Harlingen CISD set to permanently close two schools due to low enrollment

For the first time in over 60 years, Harlingen CISD trustees voted to close down two elementary schools at the school district. The schools that are set to permanently closed are Crockett Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School. The reason the schools are closing is due to low enrollment.

Other school districts in the RGV and the state of Texas are also seeing a concerning trend of declining enrollment.

A Harlingen woman won a $7M grant to teach Texans how to farm. Then the Trump administration yanked it over DEI.

I read the article, and I’m really sorry, but how the ever living fuck is that a $7.5 million dollar charity? Totally serious.

Where do I meet nerds in the Valley? Mostly McAllen area

I’m M24 and trying to get back out there. Got tired of dating apps and want to socialize.

I know all the comments are gonna be like “they’re at home playing video games”

And they’re probably right, but there’s gotta be some kind of gathering of people at some place somewhere who embrace nerd culture and internet humor but IRL.

I think I heard of some place or restaurant that hosts Smash Bros tournaments?

Open to any suggestions. I like Minecraft, Rivals, Fortnite, Invincible, Nintendo, DC, Marvel to name a few things

Book donations needed for Weslaco student's little library initiative

It’s beautiful. I would love for this to work. But I bet every book will be stolen and the boxes will be vandalized.

Theories as to why the Valley calls movies "vistas"

After doing some digging, it looks like we are the only region in the world that calls movies "vistas" in Spanish instead of "peliculas."

My theory (which is somewhat supported by some research) is that it's tied to Paramount's Vistavision cameras and their advertising in local theaters in the 1950s. The word probably just stuck with the growing Hispanic/Spanish speaking population down here.

Any other possible theories as to why this strange little phenomenon may have occurred?

Former Sullivan City manager indicted on theft charges

On the grift scale, this is almost insignificant. When are the corrupt fire marshals and building inspectors going to get nailed? (If an investigator who wants to make a name for themselves is reading this, set up a honeypot building that’s obviously a fail. Call a fire marshal / inspector and see how many of them take bribes.)

No piercings job establishments?

I’m planning to apply for an entry level job soon but my look is on the alternative side with minimal visible tattoos and face piercings. Based on your experiences for those who have face piercings and all, what are some entry level job establishments to avoid that don’t accept that look. If you are against piercings and it doesn’t affect in any ways, please ignore and keep comments to yourself. Thank you

Where do older men hang out ?

I'm a girl in university for engineering who has a strong preference for older men, but I don't want to meet them online or anywhere where It could be more risky.

Instead, I wanna go out and socialize and meet older men who are single and actually talk to them, but I have no idea where they hang out. Or, they're usually with their wife.

So, where are some places I can go in the rgv where the older men are more likely to be kind and not taken? Maybe this is too broad of a question... But the guys at the university just don't interest me and I don't see many older men. By older I mean in their 40s..I have good intentions and I just want some interesting conversation.

In need of a barber’

As the title says, I need a barber. I don’t need a hot towel shave. I don’t do designs. I won’t pay $40 for something I need done every week, two at the most. So I’m looking for a fade and haircut combo for under 30. In McAllen near mission but I’ll drive a little ways for it. Thanks!
