Saying goodbye to my Z80 Ultra :(

I really really wanted to love it. On paper, everything is amazing: good cameras, latest and greatest possible chip, the looks, huge battery, no hole punch camera... you name it, it really seemed like an ultra phone for half the price.

But honestly its not really for me and ill give you the reasons so you can decide for yourself if youre thinking about buying one:

  1. Software updates are rare if not non-existing. This is brand new phone, there were few small updates from the start (i bought it shortly after released) and now nothing for months. You wil also never know when, and if, you will get new android versions which is a big bummer.

  2. No camera cut-out is nice but you will actually still see it anyway. Lower brightness, certain greyish colors and its right back there you can clearly see it

  3. Network problems: I had big drops in 5G signal around my home while 3 different phones from different brands have no problem whatsover. I also had weird WIFI disconnects at my house every now and then.

  4. Foggy main camera: after going from hot to cold places and vice versa, main camera lens got foggy. it does disapear after a while but it was super annoying

5.  Camera itself was mid for me. Im sure you can get good results if you fiddle with it but for me, just regular point and shoot pics are... just ok. Main lens is also zoomed in compared to other phones which took getting used to

6.  The OS itself is buggy, there is a lot of fiddling to be done just so it does not kill some apps, many unpolished things and generally underwhelming. Combine it with no updates and locked bootloader (no custom roms) and you have a bad situation

7.  Hardware buttons are plastic, rattling around and dont really inspire confidence whatsover

8.  No proper HDR support - this was huge bummer for me. On paper it has HDR, but in most apps like Netflix and Disney plus, where it actually matters, it does not show HDR as an option. I wrote Nubia about it, and even tho they fixed Widevine from L3 to L1, HDR is still broken

Now i know, i could have and should have probably researched more about the phone and Nubia in general, but i was hyped to get it and i did. This could be great phone for someone-probably gamers, and folks who seek raw chip power. But because of reasons i just told you, its not a daily driver for me whatsoever. I live in EU and ill try to sell until i still can get some decent price for it as its still in mint condition, but im not buying this series of phones or Nubia ever again im afraid.

Too bad, so much potential! Cheers

Bug Report: System UI Scaling and Overlay Issues - nubia Z80 Ultra

Hi everyone,

I've recently updated my nubia Z80 Ultra to the latest firmware (MyOS 16.0.12MR2_NX741J_EEA), but I'm encountering some frustrating UI rendering bugs. I've tried clearing the app cache and restarting the device, but the issues persist.

  1. Messenger Reply Bug:

Whenever I use the "Reply" feature (swipe to reply) in Facebook Messenger, the text input bar completely disappears or fails to pop up. This happens in both the main app and Chat Bubbles mode. I literally cannot type anything until I cancel the reply.

  1. Spotify Widget Corruption:

The home screen widget for Spotify is completely broken. The layout is overlapping, and the scaling is off (as seen in the attached screenshots). It seems like the system is having trouble with DPI scaling for certain elements.

Device Details:

Model: nubia Z80 Ultra

Build Number: MyOS16.0.13_NX741J_EEA

Region: EEA (Global)

Is anyone else experiencing these scaling or overlay bugs on the new update? If you have a fix or workaround, please let me know. I've already submitted this via the internal feedback tool, but wanted to check with the community as well.

Why are there like no cases for this phone? I can see maybe 10-15 cases total on AliExpress, and most are nearly the same... Has anyone seen a slightly more rugged case? Or something that feels as nice in the hand as a spigen or poetic? Originally I was going to go with an aluminum frame case, but I've read that it kills reception...

ZBoard

Have a Nubia Z70S Ultra. Before the update to Android 16 this phone had Google Now. After the update it got replaced by the complete trainwreck also known as ZBoard. I've really tried to find some use for it but it is completely useless. I get news articles from obscure local newspapers from my country. Like I'm interested in a car accident in a region I've never visited in my life. Has anyone managed to find a way to make it show you relevant articles based on your interests? If I want to receive articles about tech for example. How do you make it understand you'd like those types of articles and not that a moose got hot by a car somewhere?

My phone is stuck on the November 5, 2024 security patch. It is now April 2026. The system incorrectly claims it is 'up to date'. I have been contacting ZTE support for several days, but they keep saying they are 'escalating' the issue with zero results.

The UI is broken with empty squares in the notification area. This is a security risk and a terrible user experience for a device sold as new. Is anyone else facing this in the Europe/Ukraine region?

I just went to a waterpark yesterday, kiddie pools and everything. I actually purchased a lanyard with a waterproof casing as an added layer of protection for the Z70 Ultra, knowing full well the phone's IP68 and IP69 rating.

While in the midst of entertaining my kids splashing about, a stranger pointed out to me that my 'waterproof casing' was half-filled with water. I quickly checked on my phone, and my Z70 Ultra was a black empty screen, it was doing a short and quick vibration, followed by a white flash, and it repeated over and over as though it was in an endless loop. I took it out of the casing, and immediately felt the heat of the phone's surface was unlike anything that I've ever experienced with the phone, even during the times when I put it through severe gaming sessions while multi-tasking with YouTube playing in the background and many apps running.

It took a very, very long time to exit its loop and cool down, and I figured the battery finally depleted. However when I tried to charge it, my Anker powerbank showed output was fluctuating between 0.1-0.2W, when a normal charge would be 64-65W. At that point I realised I had a very serious problem. Till now my phone is unable to charge and unable to be powered on.

Can someone advise me what's going on, and what steps I can take to rectify this? The phone is barely 11 months old and I've taken very good care of it. I take it to the toilet during showers and it survives splashes and the occasional rinse no problem. The water park water was typical pool water, and it was at the kids' playground area, meaning the water was about knee-deep. At most it went through the kids water slides with me, but then again, its also 'protected' by the waterproof casing. Some one please advise me what to do next please!

I have it for 2 weeks now but WiFi acts strange. Sometimes there is no WiFi icon in status bar, only mobile data but it is connected to WiFi. It is full WiFI 6 at home and same thing happens at work. No other phone has that issue.

?Is it a bug or there is some transfer acceleration option that I cant find in the menu? I tried to clear cache of system app but it changed nothing.
