I wonder if the Cuman-Kipchaks like Sultan Baibars learned the feigned retreat strategy from the Mongols in Crimea

Context: Timur was a very strange and cruel ruler who killed a bunch of civilians and called himself a muslim, but killed almost every denomination of muslim because they were in his mind non believers.

That’s not cool of you, cousin.

If the Mongol Empire had fully incorporated the Oghuz Turks into its structure, it is quite likely that the Turkish presence in Anatolia would still have continued, but the process of expansion into the Balkans might not have unfolded in the same way as it did under the Ottomans. The Oghuz Turkmens already lived with relatively loose social bonds, tending to follow their own beys rather than central khans, and they were sometimes prone to resisting different political authorities. Due to their semi-nomadic lifestyle, they were often settled in frontier regions, both to keep them under control and to use them as buffer forces against external threats.

Only Mongol Posts Allowed

From now on, this subreddit will only allow posts about the Mongols, the nation of Mongolia, the region of Mongolia, Proto-Mongols, etc. I have updated the rules and description accordingly, and will start clearing up the flairs soon.

It kinda bugged me for a while that we allowed memes about any Central Asian civilization, so I have created r/SteppePosting to be the new home of generic steppe memes, so that r/MongolHistoryMemes can focus on its actual theme.

Also, reminder that we have a discord server (now shared with SteppePosting) https://discord.gg/SNfAc9zdse
