Saying goodbye to my Z80 Ultra :(

I really really wanted to love it. On paper, everything is amazing: good cameras, latest and greatest possible chip, the looks, huge battery, no hole punch camera... you name it, it really seemed like an ultra phone for half the price.

But honestly its not really for me and ill give you the reasons so you can decide for yourself if youre thinking about buying one:

  1. Software updates are rare if not non-existing. This is brand new phone, there were few small updates from the start (i bought it shortly after released) and now nothing for months. You wil also never know when, and if, you will get new android versions which is a big bummer.

  2. No camera cut-out is nice but you will actually still see it anyway. Lower brightness, certain greyish colors and its right back there you can clearly see it

  3. Network problems: I had big drops in 5G signal around my home while 3 different phones from different brands have no problem whatsover. I also had weird WIFI disconnects at my house every now and then.

  4. Foggy main camera: after going from hot to cold places and vice versa, main camera lens got foggy. it does disapear after a while but it was super annoying

5.  Camera itself was mid for me. Im sure you can get good results if you fiddle with it but for me, just regular point and shoot pics are... just ok. Main lens is also zoomed in compared to other phones which took getting used to

6.  The OS itself is buggy, there is a lot of fiddling to be done just so it does not kill some apps, many unpolished things and generally underwhelming. Combine it with no updates and locked bootloader (no custom roms) and you have a bad situation

7.  Hardware buttons are plastic, rattling around and dont really inspire confidence whatsover

8.  No proper HDR support - this was huge bummer for me. On paper it has HDR, but in most apps like Netflix and Disney plus, where it actually matters, it does not show HDR as an option. I wrote Nubia about it, and even tho they fixed Widevine from L3 to L1, HDR is still broken

Now i know, i could have and should have probably researched more about the phone and Nubia in general, but i was hyped to get it and i did. This could be great phone for someone-probably gamers, and folks who seek raw chip power. But because of reasons i just told you, its not a daily driver for me whatsoever. I live in EU and ill try to sell until i still can get some decent price for it as its still in mint condition, but im not buying this series of phones or Nubia ever again im afraid.

Too bad, so much potential! Cheers
