runs $1,500+ to attend)

•	Indigenous students get an honorarium from Canada Bridges

•	$10,000 prize pool across the teams

•	Built with Canada Bridges and the Iniskim Centre, so the structure is the real thing, not a reconciliation theme bolted onto a normal case comp

•	Career-relevant in a way most case competitions aren’t. Employers in Alberta are paying serious attention to who can do this work credibly.

Who should apply: students who think in systems, who can sit with complexity, who want to do real work across difference. Any year, any program. Indigenous and non-Indigenous students both encouraged.

Applications close Friday May 8 at midnight: http://mru.ca/sevengenerations

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Seeking Like-Minded Students to Build Ideas & Ventures Together

I’m looking to connect with curious, driven people who love building ideas from the ground up. especially people in entrepreneurship, marketing, branding, operations, supply chain, artist, AI/data science, product development, or anyone who naturally thinks outside the box.

I’m constantly coming up with ideas across different industries — consumer products, apps, product ideas, and local service businesses.

Some ideas are simple. Some have bigger long-term potential. What I’m missing is the right group of people to help challenge ideas, organize them, pressure-test them, and build something real together.

I have ADHD and dyslexia, which means my brain tends to work in very creative, big-picture ways. I’m strongest when collaborating with people who are good at execution, strategy, structure, or turning concepts into actionable plans.

I previously joined Launchpad to meet collaborators, but the schedule wasn’t the right fit for me.

Looking for people who are, creative problem-solvers, builders and strategic thinkers, comfortable with ambiguity and early-stage idea, marketers, developers, researchers, analysts, operators, or multi-skilled generalists, curious, resilient, and ambitious.

I’m interested in building real ventures — not just endlessly talking about ideas. For some concepts, I may ask collaborators to sign an NDA before discussing details.

If this resonates with you, send me:

your background or skills, interests you’re excited about anything you’ve built, explored, or worked on (totally okay if you’re early in your journey or if your completely new to this and your just likeminded like me.)

Bonus if you enjoy connecting ideas across industries and spotting opportunities other people miss.

Please reach out if you’re interested in meeting to discuss ideas. Ideally, I would love to connect with fellow University of Calgary, SAIT and MRU students who have the tenacity, curiosity, and drive to actually build and see things through.

Please email me directly.

Is there a SAIT running or cycling club?

Hey!

Checked on Rubric and Strava but don’t see one. I see the PEARS club has a marathon event soon but do they do normal runs or bike rides as well?

My program just started. Do the clubs wait until June do start putting on events?
