Needing help with eyebrows

Hi everyone!

This is something I’ve never done before so I’m feeling a little anxious.

I’ve been on a bit of a makeup journey recently and trying to perfect my everyday look but I’m still not happy with my eyebrows - I’ve attached a B&A (without/with makeup) so you have an idea of what I’m working with.

Products used (eyebrows):

- Anastasia Beverley Hills micro stroke brow pen in medium brown

- elf ultra precise brow pencil in cool brown

- got2b glue for brows

My main issues are the asymmetry, “angry” shape and how blocky they look. They are naturally very sparse so I have to do a lot of drawing on unfortunately. Any advice is really appreciated 💕

J-Beauty Recs!

I’m going to visit Japan soon and am hoping to find some makeup there, esp as I have grey, pink, or cool undertones . I currently use Missha bb creme #13 for reference, but in general ..

Wondering what your fav J or even K-Beauty recs would be? 😁

Is my foundation too dark?

Hi all, this is the new formula of the MAC Studio Fix Pressed Powder in NC5. It is the lightest shade, I think. In some lighting it looks like a decent match, but in certain photos it looks a tad too dark or yellow or both. I think I managed to capture it slightly in this photo. Is it indeed too dark compared to my neck or is it just me? Thanks!

Pale Foundation Swatches (on the hunt for the right shade)

• Swatches are blended out and sat for 5 minutes before photos.

• First photo is natural lighting, second is direct lighting, third is artificial lighting (kitchen).

• Fourth and fifth photos are Haus Labs 15, 30 and 40 swatched on my bare face.

For years, I thought Oslo was the right shade for me. My face is incredibly pink because I flush so easily and for Oslo, that was perfect, but my face was always a distinctly different shade than my neck 🙃 Then I realized I should be matching to my neck, not my face, and Oslo was entirely too pink. I’ve been out here looking like a clown for the last few years lol

So far I think Haus Labs 015 is my best match, RDF is a touch too pale I think. I plan on buying a few more brands to try, though.

My skin type is very, very dry (as in I use moisturizer, serum AND aquaphor at night 😅) and sensitive. I prefer dewy foundations so I loved the NARS formula, just couldn’t find the right shade with them. The Haus Labs formula isn’t as dewy imo, but it’s still pretty nice. The Rituel de Fille formula was way too drying for me and even if MISSHA would have worked for me, it smelled like a citronella candle was right under my nose when I swatched it. Lol

The hunt for other matches continues!

Concealer recommendations to hide veins/this?

For reference: Very Dry Sensitive & Acne-Prone Skin

I haven’t worn makeup in years. Tomorrow is the last day of the Sephora but, unfortunately, it seems like all the options I chose pulled too yellow or dark on me?

I am very pale (added pictures of my skin) in the sense that you can see all my veins, like the first picture. It’s very bad under my eyes. People constantly comment on it. I’d love some opinions for foundations and concealers because I don’t think I was accurately shade-matched at Sephora :p

Would love some tips and advice! 🌷🩷 It’s become unbearable with all the unnecessary comments from people :/

Recs from a 2-Year Glow-Up

Hi everyone! I’ve been a long-time lurker here, and I wanted to share a quick thank you and a review of the products this sub helped me find. The recommendations here finally helped me nail a routine that doesn't look like a mask or fight with my undertones.

Since the Sephora Sale ends tomorrow, I figured I’d share my staples in case anyone is doing a final cart review!

The Standouts:

  1. KOSAS - Dreambeam Comfy Smooth Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 (Radiant Finish)

One of the few tinted mineral sunscreens with the right undertone and zero flashback.

  1. Luminous Silk Natural Glow Blurring Foundation with 24-Hour Wear Iuse 3.75 in the winter and 4.75 in the summer. The finish is unmatched.

  2. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer I use Affogato for highlighting and Creme Brulee for spot concealing.

  3. Westman Atelier Face Trace Cream Contour Stick (Biscuit) The ultimate cool-toned contour that doesn't look muddy on pale skin.

  4. NARS Afterglow Liquid Blush in Behave, Orgasm and Aragon

  5. MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Paint Pot 24HR Blendable Eye Primer + Cream Eye Shadow (Painterly)

My eyelids have visible blue veins, and this cancels them out to create a clean base for eyeshadow.

  1. NATASHA DENONA I Need a Nude Eyeshadow Palette

I reach for this constantly; it’s the most versatile "nude" palette for fair skin.

  1. MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Long-Lasting Lip Liner (808 Boundless Berry)

Lipsticks:

  1. NARS Powermatte High-Intensity Long-Lasting Lip Pencil: American Woman
  2. Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Satin Shine Lipstick: Pillow Talk Fair
  3. MAC Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick: Beam There Done That & See Sheer
  4. Merit Signature Lipstick: Classic

Non Sephora Items:

NYX Professional Makeup Suede Matte Lip Liner Velvet Soft Vegan Lip Pencil in Cannes and Nude Pink. Budget-friendly and great.

I actually just wrote a much longer deep dive into my multi-year glow-up journey on my Substack with pictures. In it I shout out this subreddit :)

Note to mods: Please remove if not allowed! I just wanted to share the love back with the community that helped me. All the relevant product info and reviews are in the free/public section of the post for anyone interested**.**

Happy shopping!

New hair, different lighting, swip for pics.

I wanted to thank everyone for all their wonderful feedback as a 35-year-old woman who has been struggling with her make up routine and undertone.

I made the jump and I changed my hair and I’m absolutely obsessed with it. I think it looks amazing and I want to thank everybody who suggested that my previous hair was too warm and it was fighting with my makeup.

Picture 1 is my old makeup routine, picture 2 is the current makeup routine, but I still hadn’t changed my hair and I had awful lighting. Pictures 3,4 5 and 6 are the same makeup routine my new hair, color and better lighting. I’ve been told I am cool toned but some people have suggested I’m neutral and I’ve had a handful say I am pale olive.. what are thinking?

With my new hair and better lighting, do we still feel like my foundation is too warm? I also tried mixing my foundation with a little bit of moisturizer so it’s not as full cover.

I’m also open to feedback on skin tint, sheer foundations and BB creams. I know that might be a better option for me.

Is concealer meant to be lighter or the same shade as your foundation?

I’m getting into the makeup game and going shopping for a concealer tomorrow. I have no idea how to pick my shade? What do people usually do? :)

True cool/rosy foundation

Hello!

I'm on my journey to find a perfect foundation match.

My problem is, I'm VERY cool toned, like you can see purple veins under my eyes. Not the tiniest bit of yellow or orange.

So far I've tried:

Mac studio fix NW5 (best pale-ness match but too peachy-yellow)

Mac studio fix NW10 (waaaay too dark and yellow)

Kvd good apple serum 002 (too light and too neutral)

Huda beauty 100B (also a tiny bit too light and yellow)

Missha 13 (looks straight up orange on me)

Tirtir 10C (best match personally, but the formula breaks me out :( )

Fenty beauty 110 (pretty good match but STILL a little too yellow)

I did swatch nars oslo at one point at the store but it seemed a little dark?

Please help if you can, I'd greatly appreciate it. 🙏

Added some photos in natural lighting to help visualise it. Last photo is what I get by mixing a few foundations to get a good shade match (which I'm tired of).

Long-lasting acne-safe pale foundations? [Question]

Hi!

I feel like the hunt for a good foundation/tint will NEVER end! I have acne-prone, clog-prone, very fair and muted skin that gets oily in the T-zone and chin. I work between 8-16 hour days and find that I cannot find a good base product. I'm looking for my holy grail!

I love the Kylie skin tint in 1N but unfortunately it breaks me out. I also love the Missha BB cream in 13 but find that I look greasy and the makeup breaks up by midday. For reference, Nars Chantilly is a good match for me but Oslo is too pink and Mont Blanc is too yellow.

I try not to use anything too dewy and glowy due to my combo skin and I'm looking for medium coverage, satin/matte finishes, with ingredients that are safe. I avoid squalane and niacinamide as the former gives me closed comedones and the latter gives me painful inflamed acne.

Does such a product exist!

Neutral color cream/liquid bronzer

I’m just looking for one bronzer that won’t pull super orange. I have a neutral leaning warm undertone and everything pulls so warm and dark on my very light skin (I’m a soft autumn if it helps)

I’ve tried contour colors but they end up straight up pulling grey and muddy

I don’t mind the price point if it comes to finally finding something that works although I would prefer something from the drugstore

Cool tone skin tints that don't oxidize?

I've tried bare minerals, saie, merit, etc., and they're either too dark or oxidize terribly. Any recs are MUCH appreciated :)

I'm FINALLY so happy with my foundation matches, here they are!

After MONTHS of swatching, buying, trying, burning money, I am FINALLY so happy with the foundations I have managed to match myself to, that I think it would be worthy to be shared here, since I am SO PALE beyond anyone's wildly imagination.

List of foundations (from left to right)

  1. Maybelline Superstay LumiMatte - 090
  2. L'Oréal True match - 0.5D/W
  3. Sephora Reveal the Real skin tint - 100N
  4. L'Oréal Infallible 32h fresh wear - 010 Neutral
  5. Makeup Atelier HD airbrush foundation - AIR1Y Vanilla

Are they perfect matches? Maybe not, but ya know, I'll take them! They blend down the neck pretty well, and end up being the best matches I've been able to collect along the last couple of months! All pretty cheap as well!

Any feedback or tips is always appreciated! Maybe tips on my undertone based on the red and blue swatches? And if I can be of help, let me know!

Methodology was as follows:

  • Swatched onto neck, freshly shaved
  • Swatches are TO THE RIGHT of each brown line on my neck
  • Thin/realistic amount of product per swatch, blending it with my finger within the swatch to make it as realistic as possible to the usual application scenario
  • Waited 30 minutes for any oxidation to occur
  • Photos taken in daylight, end of day, sunny, first set of 3 on direct sunlight, and the next 3 indirect
  • Photos taken with the least processing on my iPhone I could get
  • White balance correction with the use of a white paper in frame and photoshop, saturation toned down on second set of photos

Me with DIY cool toned hair and less makeup versus me with brassy hair and more makeup

I know it’s not much of a difference but I did my hair myself and I want to know if this looks better for my pale skin

Bare Minerals Highlighting Blush - Rose Glow vs. Pink Glow?

Hi everyone,

A while back I bought the Opal Glow shade of Bare Minerals Highlighting Blush and I love the texture and how it sits on the skin, so I'd like to try another shade from the same line. I've narrowed it down to Rose Glow and Pink Glow but can't decide.

Which one is the lighter and cooler pink? In photos Rose Glow looks like it fits that description, but I've seen some reviews calling it orange/peachy, so now I'm not sure. Any swatch photos would be amazing, especially on cool-fair skin.

Thanks in advance!

Help - what is my undertone?

Hi everyone,

I am not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask this question, but can you guys help me identify what my neck’s undertone is? I’m still struggling to find the right shade for me.

I have tried to take pictures of my neck with an indirect sunlight lighting (I think?)

Thanks so much!
