Fee Reimbursement Issue KMIT

The management of KMIT, Narayanguda, has reportedly informed 4th-year students who are eligible for full fee reimbursement/scholarships that they must pay ₹2 lakhs within 10 days, failing which they will not be allowed to appear for the final semester exams scheduled to begin on May 21. This is allegedly due to the government’s failure to release the funds meant for student fee reimbursement.

The students were informed verbally, with no written notice being issued, seemingly ensuring that there is no documented proof of what is happening internally.

There is already a public notice from the High Court stating that no institution has the right to withhold certificates or coerce students into paying fees.

The issue is that many students cannot afford such a large amount within such a short timeframe, which is precisely why they opted for the scholarship in the first place. Previously, the management also allegedly forced junior students to pay ₹1.5 lakhs in order to be allowed to participate in placements.

How should we proceed with this issue? Should we approach student unions like ABVP or other student groups? would they actually be effective? Or is it better to try to negotiate/compromise with the management given how close the exams are?
