Highland differences?

Hi all, I’m brand new to smoking, and I recently bought the Highland (the one with the black handles). I’ve been watching a lot of reviews and it looks like the other model has been out for longer.

For those of you with either of these two models, how has your experience been? Are there noticeable improvements or downgrades between the two? Thanks

My Joe is only 3 years old and its already showing a lot of wear and heat damage, despite being on a porch and covered in the winter. When I first got it, all the smoke came out of the grill area, not the stack. But now smoke comes out of everywhere there's a seam... I'm debating welding it back up, it was just screws originally, but I'm not certain if its worth the effort.

Suggestions?

I'm based in the UK and have just taken the plunge into offset smoking (have played around with indirect smoking etc on my cheapo grill). I've done a fair bit of research on mods etc and wanted some advice on what to prioritise.

I'm tempted to barely mod at all (just gasket) and embrace the learning curve (especially given smokers aren't cheap over here and I've already spent quite a bit on the Highland). However, if there are any must have mod's to get me started that are relatively inexpensive I'm all ears. I've already ordered a basket for the firebox and I will be getting some gasket to seal the chamber and firebox once I know where the leaks are. Should I bother with baffle plates, stack lowering kits and extenders etc?

Also any tips for burn-in/seasoning before I fire her up? Looking forward to any tips and advice on what is my first ever reddit post haha :)
