Did the Yokohama engraving thing

For schedule reasons, I wasn't able to join my gf in her trip to Japan to visit an old friend. However, my Leica MP did. She was gracious enough to help me get the thing done. I sent it with her along with a card in Chinese to tell the man I wasn't able to meet him directly and requested that he absolutely desecrate my camera as he pleased. My only true request was to have my government Chinese name put on there. She found him taking a nap in the back and a sign to say to wake him up via phone call. He woke and jumped straight into it with no hesitation.

Enjoy the results, or cry depending on what kind of tool owner you are.

For future thread rabbit holers: May 2026, still about 10,000 yen (CAD$ 87, USD$63), and took 20 mins. He still only speaks Chinese and won't be able to communicate much, as other threads have said. Gf noted there was a line up formed as soon as she woke him as he's becoming more and more popular from social media.

Inherited from my father’s uncle. There’s more but this is most of it.

Lots to take in here. Haven’t shot with any of it yet but working on getting it all organized and beginning to learn how to use it all. Also learning about current condition and if they’re safe to use before possibly causing any damage / looking into service if necessary.

My siblings and I all took photography through high-school. Mother was a photographer by trade. Brother stuck with it the most but we all still enjoy getting out and getting some fun shots.

Uncle was a life long photographer. Many trips to Canada and the west shooting wild life, landscapes and macro shots of flowers etc... We’re from the Great Lakes area so he also took a lot around here.

I found this M6 on Facebook Marketplace for $353.00 ($6,000.00 MXN); should the ‘’Leica M6 1984-2002’’ be engraved? Looks like the ink or serigraphy was peeled off. Should I buy it?

Context: I’m from Tijuana and it is quite common for people to buy pallets of personal belongings from CA. It's like a mystery box, and the resellers many times don’t know what they are selling and just want a quick profit. In February I managed to pay ~$60 for a fully functional Mamiya 645, and I'm wondering if I can stretch my luck again and purchase this camera and maybe a lottery ticket.

Can we hope for a soon to be announced D-Lux 9 ?

Panasonic just announced the Lumix L10, a Micro 4/3 24M pixels (20,4M effective) with a BSI CMOS sensor, phase detect focus (779 points), OLED EVF and fully articulated LCD... and of course the same Leica 24-75mm summilux lens found on D-Lux 8 ! Please Leica... take my money !!!

Got lucky and came across a new, in box M10-R. My first rangefinder

Like the title states, I was lucky enough to find this new, in box M10-R. I’ve been casually perusing M bodies for the last few months, but not planning to actually buy one until next year. Then I stumbled upon this one and the price was too good to pass up.

Currently my only M mount lens is the Mandler 35mm f/2 which I was using it on my Nikon Zf. I’m looking at different 28mm lenses once I financially recover 😂

Should be fun learning the rangefinder system!

Hey everyone,
I’m trying to decide between the Leica M10-R and the Leica M11 for my first personally owned M camera. I’m coming from the SL and R system.
I do have experience shooting with M cameras from borrowing a friend’s setup, so I’m not completely new to the rangefinder experience, but this would be my first actual M body.
The M10-R is tempting because I can get it for around $1000/£800 less than the M11, which is obviously significant. I already have a Summilux 50 1.4 asph v5 lens, so lens choice isn’t really part of the equation.
What’s making the decision difficult is that I’m not sure how much the M11 improvements would realistically matter to me in day-to-day shooting. USB-C honestly doesn’t change my life, and battery life isn’t a huge concern either.
From people who have owned or used both:
Which would you choose as a first M camera and why?
Does the M11 actually feel noticeably better in real-world shooting?
Is the metering upgrade a big enough difference to justify the extra cost?
Any things you loved or disliked about either body over time?
I mainly shoot family, everyday life, street, and more intentional slower photography.
Would really appreciate hearing from people who have spent time with both cameras.

Leica SL2-S problem with TTartisan AF 75mm f2.0 L-Mount

Friends, I bought this lens for testing and encountered a problem. I see this pattern on the LCD screen and viewfinder, but when I press the magnifier, the image is normal and there is no distortion. However, when I take a photo in both JPG and DNG formats, the problem persists. Both the camera and lens firmware are up-to-date. I suspect the problem is with the lens profile the camera is adjusting. However, this section is disabled in the menu and I can't disable it. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a solution?

UPDATE: I contacted TTartisan support, and they sent me the firmware, which for some reason isn't available on the official website.

v1.4. I updated the lens and everything immediately went back to normal. If anyone else encounters this issue, I've uploaded the firmware for free download at this link:

A bit of fungus and haze has appeared (not very noticeable in the photos , but I promise it’s there) on my lens and was wondering if anyone had a good guide or tutorial on how to disassemble and clean it. I’ve checked on YouTube and tried to find a manual, but so far haven’t found anything that is thorough and clear enough to inspire confidence. I was told the first step is to unscrew the front element by hand counter clockwise. I tried it, it was too tight. Am I meant to unscrew any of the small screws first? Or has it been tightened overtime and I must oil it first? Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I cannot afford a CLA at the moment, especially for a Leica lens. It is a beautiful lens , I would love to save it.

M2R repair

Hey all!

My beloved M2R is now in Germany at Leica to repair an on-again-off-again light leak (see photo).

Both Don and Youxin have looked at it, and can't seem to track down the issue. Don suggested I use the camera with a case, and Youxin suggested I sell it. I took door #3, send it home.

About how long is the wait? Any guess as to the repair bill?

BTW, I'm amazed that Leica even supports a 55 y/o product. Based on it's serial number, this one was built in August '69. It's been a good shooter, but the leak has gotten worse and needs to be fixed.

Dream finally came true: Leica M4-2 + Summicron 35

Just got this beauty home, my first analog Leica after years of wanting one.

Black chrome M4-2 with the matching original box, paired with my Summicron 35mm (6-bit coded, which obviously does absolutely nothing on this body, but hey, it’s coded for my M11 too, so it’s pulling double duty).

Always wanted an analog M, and finally pulled the trigger. The shutter sound, the film advance, the whole tactile experience just hits different. Going to load it up with some Portra 400 and take it to Lake Garda next week for its baptism.

The body has some honest wear on the top and bottom plates, slight haze in the viewfinder, but the rangefinder patch is clear and well aligned, shutter feels smooth across all speeds and the curtains are light tight (checked with a flashlight). For a 45+ year old camera, I couldn’t be happier.

How do you guys like the M4-2? Feels like the underappreciated middle child of the M family but what a camera.

Cheers 📸

M11p weird rangefinder misalignment

Hey guys,
I’m here asking for second advices before (or to avoid) sending my M11p back to Wetzlar.
I’m noticing a weird misalignment in the rangefinder patch: the images match both vertically and horizontally, but on straight vertical lines the line in the rangefinder patcher is a bit slanted - see picture for reference (in the picture is way over exaggerated, in reality it’s way less noticeable).
I don’t know if it’s due to parallax (even tho to my understanding it shouldn’t affect vertical lines) and I can’t pinpoint if it does the same to infinity - looks like it to me but it could be my mind playing tricks.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I've tried the Sigma 105mm and the Lumix 100mm — both capable lenses, but neither quite clicked for me. The Sigma was a bit heavier and larger than I wanted in an occasional-use macro lens, while the Lumix was lighter; I didn't love its rendering, so I started looking elsewhere and ended up somewhere I wasn't expecting. What other macro lenses have you all tried aside from the Sigma or Lumix options?

Right now, my favorite lens is the Leica 100mm APO-Macro-Elmarit-R lens. I can easily adapt it to other camera bodies, and I really like the way it renders images. I just finished writing up my thoughts on this lens, if anyone is interested in reading more on it. You can find it here: https://www.konstantinkokoris.com/reviews/l-mount-macro-options-leica100mmapomacro

Leica CL Meter repair in Europe

The meter on my CL (the film one) died recently and I want to get it repaired, my local shop said they would do it, tried to rip me off, Amsterdam Camera Repairs doesn’t work on CLs anymore, to whom else could I turn?

u/MeMphi-S — 3 days ago

When I first opened the camera, I had spotted corrosion on the battery terminal rendering the light meter inoperable and the rangefinder was dim so I tried a new beam splitter but no luck. looking deeper in, there seems to be corrosion in the assembly of the rangefinder and this is beginning to be beyond me to take apart. I have extensive tech repair experience but this is a bit too different lol.

Trying to decide if its worth having it fixed or selling it off to buy a working one through eBay. I've always wanted a CL due to their tiny size so id rly like to get one or fix it if possible. I'm in NYC if there are any local places that can repair these.

Hi, I just thought I'd ask this community what you think of the Q, whether you still enjoy it, and what issues you've had with it. I have always had Fujis but have lately been seduced by the idea of the Q and a used model is the most I could afford (would love a Q2 or 3 but that's out of my range). I mainly shoot street photography and am looking for an upgrade from my Fuji XT-3, or at least a companion to it. I like the idea of the fixed lens because I want something i can just grab and go with. From what I've seen testing it, the lens quality is superb. I don't know if I should make the leap (could also go with the much hyped Fuji X100v which is also a fixed lens camera) but something in me wants to go for the luxury experience of the Leica. However, not if it has a lot of problems. I'm worried about maintenance, and what happens if something goes wrong with the lens, and then the entire camera has to go to the shop. Any experiences you have, good or bad, would be most appreciated! Thanks!
