Bidet

Hi, fellow struggling students!!! I hope everyone’s still doing okay after all these barrage of assessments.

I am on the train and it’s a long ride home so to kill time, I just wanna read your thoughts about having bidets in our campus toilets? I personally am still adjusting to the toilet paper culture here in Oz and bruh, can my woohoo ever adjust to this dilemma? 💀

As a new student, I am impressed* by the amount of Dyson hand dryers that Monash has to boast… BUT as a regular uni-pooper, I always find myself fighting for my cherry with a rough 2-ply? I mean… it’s a choice.

Coming from a background where water is a popular standard of hygiene, transitioning to "dry, and rough rubbing" isn’t exactly a pleasurable and refreshing(???) experience. It feels like trying to clean peanut butter out of an apple (🍎 as in imagine the butt or the center part of the fruit where the stem is at) with a paper towel. It’s a struggle. And we can keep on struggling but ummm interesting debris will just persist and exist. I personally don’t love walking with such baddies.

I don’t intent to colonize. I’m not trying to be a bidet evangelist. I am not here to impose but wouldn't it be nice to have the option? Right now, the closest thing we have to a bidet is the "emotional support water bottle" or a makeshift douche, and let me tell you, the logistics of that in a public stall are… chaotic. Like, don’t you hate it when you accidentally drink from your slightly used portable bidet.

To my fellow Asians/International students: How are we doing in the land down under?

To the locals: Do you ever feel like you're missing out on that "freshly showered" slash hydrated feeling mid-day? Or am I just being a chaotic over-sharer while we’re all collectively dying from assignments?

Would love to see a discussion so PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS!!!

what do you think of going into medicine after studying a bachelors of education

I am a first year student who is doing a bachelors of education as I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, and kinda just chose education cuz I got a scholarship and wanted some level of security if I didn't get into medicine. What are the odds of someone of this background going into med?

Blind Speed Dating Event in Melb?

I saw this event being held at the state library of Victoria next week (https://www.slv.vic.gov.au/whats-on/speed-dating-state-library-victoria-straight-session). I thought this could be a good opportunity to meet new people and friends, especially with the recent downturn of dating apps and declining social atmosphere.

It is a bit pricey at $50 a ticket, not sure if its worth it or not.

Wondering if anyone would be interested in going together?

Also if anyone has experience with these sort of events please do comment.

Further research opportunities

You think you're nerdy? I'm a bachelors student wanting to start writing research papers and getting into more in-depth research about a topic I am fascinated about, above my current subjects. I am doing an assignment now about the topic i'm interested in, and will be for the rest of the semester. But I want more. If I was gonna do a PhD, this is what it would be in. any way to get a head start? the topic I am researching feels urgent and i'm really into it and wanna do more and contribute to discussions about how this topic should be addressed. The topic is in the social sciences.

Thanks!

Why don’t people respect quiet spaces

I want to pull my hair out!!! I’m an edu student and I use the edu student area to study. Why do people scream in here and eat smelly food??

I’ve also noticed people starting to hang around the doors waiting for education people to let them in??

There’s always people in here in groups just gossiping and watching tv on their laptops.

It’s just a lack of respect of surroundings and other people in the spaces. We’re all paying thousands of dollars to be here. If you’re going to use a space not for its intended purpose, go elsewhere.

It has gotten to a point where you can’t even call out individual people, it is groups of people being disrespectful to others.

I know the law building has similar issues, is this really a standard that we’re willing to accept?

Fix the fu8cking panopto

Am I the only one annoyed with the Monash panopto?

They say that the recordings might be recorded due to technical issues. I was like, okay, that is possible.i mean the uni is not a childcare center that spoonfeeds you every single thing.

But how annoying of them to be so negligent that there are no recorded classes at all.

A sugar coated system. Wasn't monash one of the best uni in the whole Australia? Hire some Compsci students or to fix this shit or something. I am soooo mad.

How do I even suggest the system fix to the school?

are there scenarios where they stop you from withdrawing.

a guy in my class used AI for his whole assignment and I'm like 99% sure hes going to get caught. when I asked him what is plan is if he gets caught he said he'd just withdraw before the 12th of may (withdraw fail starts). Is that actually viable?

Law1111 partner won’t do anything???

Hey so just curious has the deadline to tell the tutor that my partner for the collaborative FOL assignment has not even written a word on the document passed?? 😋😋. Idk if I’m overreacting though since technically there’s still a week and then I can say ‘he’s done nothing wtf )):’ but by then itll be too late??? So idk?? Might already be lol

He has barely (like once a week but is actively posting on social media!!!!) responded to my texts and when I say “hey have u looked @ what I wrote (case summary)“ he said “yeah I’ll get around to it” fast forward like 3 weeks and wow! No edits on the document!! I don’t want to come off as pushy or anything especially cause I have legit zero friends in class but oh my godddd - also he did say he had a personal issue so he wasn’t gonna concentrate a lot on the assessment like 3 weeks ago which I totally understand but like…

We haven’t even chosen what concept we’re doing for the thing ands it’s due in a week bro 😞😞😞. I’m thinking to literally just start the essay & try do it all myself but I’m a bit worried he’ll suddenly go on like Friday ‘hey I didn’t want to do this concept wtaf. Why didn’t u leave me a paragraph to do’ but idk

Like I have a good idea on what I’d write if I had to do it myself but since it’s a collaborative thinf unless he participates won’t I lose marks?? Idk if there was a way to do this stuff myself I would 😭😭😭

Lowkey jusf any opinions would be great thanks (: sorry for the rant I just don’t know what to do ):

My groupmates has not been contributing

Hi all, I would really need some advice regarding my situation

In one of my units, we have weekly group submissions. Even though I share the document every week with everyone, for the past 7 weeks my teammates has either not touched the document at all, or contributed in very small amounts (refining my work, paraphrasing what I wrote, etc). This week, on the day before submission, I did 100% of the work by myself because none of them has even opened the document. I don't mind completing the work by myself, my main concerns lies with the fact it doesn’t sit right with me that my teammates are receiving marks that do not reflect their contribution to the team.

I really do not feel comfortable speaking up to them about it because I really do not like confrontation, and also over half of them are internationals and there is a bit of a language barrier between me and them (one girl has to use a translating app to understand the TA in tutorials).

If you guys give me some advice on how to navigate this, I would really appreciate it!

Class action on Shincheonji

This is a call for all Ex-Shincheonji members and current Shincheonji members in Australia and the families who are tormented by Shincheonji through their brutal recruitment and mind-bending indoctrination of innocent students.

Would you be interested in suing SCJ in Australia? A collective class action will have a strong impact, and we can protect students from getting mentally, physically and financially abused by SCJ. These impacted students unknowingly cause so much pain and distress to the parents and wider family.

This will also support the government investigation into Shincheonji. Please let me know your thoughts.

Second spec con

I submitted a second special consideration application on Saturday (for an assignment after already applying for a short extension) and it’s now Tuesday with no update yet.

My previous application got approved within minutes, so I’m a bit confused if this delay is normal especially since this is a follow-up application with updated medical documents, as i couldn’t complete my assignment within the two days granted through short extension.

Has anyone else experienced this? How long did yours take, especially for a second application? would appreciate any reply 🙏

failing assignment FIT1047

I was unable to make a few workshops and applied sessions, and essentially just have no idea how to do the 3rd part of the assignment. It's already overdue and the 3rd and 4th parts are worth like 24 marks out of 30. I'm genuinely panicking cause I've spent so many hours trying to figure out the content and I just don't get it at all. I got an 80 on my first assignment worth 15% can i still come back from this :').
