Am I too late?

I have had so much going on that I have completely forgotten to start anything for the garden yet. Not only that, I don't really have a plan or know when things can really be planted outside..

Am I screwed? Do I start anyways and hope for the best? If I start indoors, should I have a fan on them so they aren't super leggy and they can toughen up? I am overwhelmed with all the information out there right now that my brain refuses to read it.

Bought those in St Leon's. Can they stay indoors in those pots until end of May or should I move them to bigger containers asap?

Basil, strawberry, tomato, rosemary and mint. Based on research it sounds like they won't be ready to be outside until end of May. I was thinking of using a grow light for 6 or 12 hours until then. Can I leave them in those pots for now? Thanks so much for all the advice.

Help with transplanting

I just started gardening last year, and was flying by the seat of my pants. Most of my vegetable garden died, and so many trees too. I want to have a better success rate this year.

I started hardening off my trees, flowers, and bare root strawberries, to be ready to plant next weekend. I would imagine I should be doing the same for my vegetable starts, but that will be a lot of work to move outside every day. Does anyone here notice a difference between planting directly vs hardening off?

I have read that mixing asprin with water can help with root development? Does anyone do this or have experience?

My tomatoes faired pretty well last year, but my beets, carrots, melons, squashes, and peppers did nothing.

Is there some additional soil prep I can do to help? Does planting later help?

I am trying to grow some watermelons, small sugar and atlantic giant pumpkins, canteloupes, and butternut squashes, where should my expectations be set for results on these?

Thanks for any help.

Hi all! New member from Manitoba here.

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I’ve got a small farm and some questions about crop care and chemical products, and I’m excited to learn from everyone here. Thanks in advance!

I do fertilize and water regularly, but I know that I should be mulching them and I’m not quite sure how. At the moment I have lots of leaves around the base of the trees because I didn’t clean up after winter yet. Is it a good idea to leave the leaves there? I feel that there are too many leaves there not allowing the cedars to breathe. I’m not sure if I’m correct on that.

Or should I remove the leaves, add some topsoil and then wood chips for mulch? Any suggestions? I could add some pictures later.

Cattle panel trellis

Hi! Thinking about adding one of these to my garden set-up. wondering if Winnipeg gardeners can share picture of their own set-up?!

Big question I have is: will the trellis be covered by squash and cucumbers within our short growing season- or will the metal be visible throughout summer.

Thanks!

Is this Oregano?

This plant is springing back up and it looks like Oregano, but it has no smell and didn't last year either when I've broken off and crumpled the leaves. Once it's bigger I might try drying some to see if I can smell it at all after that.

Wanted Apricot Solenia Begonia by Proven Winners not Dummen Orange

Helpful gardeners, where are "Proven Winners apricot solenia begonias"? It is specifically the buttery golden orange coloured variety that tolerates more sun than usual.

Not to be confused with Dummen Orange apricot variety which is very pink. This pink variety is everywhere that I've checked (unless I missed it) Lacoste, St Marys, Red Valley, Jensens, A Pattersons, and Shelmerdines.

If I have to I'll settle, but ideally I'll be happiest with the golden Proven Winners one. For that I need you to be my eyes inside and outside Winnipeg please!

Looking for Iresine

Hey everyone!
Does anyone know if any of the Winnipeg and area greenhouses are carrying Iresine this year?
My usual greenhouse didn’t order any, and I’m looking to recreate my deck planters that I had last year, and the Iresine was beautiful in them.
Many thanks.
