Help with transplanting

I just started gardening last year, and was flying by the seat of my pants. Most of my vegetable garden died, and so many trees too. I want to have a better success rate this year.

I started hardening off my trees, flowers, and bare root strawberries, to be ready to plant next weekend. I would imagine I should be doing the same for my vegetable starts, but that will be a lot of work to move outside every day. Does anyone here notice a difference between planting directly vs hardening off?

I have read that mixing asprin with water can help with root development? Does anyone do this or have experience?

My tomatoes faired pretty well last year, but my beets, carrots, melons, squashes, and peppers did nothing.

Is there some additional soil prep I can do to help? Does planting later help?

I am trying to grow some watermelons, small sugar and atlantic giant pumpkins, canteloupes, and butternut squashes, where should my expectations be set for results on these?

Thanks for any help.
