Are we in the UK more disconnected from the outdoors compared to other places?

This is a just a general feeling I have had that we are far less outdoorsy than places like Scandinavia, the US, Canada and other parts of Europe.

I suspect a lack of right to roam in England and Wales in particular may have a lot to do with it, restricting where we can do outdoor activities, but I feel we are on average a quite indoorsy people.

Interested to know if anyone feels the same I do.

I live near the chalk pits in Cherry Hinton, where this pair of falcons have been nesting for years. My partner and I enjoyed seeing these birds in the chalk pits and are upset to see this article.

I just wanted to say fuck you to whoever is shooting at these birds. Scum.

Edit: the article does say that being shot is not confirmed as cause of death, only that there is evidence it was shot at some point. Peregrines in the wild are frequently shot at for a number of reasons, I wanted to convey my disapproval of this practice and also it is sad to hear that one of this lovely birbs is now gone from the chalk pits.

Newbie to the sub, here's some pics of what surrounds my little village.

I live close to the South Downs National Park, fairly out of the way of the city. it's very peaceful and one of those places where you see the same faces daily.

were surrounded by farmland and woodland, with many nature reserves within a 10 minute drive.

Another plus is there's an observatory near us so after midnight all streetlamps go out until morning, allowing for stunning night skies which I just wouldn't trade in for anything.

I just love living so close to nature.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could spare 1-2 minutes to fill in my anonymous questionnaire!

This isn’t an ad!

I’m genuinely curious for feedback :)

I want to start a mail club based around a uk animal each month being a different one. Each month you’ll receive a letter and some photos around that animal. There would be a small cost.

I’m curious to know do you guys think it’s a good idea or bad idea?

Is it something you think you’d ever subscribe too?
