Cleaning the filter

Since I can’t have snacks in the tank to clean up, I’m finding that my tank is very dirty. There are constantly particles floating around and settling on the plants.

Do you find cleaning your filter more often is necessary? I have sponge, and floss and purigen in my filter.

I also have khulis, neos and just added amanos to help clean up as well.

Hiding spots for baby peas?

I saw a baby in my tank for about a second today before one of my chonks ate it (I had just fed them!).

It was an intense rollercoaster of emotions where I first screamed BABYYY! And then NOOOOO! quickly after. The baby was so damn cute.

I have a 65 gallon species only tank with 10 peas that I got 6 months ago. There is a lot of Java moss on the driftwood and for the past couple of months they’ve added a flirty new behavior, so I’m not too surprised that something came of it.

Has anyone had babies successfully grow up in the main tank without having to separate them? What do you think would be the best hiding places that I can add for them? Maybe some lower level plants? Any suggestions would be great. I would love for the babies to have a chance.

Is Cindy actually a pea puffer?

I have 4 little puffers at the moment and they are thriving but one stands out as weird.

Cindy has loads of pinprick spots covering her and she always looks fat, to the point of bulging even when the others look slimmer. I've even withheld food several times for a few days and she's always large.

She is also more curious, more dominant and while the all look at me around feeding time, she seems to have a hobby of looking at me. She can be a little bossy sometimes but not particularly violent towards her pea pals.

All of this has me wondering if she's actually a pea, or just something very similar.

Suitable for Pea Puffers and tank mates?

I made a rough render of the kind of tank setup I’m thinking about. It’s not exactly what the finished tank will look like, just more of an idea for the layout.

The tank will be for pea puffers and possibly a few tank mates. I’m still planning on adding a cave and 3 pieces of driftwood too.

Do you think a setup like this could work for pea puffers and their tank mates? I’m mainly wondering if there will be enough plants and line-of-sight breaks to help with aggression while still leaving enough open swimming space.

Would the cave and driftwood make it suitable, or should I add even more cover/plants?

Waddledee is a bully >:(

Waddledee is a butthole and won’t leave Waddledoo alone. I recently got four more puffers to complete my shoal of 6, but they’re too small to have swimming around with my big boy and girl.

Waddledee is a bully and bites Waddledoo because he’s timid and shy and likes to keep to himself.

I’m convinced all of my puffers are of a different genus from Wadledoo and that’s why he’s bullied, he looks so different and does not have wrinkles around his eyes?

Right now Waddledee is in her own tank to give my boy some time to heal and rest, but I’m moving tomorrow and she will NEED to go back in the tank with my boy.

First pic is Waddledee, second is Waddledoo, last picture is my four babies who are still reallyyyyyy small!

Any advice is welcome, I’m learning as I go.

Right size for escape and release?

The five month old fry are now 1/3 the size of the adult puffers. I plan to rescape the tank to break up territories and release the babies when they reach 1/2 the size. For those who have tried this how did it go and what helped?

Slightly off topic, what online sites are reputable for ordering daphnia starter cultures?

Pea puffer and Sparkling Gourami

Does anyone have a Sparkling gourami and how are they with puffers?

I want to get Pea puffers but I’m a bit worried since they occupy the same space and are quite similar in behavior

Tankmates

I am starting a 36 gallon pea tank. I would like to add a few other things to the tank, and was going to see if anyone had any recommendations on what would work with them. I'm perfectly ok with the tank being a species only tank if needed and would establish the other fish first if I went that route. I plan on 10 to 12 peas in this tabk. Thanks in advance

Something about them always cracks me tf up

Every time I observe them, I always end up smiling and laughing I don’t know why 😂

Maybe it’s the eyes or their fat bellies

Lost my pea puffer today, jumped out of water :(

I’ve had three puffers for a year, and today, out of nowhere, one of them jumped out of the tank. At first, I thought he was just hiding like he usually does, but after two days of not seeing him, I finally checked the tank and the area around it—and I found him completely dried out.

None of my pea puffers have ever shown any jumping behavior before, but it still happened. I feel terrible and guilty. I really wish I had put a lid on the tank earlier.

I have always been an animal rescuer and helping strays, but when accidents like this happen in my own home, it makes me feel incredibly guilty.

Is this a fairly rare occurrence, or does it happen often? Has anyone else gone through something like this? Please share your experience.
