Hey everyone,

I recently gave an interview at Concentrix and got selected for the Optus process (Australia telecom support). Before I accept the offer, I really want some honest opinions from people who have worked there or know about this role.

Here are the details I’ve been told:

Salary: ₹21k–₹30k in hand

Incentives: Unlimited performance incentives

Shift: Between 2:30 AM to 3:30 PM (any 9-hour rotational shift)

Working days: 5 days, 2 rotational week offs

Transport: One-side pickup/drop provided

Process details:

It’s a telecom customer support process (like Airtel/Jio/Vodafone in India, but for Optus in Australia). The job involves handling customer calls, resolving their telecom issues, and also doing some upselling.

I have a few doubts and would really appreciate if someone with experience can guide me:

How do the actual shift timings work? What are the common shift slots?

What is the salary structure like (CTC vs in-hand)?

Do they provide PF, ESI, night shift allowance, bonuses, etc.?

Is the in-hand salary fixed, or does it depend heavily on performance?

Are there targets or strict performance metrics?

What’s the leave policy like (paid leaves, sick leave)?

How is the work culture and pressure level?

Do they make you sign any bond/contract?

If I leave within a year, is there any penalty or recovery amount?

Also, if anyone is commuting from Bhayander or Mira Road, how manageable is the travel with these shifts?

Honestly, I’m a bit confused whether I should join or not. The salary seems okay for a fresher, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about BPO jobs.

Would really appreciate genuine advice 🙏

My experience getting a learner’s licence at Mira Road RTO without an agent

So a bit of background about me: I’m a software engineer, originally from UP but born, raised, and educated entirely in Maharashtra. For the last 2 years I’ve been staying at my native place in UP while working remotely, but all my documents still have my Mira Road address.

Because of that, I wasn’t able to apply for a learner’s licence in UP, so I had to come to Mira Road RTO for the process.

Today I went to Mira Road RTO for my learner’s licence appointment and wanted to share my experience for anyone planning to go without an agent.

I had booked the 11:00–11:30 AM slot and reached around 10:30. Outside, the timings mentioned were 10:30 to 2 PM, but the counters were still closed. Most officials were having breakfast and the counters finally opened around 11:20.

By then a huge crowd had gathered, mostly for permanent driving licences. The clerks made separate queues for DL and LL applicants. I was in the LL queue with only 2–3 people, but they first processed all DL applicants. When I asked about my appointment timing, the clerk said they would first finish the DL queue and then start LL applications.

One major issue I noticed: there was no xerox/printout facility nearby and the RTO itself also doesn’t provide one. I had to walk around 1 km in the heat just to get printouts of my documents.

Another thing I observed was that almost everyone seemed to have come through agents or driving schools. I even overheard conversations about “4500 lagega” etc. The boy ahead of me in the LL queue had also come through an agent.

When my turn came, the SI immediately understood that I had come directly without any agent. The tone became a bit different. He asked for a printout of the online payment receipt, which I didn’t know was required. Then he asked me to speak in Marathi because “he didn’t know Hindi,” even though I had just seen him speaking Hindi with others.

Now I absolutely support respecting the culture and language of the place where you live. I was born in UP, but I’ve spent almost my entire life in Maharashtra, so I understand why Marathi is important here and I genuinely respect that. So I switched to Marathi as much as I could. Then he pointed out that my address in the form didn’t exactly match Aadhaar. To be fair, that mistake was on my side because while filling the form I only entered the room number and locality instead of the full address. I tried explaining that those were the only fields shown during form filling, but both officers told me not to argue.

At that point I honestly went numb because I couldn’t explain myself properly in Marathi. A senior officer came in, they discussed something, and I stepped out.

I corrected the form completely with the exact Aadhaar address, again went outside in the heat for printouts, and came back. This time only one officer was inside. He asked me to wait outside for a few minutes.

Later they called me in, asked what I do, and when I said I’m a software engineer, the entire tone changed. He calmly started speaking in Hindi and even asked the clerk to help me with the form.

After that I gave the learner’s test, passed it, and finally got my LL.

Overall, I wouldn’t say the experience was terrible, but it definitely could be much better. The process still feels heavily dependent on agents, basic facilities are missing, timings aren’t followed properly, and first-time applicants who come directly often feel lost.

Some advice if you’re going there directly:

  • Carry printouts of EVERYTHING.
  • Ensure your form address exactly matches Aadhaar.
  • Be mentally prepared for delays.
  • Knowing basic Marathi definitely helps.
  • Don’t panic if they send you back for corrections.

In the end, I still managed to complete the process without paying any agent.

I’ve been living in Mira Road for more than 16 years, and today I randomly decided to roam around like I used to back in the day. What started as a casual walk turned into a full trip down memory lane.

Mira Road has changed so much. New buildings everywhere, way more crowd, constant noise… places where there used to be open roads or empty spaces are now packed with shops and construction. It barely feels like the same place sometimes.

But walking around today brought back memories I hadn’t thought about in years.

I still remember school days when phones weren’t everything. Me and my friends used to spend ₹10 at cyber cafés just to play Counter-Strike. Mornings meant getting ready for school with VH1, MTV, and 9XM playing in the background, with those Bade-Chote jokes somehow making the day better.

Then there was Vardhaman Fantasy—those ₹2 tickets, bunking college lectures just to go there and chill with friends or sometimes with someone special.

Maxus bridge is another core memory. Me and my close friends sitting in the center during sunset, doing absolutely nothing, just talking and watching the sky. What a feeling that was 😍

Maxus Mall had its own era too—I still remember when Honey Singh came there and the whole area was packed.

Rasaz for cheap movie tickets, Chote Miya shawarma, Merwans cake shop… these weren’t just places, they were part of growing up here.

Then came the college phase—chai sutta spots, hookah parlours, cafés replacing the old Irani and local hangout spots. And of course, Kashmira bridge and those late-night bike race scenes.

After walking around today, I honestly can’t figure out what exactly I miss.

The old Mira Road?

The pre-digital era?

The people who were part of those memories?

Or maybe all of it.

Whatever it is, today Mira Road gave me a smile and quietly took me back to a version of life that felt simpler.
