Tried so many tricks but they don’t stay on

Hello 👋 retail brand: none

I’ve been doing my own press on nails for about 4 years now. I’ve tried so many different glues and nail tabs but still have a major issue of nails coming off after just a few days.

I have tried so many tips and tricks for prepping, various nail brands, and different glues, but still the nails come off.

Prep wise I trim my nails, push back the cuticle, buff the nail so it has a rough surface to grip, wipe the natural nail with acetone to dehydrate it, brush fake nail inside with acetone to etch it up as well. I size the nails, apply the glue and press it into the cuticle. I’ve done different amounts of pressure when holding the nail on to dry, more or less glue, glue on both fake and real nail or just on one of them, alcohol instead of acetone to dehydrate, etc.

I do my nails before bed so they don’t get wet for at least 12 hours. I’m at my wits end. I even tried curve life glue because so many in here said it was extremely strong and they had tons of trouble getting it off to where they needed a special remover. A nail fell off after one day with it and I was able to pop the others off right after then just pick the remaining glue off my nails that day.

Any additional recommendations or tips are welcome. I may just have to accept the press on nail life isn’t for me.

Rare Bad Fit with Glamnetic

Super disappointed these didn’t fit well especially since I paid full price. You can see gaps between nail and press on. I know water is getting trapped so I’m planning on removing this afternoon. It was different packaging than my normal so hopefully this isn’t going to happen again if I don’t choose this type of glamnetic packaging. I also tried the sticky tab and glue combination for the first time so I’m not sure if these are coming off easily. Nails are so cute otherwise!

2nd attempt after hand surgery

Retail Brand: LA Colors

Design Name: Blue Isles

I had ligament repair in my dominant hand exactly two weeks ago and tried nails on Sunday with very poor prep. They almost all popped off the next day. So today on a stormy day I took my time and have tried again. They still don’t look the best but I am hoping they make it. 🤞

How long does it take you to apply press on nails?

Retail Brand: None

It takes me a good hour 😳

I do the full on prep though.

Size up the press ons and line them up, push down on my cuticles and clean them up, buff my nails and dehydrate them. And then the actual application begins. After I'm done I use cuticle oil and try to remove any dried up glue and that's pretty much it.

But yeah I always look at the clock right when I'm about to start and when I'm done a whole hour has passed. I'm gonna be honest sometimes I dread doing them, but the results are so worth it. Kinda like an everything shower if you know what I mean 😂

There are 2 TOTALLY DIFF types of Olive & June nails!

Retail brand: Olive & June

TLDR: Rectangular Box: “Super stick Mani” w tabs and no glue. Flatter, wider, softer (comfy, kind of like Impress) Edited to add: Also not as varied in design and some say they’re “plastic-y”

Round container: “Instant Mani” w glue, no tabs. Very side to side curvy, hard (will hurt if you’re not super curved), can’t be flattened easily w heat like Curvlife and Chilltips.

I had to do a post on this bc I see from a sub search that I’m not the only one who had NO IDEA that these two Olive and June set types have COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NAILS! The round ones come only with glue and are very stiff and very curved, side to side. Which is fine if your natural nail beds are curved. But for me and others, OUUUCH! But if your nail beds are more flat, the O&J sets you want to look at are the no glue Superstick Mani sets in the rectangular boxes that come with tabs! They are a LOT straighter, flexible but not bendy, and they have several wider size choices in a set, less in the midrange (unfortunately. I too wish sets would come with multiple 3s and 4s). Hope this helps!

LMK in the comments what other brands are good for nail beds that don’t curve very much or are easy to adjust and flatten with heat!!!

Has anyone tried these?

I was browsing at Ulta today and I saw these they seem like a good price and they give 42 nails, which is more than other companies do. Has anyone tried these?

almost 2 weeks with btartbox tabs only! (before and after)

First time using btartbox x tips with a builder coat on top then top coat! I used the sticky tabs only.

I cannot believe it lasted so long and thru a deep fridge cleaning too. You can see in the aftter pic they started to lift near the cuticle.

I only ended up having to replace one sticky tab for my index finger (it started wiggling like a loose tooth and was bothering me)

One of these is OPI. The other is from Cotton On.

discovered after I picked both of them up, of course, but it turns out that Rubi nails in "Moonstone Lilac" are a dead ringer for OPI Xpress/ons in "Space Jamz." Which is which? :)

the answer: !1st pic and bottom full set on pic 3 is Rubi, pic 2 and top full set in pic 3 is OPI. Interestingly, the Rubi nails are noticeably thicker and slightly longer, too. And if you're wondering about the others in pic 3, the topmost set is Olive & June, sheer lavender shimmer (it is definitely more blue than lavender imo) and the bottommost set is also from Rubi but I can't find it on their website anymore.!

Retail Brand: OPI Xpress/ons (Space Jamz, A$25 at Sephora) and Rubi (Moonstone Lilac, A$14.99 at Cotton On)

New Set

Retail Brand: Glamnetic, “Mermaid Tail”

I love the look of Glamnetic nails, but I still haven’t quite nailed (haha) down applying them. Something about them doesn’t make applying them as easy as my other go to brand (Impress).

I do think this set is very pretty 🥰

Wide nail press ons

So far, after a decent amount of searching. CurvLife seems to be the only brand that has nails larger than the 15mm. Has anyone found any others or knows someone who makes press ons in bigger sizes?

Glamnetics quick press mani!

Has anyone tried this new quick press nails? I got a few packs a few weeks ago and put on a pair to wear on my honeymoon! Love them so far!

First timer..

I got retail brand : impress for the first time and there is no numbered nails and the sizing is all over the place for me. Is there a beginner friendly press on nails I can try first where I could try with a chart against my nails and see what works instead of manual roulette.
