For those techs not in retail, outpatient, or inpatient, what are you doing?

I want to get out of retail so bad. Its killing my mental health especially being at a store where its so toxic. I have so many years experience in pharmacy that I hate to hust change career paths but maybe something not retail related? I just dunno what

patient notes

previous pharmacy tech. sometimes in a patient's notes i'd see "pita", how often do other pharmacist/techs see this? if you've done it before, please spill why you did it, i'm quite curious as to what a patient needs to do in order for them to get labeled "pita" 🤣

Do you ever feel ready for the test?

Scheduled my test rather impulsively after studying for months almost daily for 12 days after that current day. I have 10 days left. I'm taking it regardless but do you ever truly feel ready? I want to take it with confidence and right now I'm a ball of nerves. All my practice tests I get a minimum of 74-76 and mostly scores of 80's on 20,30 & 40 question all category practice tests by the official ptcb site. Idk I just have anxiety I guess and don't know anyone personally who did this test all my friends are pharmacists or one tech who doesn't plan to ever go for her CPhT

Is becoming a pharmacy tech that confusings?

Hello!
I am a 17-year-old girl looking for a job as a pharmacy technician. I applied to Walgreens, but they didn’t “move forward” with my application. However, if anyone worked as a pharmacy technician in high school, could you please guide me? I’m a bit lost but still really interested in this job.

Thank you in advance!

Need Help on the EXCPT!

Hey guys. I bought the practice exams from the NHA website and I’ve recently scored an 85% on the latest one, although that is me looking up some math equations and looking up some of the medication questions. I am well aware that it isn’t allowed in the EXCPT official exam, and I plan to study those regions for sure, but for anyone who took the EXCPT, how accurate were the practice exams to the actual test? Was it easier or harder?

Pharmacy tech. course from Bunker Hill Community College Boston

Worked in Boston for last 15 years in Bioinformatics and in academic institutions. Laid-off eight months ago and still couldn't get any job. Thinking of enrolling in a Pharmacy Technician course. Will taking a course from Bunker Hill Community College with internship at a local Pharmacy be helpful?

happy monday yall

a patient encounter i just had,

patient: i paid cash for my medicine so i don’t have a prescription

me: you have a prescription, but you paid cash because your insurance won’t cover it without a prior authorization

patient: well how much would it be if my insurance paid for it

me: 👁️👄👁️ , you need a prior authorization (goes through speech on what it is)

patient: i saw him do that he did it right in front of me

this where i had enough and got my pharmacist involved which then the patient said, “no she’s saying i don’t have a prescription for it but i picked it up”

my GABBERS are FLASTED ILL TELL YOU WHAT

is learning how to do prior authorizations hard?

Hi all, I’m a newish retail pharmacy technician that recently acquired a state license. i’ve been seeing job postings for CVS for a work at home position doing prior authorizations. so far in retail i’ve mostly been doing release to patient or product dispensing - very little time in the adjudications queue as we have a dedicated person who insists on doing PA’s most of his shift. I was wondering would it be worth applying to this position? I’m a fast and dedicated learner but moreso worried that they’d have to take time to teach me as there’s not a lot of time for that in this industry. any insight on those who are in a similar position would be greatly appreciated!

Can Gabapentin be compounded into custom dosed capsules in a community/retail pharmacy

Basically just the title. Either an answer or if you know where I could find that information, I’d really appreciate it. I have learned the general rules around both sterile and non sterile compounding but I am curious about it happening in practice.

If you have experience outside of retail with this please feel free to chime in, just please add what setting you work in

Top 200

I am new to this all and studying for the PTCB. I am working through memorizing the top 200 and am curious. How long did it take you to memorize them all?

What's the chance I can get my first Pharma Tech (Trainee) job somewhere like a compounding pharmacy or sterile?

I heard that it's possible to get a job at a compounding pharmacy, or in sterile prep, for a much more 'quiet' version of pharmacy tech.

Is there a chance of getting one of these jobs as a trainee, or is it basically impossible without your cert first?

I do very well with details, rules, repetitive tasks, and following orders. I do NOT thrive whatsoever in any role where I have to deal with rude, demanding, or impatient 'customers,' and I do NOT do well in physically demanding jobs, hence why I figured my only real options for a 'stable' and 'safe' job were maybe to try medical data entry, or pharmacy tech (medical/pharma/hospital being 'safe' and 'stable' because they are in constant demand).

I'm very much hoping to avoid being the 'cashier' type person (customer-facing/customer interactions) for my well being (I have autism, not self diagnosed, professionally diagnosed, and I fear for my future if I can't get a job where I can work in 'peace' and stability - all my previous jobs I never held down for more than 2-3 months because of the customer interactions & physical demands, I want something relatively quiet and working with coworkers)

Tech Exam

Hi everyone! I’m planning to take the Pharmacy Tech exam and I am wondering if where can I get some free materials for it? I’m currently working as a pharmacy assistant in a retail drugstore in Canada but will soon relocate in the US since my fiance is a US Citizen.

Thank you!

Wag extending hours but no staff?

I currently work at cvs and left wag in 2021. The store across from me is now 9-9 m-f and 9-6 sat 10-6 sun, but has been closing...A LOT.

They are recruiting the old RXM back from cvs and going to move the current RXM to another location when he returns from leave.

Problem is, I believe the current RXM is going to leave if they move him and they are already struggling to stay open. They have closed early at least 5 days out of the last 3 weeks, and completely closed 4 days that I know of.

When I worked there, it took 2 FT pharmacists plus 2 floater shifts a week to keep open those hours, I'm genuinely confused how they are going to be able to maintain the extended hours in this area when they can't keep the stores open as it is? Out of the 4 wags actually in town, only 1 has 2 pharmacists coded to the site, the rest are just 1 Rph and random floaters. If wag closes early or completely, it makes my day so difficult, so what is the thought process here??

I miss working there but also genuinely don't understand what's happening at the company anymore or why people are staying.

Pharmacy Technicians and EPIC

My director informed us that our hospital is switching to EPIC in 2 years, and all I heard were good news from people who used them before.

How is it? Is it hard to navigate? How's the nurse and pharmacy interaction when using it?

Do i need to do a major readjustment or prepare myself to these upcoming change?
