Am I doing this wrong?

I’ve had her for several years now and just thought this growth style was normal. Until I randomly came across this subreddit and started seeing everyone staking theirs and having them grow more straight up like a tree, and seeing all the posts about chopping.

So, am I doing it wrong? Should I keep letting her grow as she pleases or do I stake and/or chop?

More than one?

I have this Pilea since 6 years. Is there more than one pilea in this pot? Should I give her a bigger pot/seperate them or are all of the stems the same plant? Thanks in advance!

New pilea dad

Hey yall, wanted this little lily pad looking plant for a while. I’ve had her for two weeks, repotted into a less dense mix and she’s grown a bunch of new roots. But I’m noticing a couple of her leaves are curling in. Could that be too much or too little light? I haven’t watered her in over a week so could that also be it? Also does she look okay in general? 😅 thanks yall!

Should I chop & prop?

I’ve had this pilea for a year-ish and propagated it from a cutting from a friend. It’s always been so leggy and has some cupping in the leaves (but not consistently - some leaves curl in, some leaves curl out). The bottom leaves fall off after a while and it just keeps growing taller.

I have been unsure if I’m over- or under-watering it. It gets bright indirect sunlight - about 3 feet from a large window. The pot is painted terracotta and has drainage, and it’s in soil that’s meant for succulents. I haven’t fertilized it at all, but am open to it.

If I chop it, how low to the soil should I chop? How can I make it bushier/fuller? Is there anything else I am doing wrong?

Thinking of doing a chop and prop!

This guy was originally the bottom half of a previous chop. It’s gotten kinda leggy and recently sunburned, so we’ve dropped a few leaves. I’m thinking of chopping and starting the bottom over.

If I were to cut just under where all of the branches start, would the base of all of the branches start to root if I put it in water? Or would I need to cut the branches off individually for the best root growth?

Thanks in advance for any help!

She lost about 50% of her growth, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was even more. First two photos were taken last spring - thriving. Photo 3 is about 4 months after transplant shock, during rapid leaf drop. The final 4 photos were taken today. It’s devastating BUT I still think she looks great - lots of new growth, no more rapid leaf loss, stabilized. I think we’ll get back to her original size and health before too long!!

Should I repot this?

Do I need to repot this into a bigger pot? Also, do I put the pups in different pots? She’s thriving but I want her to stay happy!!!

My first and only pilea (which I need to up pot as there's 4 babies in the pot)! I've had it for just over a year and I never expected to see it flower given that it's currently so cramped 😅

This is Mother Monster. She's only been in this pot for four months and already growing out of it. I am absolutely amazed. And a bit frightened. Where will this end?!

Before anyone asks: I have absolutely zero special advice. I don't have the green thumb, my apartment does. It's every indoor plant's wet dream, it seems. I've had Mother Monster for seven years, got her as a little prop with three leaves from a coworker. She's always been doing well but this apartment... I mean, look what it does! There's only two ways I'm ever leaving here, and that is against my will and fighting, or feet first and cold.

Here's the data for anyone interested:

Northern Germany, west facing window on the 3rd floor, water when first 3cm are dry (every three days atp, help!), rarely take out pups, fertilise with every second to third watering with a laughingly cheap fertiliser I got for 1,50€ at Action. That's really all. The medium is vegetable soil and I've never changed it completely, only ever top-dressed and repotted the entire root ball with all the old medium and just filled up the gaps. I actually recommend vegetable soil, I use it for almost all my plants except those with very niche needs like cacti. It has lots of nutrients, it drains really well while holding a good amount of water due to all the large chunks of wood and fibers, and it never gets soggy or solid. If anyone is close and wants a pup, dm me ✌️

My Pilea (Money Plant) Hates Me

I’ve had this Pilea for almost 5 years and the last 2 years it’s started to be very unhappy.
It sits in bright indirect light and I water when soil is dry.
I replaced the soil a year ago in hopes that would help but it didn’t.

Any thoughts on how I could make it happier and to get the leaves to stop curling?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Got this lil guy last month I have no idea what I’m doing wrong.. it started out healthy then started to get burnt edges so I moved it to a slightly shadier spot, but the issue seems to persist. the new leaves also seem to unfurl way slower now. The new baby leaf emerging seems to have a black burnt mark too. I don’t follow strict watering schedule, only bottom watering when the pot feels light.

last pic is where it is currently situated.

Why are the leaves kind of curled? I’m not sure if it needs to be repotted or what I may be doing wrong. Current pic and the day I got her (2022)

Hi there! Long time pilea owner here. I’ve had many successful props from the mother plant (check my post history) but this one has been slow growing with the oldest leaves turning a bleached shade of yellow I haven’t seen before. She lives in a window and under a grow light. Is it maybe light overkill? dos she need fertilizer? A different pot? I let it dry out almost entirely between watering, but she was watered right before the photo was taken. Help!

Hello! This is a grown pup gifted to my father in law. They said they overwatered it at first but corrected that. Should it be likely to recover soon?

I failed to keep the mother plant alive so I figured I would defer to this subreddit's expertise and report back. Thanks!

Help!!! baby pilea!

I was picking up the pot to water my pilea when this little shoot off popped out of the pot. I got out a tiny pot and put him in there for a week, but he keeps falling over, despite keeping the soil, very moist to encourage root growth. I also made him a little humidity area. I’m wondering if he needs to water propagate first? What do I do?!

I've had this cutting in water for about a month. It's in bottled water. It's rooting but now the leaves at the bottom are turning almost yellow. Any idea what this might be?
