Lush Employees Would Not Stop Asking Me About My Mom

I know I am beating a dead horse I know. I recently went to my Lush store in Wisconsin, my fiancé and I use the Godiva shampoo bar so we are in there often. The first employee i encounter as soon as I walk in rushes over to me to ask if I am shopping for my mom for Mother's Day. I flat out said no. She asks me what kind of scents she likes etc. I said nothing. And that is not a joke my mom is very pessimistic and we have a weird relationship. I prefer to get her experience based gifts she does not like scented or self care things. This employee takes that as a clue. Then one minute later I get approached by ANOTHER employee as I am looking at perfumes. He keeps asking me about my mom if im shopping for her, what scents she likes, etc. I told him she doesn't want anything but I am gladly spending money here on myself. He then says something like what would she like? I was so uncomfortable like I do not want to discuss my mom. I ended up just grabbing a shampoo bar and getting out. No extra treats nothing. This happens 80% of the time I get swarmed and then I get overwhelmed and leave. Its like I am not allowed to make decisions for myself at all. I can't spend a minute alone to think in there while im shopping. It is literally embarrassing to bring friends in there because we have to battle off employees we can't chat amongst ourselves and have fun shopping because someone is constantly hovering its like a god damn surveillance state 😭 I am against ordering online if you can get it in person because packages by us get stolen a lot but im nearing my breaking point its not worth the hassle or price Edit: Spelling

Am I rude?

When I shop at lush, which is decreasing significantly, I immediately tell the first salesperson who speaks to me that I am all set, I am browsing, and I will ask for help if I actually need. I even reiterate that I am JUST LOOKING. Like I’ve interrupted them before in the beginning of a sales pitch to me to basically say go away…but I can’t stand being sneak attacked while I’m just looking at stuff. I’ve left many a review about wanting to be left alone and that I’ll most likely just leave if too many people talk to me.

Idk it makes me so uncomfortable to shop there because I can’t actually enjoy anything.

Wow

These are both 7.9 oz containers of Yummy Custard. The left is from last year, the right just arrived today. The difference in how they filled the jars is insane. I haven’t ordered anything but body sprays in a while so I’m not sure if this was just an error or not. Is it even worth reaching out to CS about? 😩😩😩

Update: Thanks everyone for all of the helpful comments! 🙂 I reached out to CS and explained the situation. They of course asked me to come exchange it but I can’t bc there’s no store near me so they refunded it.

AI BATH BOMBS

So i dont know if any other Lushies have been dealing with this - i know sometimes TikTok trends hit different countries at different times - but THE AI BATH BOMB QUESTIONS ARE DRIVING ME UP THE WALL. Customers will come in, bless them, and ask about these bath bombs that have toys in them and I have to explain to them that it's A.I. The first couple of times it was endearing that they thought of LUSH when they saw bath bombs on their feed but now im just resorting to "we don't have those, unfortunately" for my own sake.

And it's not just middle aged people asking, it's people in their late teens and early 20s now. I dont know if this has been mentioned on here before but oh my lord is it getting out of hand. Send help 😭

I used to work at lush and TBH the company is so hypocritical. They say they’re going to pay us a living wage then barely give us any more hourly pay, and give us less hours than the few they were giving us to begin with (I could barely get 20 hours a week, and they didn’t have a position available for full time even though I was begging to be full time, they didn’t want to make me full time because they didn’t want to give me the benefits).

Also they’re nowhere near as eco friendly as they say they are. All products are shipped to us in single use non recycled plastic. They used to use paper but switched to plastic because it’s cheaper.

On top of everything else, we got blamed for drops in sales when they stepped off social media. And if we didn’t borderline harass customers (constantly bugging them to try and sell a product) we’d get in trouble. Even if the customer was obviously uncomfortable.

Sometimes, they would make us do things like rearrange things, or ship things that THEY MESSED UP ON back to them on our busiest days. Like they forgot what it was like to actually be on the floor. We pups get visits from corporate on our busy days, which made it so much more difficult because our floor leaders would get taken off the floor to attend to it.

One time I gave a newer coworker advice, then I got in trouble because I’m not a manager and I don’t have that right.

Their products are honestly overpriced. They tell us what to say when we’re asked why it’s so expensive, but we got 50% off and the company still profited when we purchased so it’s at least 50% more expensive than it should be.

On top of all of that they barely gave us any PTO or sick time

Overall working there wasn’t great and the company is not as moral as you think.

Lush price increase is insane

Lush just increased its sticky dates/sex bomb/dirty sprays from £25 last year to £29 now? And Honey I washed the kids and comforter sprays from £20 last year to £22 and now £25?? I also remember when the prices of perfumes increased by £10 for 100ml bottles last year and when large bottles of supermilk were £23.50 in 2024 and £28 now.

are we being robbed in daylight? 👀

Any brands that you guys recommend switching to that doesn’t scam us?

new body sprays testing ( 🍌🥧 + 🤑💸 )

I've just been to the Lush Covent Garden (London) store and they already have tester bottles of Banoffee Pie and Million Dollar body sprays..! 🥹 so if someone is interested in my humble opinion/little review, here are my thoughts ✨

🍌🥧 initially smells exactly like the shower gel but when it dries down (I tried it on a skin) it looses its banana note and becomes more caramely (reminded me of LTGTR)

🤑💸 it's a citrusy & lavender scent; relaxing and uplifting at the same time. upon drying down (on a tester paper) it becomes slightly muted and less sharp yet notes are staying same - zesty and herbal (UPD: the more it dries down the sweeter it becomes)

I'm not really good at describing scents or smells but I hope it helped at least someone ✌🏼😅

thoughts on karma body conditioner?

I have always loved karma and I bought the body lotion today and I’m absolutely in love with its power and projection!

My question is: are people bothered by its projection and scent? Or can I feel confident that i’m not bothering anyone when walking around wearing this lotion?

edit: it’s the body lotion i just have a tendency to call them all body conditioners, sorry for the confusion!

Joy Shelf

My current stash. I started buying Lush again 3 months ago and here I am now lol. Some old, some new.

How do you store your shampoo bars?

I’ve found the metal tins retain water and make it too soggy while the brown cork pot stains light colored surfaces when it gets wet.😩 my coconut rice cake bar is a mushy ball right now. I’m just trying to make my bars last longer while not making ruining the inside of my shower.

I was a lush shampoo bar loyalist for three years until understood why my hair never thrived

I defended lush shampoo bars in every conversation about bars for years. The packaging is beautiful, the brand ethics are genuinely good, the in store experience makes you feel like you're buying something special. My hair was always fine, never great, but I blamed that on everything else, my water, my styling habits, stress, aging. Never the bar.

Started doing a proper research on scalp chemistry after noticing my color was fading faster than it should and someone mentioned pH. So apparently.. lush shampoo bars are soap based, saponified oils, sitting at pH 9 to 10. My scalp's acid mantle sits at pH 4.5 to 5.5. I had been washing my hair with something essentially as alkaline as baking soda every few days for three years and wondering why my scalp felt tight and my ends were always dry.

The waxy feeling I'd occasionally get that I blamed on hard water wasn't hard water at all, it was soap reacting with minerals to form insoluble deposits on my hair shaft. The rebound oiliness at my roots that I thought was just my scalp type was my scalp overproducing oil to compensate for being stripped repeatedly at the wrong pH.

Started researching SCI based alternatives after figuring out the pH issue, looked at ethique, hibar, and kitsch among others. I went with the kitsch rice water bar first because it was available at target and I wanted to try it before committing to anything I'd have to order online. Within three weeks my scalp had calmed down in a way it hadn't in years. My colorist commented at my next appointment that my hair looked healthier than usual which was the external confirmation I needed to stop second guessing the switch.

I don't think lush is a bad brand. I think their shampoo bars are the wrong formula for most people's scalp chemistry and the beautiful branding makes it very easy to blame yourself rather than the product when things don't work out.

How many lush stores are near you?

I’m up late at night just thinking lol. In a 30 mile radius i have about 7 stores near me. Then 2 stores within 2 miles. I feel pretty lucky!

I know. I also was shocked. But a staff member told me today it’s being discontinued as the new Super Milk protein shampoo has replaced it. This is my favourite lush shampoo for the last 2.5 years. Lush I hate you.

If LUSH ever ends the Bring It Back program…?

If LUSH ever ends the Bring It Back program, I honestly think I’d drift away from the brand for quite a while.

I only discovered LUSH around half a year ago, but I fell deep into it very quickly — I’ve probably spent around $2000 already between spa treatments and products.

One of the biggest reasons I became so attached to LUSH was the Fresh Face Masks and the whole “freshness” philosophy behind them. The fact that you can exchange 5 empty pots for a fresh mask genuinely motivates me to keep using and enjoying my products regularly instead of just letting them sit around.

At this point I already have most product categories stocked at home, so honestly, one of the main reasons I still visit stores regularly is for the Fresh Face Masks. And once I’m in the store, I almost always end up picking up a few other things too.

I know there hasn’t been any official announcement about the program ending, but if anyone from LUSH ever happens to read this: I really think removing Bring It Back would cause a lot of loyal fans to lose part of what makes the brand feel special.

Of course, I know the program didn’t exist forever, but for newer Lushies like me — people who became fans after it was introduced — losing it would feel like a huge loss emotionally and experientially, not just financially.
