Massive Ship collection in Australia

📍Ballina, NSW, Australia.

Ballina Naval and Maritime Museum. Insane collection of model ships. Virtually all are scratch built years ago. Very impressive. A lot were not hyper detailed, or very detailed at all by today’s standards. However, the fact these were scratch built with wood mostly before computers I would assume is quite the marvel. All in large scales. Starting at 1/200 and going up to models of the Hood that were 8-9ft long! A small snippet of the hundreds of models. Seeing ships like my favourites like HMS Vanguard (1946) in 1/200 scale was fantastic. The Maine was the most impressive to me.

HMS Victory (part 10): The final guns and carronades have been assembled, and the quarterdeck is nearing completion!

Obviously some bits and pieces are still under construction, but that is detailing. I thought it was good enough to share!

Next up:

- rigging the guns

- finishing up the poop deck (painting + detailing)

- working on the HMS entry

- adding a whole lot of random bits and pieces required for standing and running rigging

Tamiya King George V

Well I took a deep breath and finally dove into the world of photo etch for the first time.I’m 66,so my eyes are bad and my hands shake, but I pushed on and I’m fairly happy with the results. I’m going to let them sit overnight and then fine tune them a bit tomorrow. As always, any suggestions or critiques are welcome and appreciated.

First time builder. Is this plank too short? Did I mess it up?

Hi there, first time builder having a go at Artesania Latina's bounty jolly boat. I started the planking stage and I think I cut this plank a bit too short. Since this lower half of the hull will be painted after applying filler, can I mask it that way or should I try replacing it?

San Felipe Canons Complete

Canons are finished, but still need rigging. I made a major newbie mistake; I had to modify many canons to get them all to line up with the gunports. I relied on the kits template for gunport placement and it turns out many of them were a little high. If I build another ship, I'll build a canon first and use the height to help determine gunport placement. I'm still pretty happy with the results! I also finished one of the pilot doors(?). Thanks for looking!

HMS Armada

I first made a plastic template for the ship to sit on so I didn't sit too low in the water, then I spread a water based wall filler over the base to form the bow waves. The rest is just painting, keeping the colours lighter in the wake and darker where it's in disturbed.

3D printing spare parts for Yamato #78030

Well I made a ”small” misstake for the stand for this model.

I glued BB1 togheter with BB2 and then I glued the deck on the ship (yea I’m stupid).

Been trying to separate BB1 and BB2 with no success to instead assemble BB1 and BB3 (which was my intentional thing, yes I’m still stupid).

Feels like I’m going to end up breking BB1, so I thought maybe someone knows if there is a 3D printer design for BB1?

I’ve been googling but I can’t seem to find anything. Maybe I’m just bad at searching.

So just wanted to see if someone know if it exists?

What model or brand should I look for ships after ww2?

I know that although most brands have a large variety of kits but also some brands may be better in a certain area and whatnot, but I'm not too sure about brands that make model ships that are newer than ww2 and are recommended. There are only a hand full of "modern" cruisers or destroyers like the USS Long beach, USS Arleigh Burke and USS Zumwalt that I have seen. So I just wanna ask whether yg have any suggestions.

Seeking advice to clean this

My uncle has enlisted my help to clean up this model. It says "Bounty" on the sides and back, but it doesn't look too close to other HMS Bounty models I've seen online. I'm mostly hoping for advice on how to clean this safely. There's also a few loose pieces, I'd love recommendations for what type of glue or adhesive to use to reattach them. There's also some rigging that needs re-tying or replacing, so any guidance on that would be welcome. I have some experience with crafting and painting miniatures, but I've never done a ship before. All advice is welcome!! Thanks!

the story of one museum

tripadvisor.es

Ten years ago, a unique museum of sailing ships opened in Riga—a place where each model tells its own story of the sea, freedom, and true craftsmanship. Visitors walked inside, stood in awe, and asked the same question again and again: "Why isn't something so beautiful on display in the heart of Paris, London, or Rome?"

Later, the collection moved to Valencia, Spain. Here, in the birthplace of the great traditions of ship modeling, it truly came to life and shone even brighter. These models are truly high art: even a model assembled from a kit requires at least three years of painstaking work and around 12,000 tiny, intricate parts... while completely custom-made masterpieces, created from scratch, are crafted by only a few masters worldwide.

Today, the museum does not have a permanent location, and the exhibition remains closed because we have not yet found the patrons necessary for its prosperity. That's why I've made the difficult but sincere decision to place several of my most special ships in caring hands.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, or know someone who might be interested in the collection, or a place where our models could find a new home, we'd be grateful.
