Driving/reving by itself ?

2012 jeep patriot
130k miles

Anyone got a fix to this problem ? Check engine on and lighting bolt light are on, at idle of revs to 4k rpm and does not stop till I put it in drive, once it drive it continues to do the same thing so it’s driving without even pressing the pedal. Itll stay around 2k rpm at all time while driving. Itll stop once I press the brake then it seems normal at a red light .

Video down below is when I started it. it only dropped down in rpm’s because I pressed the brake. (I’m not pressing the gas pedal at all)

Cylinder 1 Misfire

I am approaching my wits end with my daughters car, this 2009 Jeep Patriot 139K miles, 2.4 L w/ CVT. Get a cylinder 1 misfire only at highway speed and it causes a constant light shudder in the engine. Turn engine off and on, and run below 45 and it’s fine. I’ve replaced sparks, coils, fuel injector on 1, valve cover gasket (had a small oil leak regardless of the misfire). Am going to do a vacuum test and see if it could be a hose or something. The fact that it’s only on highway tells me it could be a fuel mixture issue. The only code it throws is P0301. Any other thoughts on where to look before I have to put it in the shop?

Bonus points if anyone can point me to a place that either has a replacement ABS module or can fix a broken module. I’m also dealing with a lit up dashboard because of a bad ABS module. Yes I replaced all the wheel sensors and that did not fix it. Every search for this module yields nothing. Discontinued, or people just selling the pump.

Change your transmission fluid!!!! (CVT)

If you have a cvt this is your reminder to take extra good care of it and change the fluid regularly because these transmissions really seem to depend on it. Ive been getting faults with my transmission which has never had the fluid changed in 115k miles, apparently just changing the fluid makes a huge difference (obviously, but especially with a cvt) . One thing you absolutely need to do if you aren't doing it yourself is make sure both of the 2 filters are changed by whoever is doing it.

2015 patriot with 120k miles needs a new catalytic converter. is it worth it?

6 speed auto transmission, no rust, no leaks or water stains. 2015 jeep patriot 120k miles (purchased in 2023 at 105k miles for $10k).

basically the title! i've had a few repairs over the years, usually averaging about $1.5k a year in maintenance (things like the ABS sensor, break pads) we changed out the O2 sensor last year so it's definitely the cat at this point. there's nothing else functionally wrong with the car, but I was quoted 3k to replace the cat and i'm wondering whether it's a better choice at this point to get rid of it and lease a newer car with lower maintenance costs. I like owning my own car and not having a car payment (and I love my jeep) but I can't afford to buy another car and don't want to replace the catalytic converter if there's going to be another major repair within a few years. any advice is much appreciated!

No Heat

My wife drives a 2013 Jeep Patriot Sport 2.4 CVT with 110,900 miles. We recently replaced the AC compressor and everything was working fine. Then out of the blue she tells me the heat won’t work, like no hot air at all. I just checked it out and sure enough, no hot air. The first thing I checked was the coolant level and it was low. I filled it back up and then let the car run a for a while. When I went back to check, no heat at all. The engine is heating up normally, the gauge sits perfectly in the middle and has no temp issues when driving. Any suggestions on what it could be? Normally I wouldn’t be too worried since we’re going in to the second week of May however it’s currently 40° and we’re going to have a freeze warning going in to Tuesday morning where the low temp will likely break a record. It’s insane that it’s this cold. Thank you in advance!

How did you reach the crankshaft position sensor?

As the title ask… how did YOU reach it? If you did a DIY. We are struggling to replace this sensor.

2016 Patriot Sport 2.4 L

Skid plate under, but tried to access from “under” at the back portion of the engine, with Jeep on lifts. Nope.

It doesn’t really seem accessible to the average person. Getting the heat shield bolts off was maddening as well. We’re determined, but just wondering if we’re missing something.

ETA: in the process, we lost a socket to the engine. For awhile we could see it. Then we couldn’t lol. Rip. Had to buy a whole new set. It’s now down their rolling around living it’s best life…

Update #4

Well boys n girls it’s definitely my CVT trans is shot: amongst like some other things, that can be fixed, but they want $9k for trans for a Patriot that’s 10 yrs old w 184k, so I might just sell it to dealership or get something from Carvana or CarMax, Wifey saw an X5, so my ass might go big n buy some German Engineering, I’m already using my BIL’s Audi A3 but it’s too damn small for a family of 3.

So I’m saying good by too the Jeep community, but I’ll stay here too answer any questions that I can to help serve your needs

Just won a 2011 Jeep Patriot Latitude

Just picked up a 2011 Jeep Patriot Latitude from Copart using AutoBidMaster and now waiting for delivery. Clean title, around 190k miles, and total came out to about $2200 after auction fees, so it felt like a solid budget buy.

This is my first Patriot, and I'm so happy to join the club! So I've been reading through common Patriot problems and maintenance threads while I wait . I already know about the CVT transmission, throttle body issues, suspension wear, and subframe rust on these models. Noted.

What are the first things I'd inspect when it arrives? Trying to make a good checklist before I start driving it regularly. Thank you guys!

My 07’ has hit a new milestone. I bought her when she had already up to 215k miles but was a favor for a friend. She still has a lot of work to be done for when I bought her but she is still going strong.

My local scrapyard has a Patriot for parts. Any recommendations of things to take from it to either upgrade my own / keep as spares for my own?

$399 including parts, labor and tax for rear wheel bearing

I had a rear wheel bearing on driver's side put in and was charged $399 including parts and labor (and tax). Is that a fair price? The vehicle is an inexpensive one ( 2010 Jeep Patriot) but the shop doesn't give discounts for that, LOL. Thanks.

Hey guys.

Recently got 2016 High Altitude at 180,000 km and so far I am loving this little guy. Planning to invest some money and keep it for a few years at least. I am an off-road guy but doing lots of highway as well, so considering getting myself some good suspension and rims+ wheels. I prefer a lifted look but so far couldn’t find any good price friendly options that will give me this “lifted” off-road look to it.

Generally any advice on maintenance and upgrades would be very appreciated!

Thanks!

Rattling when idling/accelerating. Any ideas?

Reposting again because this post does not wanna seem to upload. Let me know if the video plays alright.

My 2010 Patriot CVT 2.4L (213,589 miles) is definitely on its last legs, but I'm trying to get it to last until my next car. New issue started a few days ago after I had to brake hard when someone blew a stop sign. Rattling/rapid clicking occurs when I'm idling and gets faster as I accelerate. Video shows where I think it may be coming from.

I know it could be literally anything, but I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem or has any idea what it could be. Frankly, just wanna get an idea of what it could be before I either take it to the mechanic or the junk yard.

Thanks in advance.

So on Saturday posted about my possible CVT being toast, well got a rental, Jeep got towed to Stealership. Won’t real know real damage or problems until late tomorrow or Thursday. Please hope it’s only the needing filter n fluid n not the whole transmission. Don’t really have $5k to shell out especially with Mothers Day n a few other things on my plate, is it wrong of me to start a GoFundMe or sell my feet online? Asking for a friend
