After a year of hesitation, I finally bought the app after the V2 update. A few days in, I’ve already taken some great photos with it, but I still run into some strange results at times.
The main issue appears in gradient areas — especially transitions from light to shadow. Sometimes the image looks overly artificial, almost like an 8-bit picture, with very harsh edges between highlights and shadows. I’m not sure whether this comes from the app’s color processing or from me using the wrong settings.
I notice it mostly in portraits and low-light shots. In darker conditions, I also occasionally see heavy noise-reduction artifacts. Overall, the images can end up looking too saturated and unnatural.
Using softer, more faded presets seems to help somewhat, so it may simply come down to my lack of experience with the app.
That said, I wanted to ask whether this is expected behavior with the current processing pipeline, or if it sounds more like something that could be improved or fixed. If you have any advice on settings or workflow that could help avoid these results, I’d really appreciate it.
P.s. I am shooting with IPhone 16 Pro
I don’t remember installing knowing this app is monthly subscription because I’m against it. I only install apps like these if there’s a code to use it foerever or I know I’m buying it from the begging.
When did it changed to subscription? Was it like that from the beginning and it wasn’t clear?
Maybe I installed as free for life or with a code and now it doesn’t work?

Hey! It always feels a bit cringe to ask for reviews but it really helps the AppStore listing.
If you have 2 minutes to write a short review, or 10 seconds to just leave a rating that would be really appreciated.

Thank you!
Not the Takeshita Dori I remember when I used to live in the area back in the day!
I made a free independent guide to the Moodcamera preset universe:
emulations, custom presets, Quality, Tone, visual behavior, cheat sheets, common mistakes, and practical field choices.
It’s called:
Complete Moodcamera Field Guide
A small survival manual for people who want their iPhone photos to stop looking like they were approved by a committee.
The guide is free to download from my website.
No paywall. No forced newsletter. No weird marketing hostage situation.
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Moodcamera or its developers. Just an independent field guide from a photographer who has spent too much time thinking about what presets do to images.

If anyone finds inaccuracies, especially after app updates, I’ll be happy to correct them.
Most of these were taken using the "random" presets and slightly edited within the Apple photos app
