Love the app, but…

After a year of hesitation, I finally bought the app after the V2 update. A few days in, I’ve already taken some great photos with it, but I still run into some strange results at times.

The main issue appears in gradient areas — especially transitions from light to shadow. Sometimes the image looks overly artificial, almost like an 8-bit picture, with very harsh edges between highlights and shadows. I’m not sure whether this comes from the app’s color processing or from me using the wrong settings.

I notice it mostly in portraits and low-light shots. In darker conditions, I also occasionally see heavy noise-reduction artifacts. Overall, the images can end up looking too saturated and unnatural.

Using softer, more faded presets seems to help somewhat, so it may simply come down to my lack of experience with the app.

That said, I wanted to ask whether this is expected behavior with the current processing pipeline, or if it sounds more like something that could be improved or fixed. If you have any advice on settings or workflow that could help avoid these results, I’d really appreciate it.

P.s. I am shooting with IPhone 16 Pro
