I do fertilize and water regularly, but I know that I should be mulching them and I’m not quite sure how. At the moment I have lots of leaves around the base of the trees because I didn’t clean up after winter yet. Is it a good idea to leave the leaves there? I feel that there are too many leaves there not allowing the cedars to breathe. I’m not sure if I’m correct on that.

Or should I remove the leaves, add some topsoil and then wood chips for mulch? Any suggestions? I could add some pictures later.

As you see in this picture, I have a patch of strawberries here that I really don’t want anymore. How do I make this soil rich enough to plant tomatoes? I’ve also heard that using the leaves is a good thing and I didn’t completely clean up the leaves last year. While I have what looks like a mess I’m wondering if I should work those leaves in to the soil?
