Wifi card upgrade issue

Had a wifi card lying around and decided to check if my HP Envy could use the upgrade.

old Card (left): Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 1x1

"new" Card (right): Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 2x2 MU-MIMO

my laptop has 2 antenna cables so it should've been a quick in and out upgrade...

or so I thought...

HP says the card isn't supported even when they're both intel cards.

Model: HP ENVY 15-ae132tx

laptop specs:

i7-6500U

16GB DDR3

GTX 950M 4GB

256GB M.2 SATA

1TB HDD

it's a nice laptop even for it's age, but HP seems to not like people messing around with the laptops THEY BOUGHT

HP Instant Ink terrible & lies about sustainability

A forewarning for anyone starting the HP instant ink subscription; when your trial ends, you need to remove the instant ink cartridges and buy your own ones, otherwise they will charge you every month you continue to use the original subscription cartridges (whether free trial or paid). I had assumed that I could continue to use what ink I had left, but HP are obviously unhappy with that and want me to get brand new cartridges despite these ones being half full. Even more so - you need to organise getting pre-paid envelopes which is unsurprisingly difficult to find on their website.

I don't mind that having to buy my own cartridges. I think it's fair to expect to buy cartridges you use rather than use the freebies on the trial, but it is cheeky how it is very much hidden during the initial purchase.

Also, I have an issue with a company that shouts about sustainability, but when it comes to bottom line $$$, they don't care. I rung customer service up to question how can they claim sustainability success, when they are happy to waste ink as part of this trial, as well as the environment toll of sending me the pre-paid envelopes and me sending the ink bank to them.

Customer service was incredibly rude. They must get questions like this immediately as went straight to a script and tried to cut the call off early. The printer (HP Envy) has been good to me over the past 6 months, but this whole experience has genuinely made me regret buying from HP.

What kind of plug uses this charger?

I have this 65W HP USB-C charger, right now I use an HP cord that ends with a Shuko plug. I would like to change it and switch to a direct plug (like MacBook chargers use to do) without cable, either with a Shuko or an EU two-prongs plug. Asked HP support, but they didn't even reply to my question. Does it even exists? Seems like you can find North American direct plugs on ebay, but not EU ones.

P.S. Yeah, the standard cloveleaf plug does not fit in this.

HP is asking 14,000 for battery replacment

I went to a HP authorized store to replace my Victus battery. Which is turning into a pillow.
When asked for a replacement they casually quouted 14k for it including a general service which is 1.5k.

Is this the usual price for it?

Old Desktop Was Working Fine, Then 3F0 Error

I have an old HP PC from 2016 (I'm only using it because my laptop broke, that's a separate story). My family used to use it, but after they replaced it around 2020 it was wiped and sat unused for years. I started using it a few months ago, it's a bit slow but otherwise worked just fine. I mainly use it to browse the internet and edit word files, nothing more intense than Minecraft. It worked fine on Saturday. I closed everything and shut it down (not in sleep mode, shut down) when I was done. On Sunday, I started it and got the Boot Device not found 3F0 error. I followed the link presented: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3053911-2842957-16 and tried the first step: reset the BIOS. That didn't work. I have not tried the second option, updating the bios, because to be honest I know very little about computers and am afraid of breaking things. Instead I tried option 3, performing a hard drive system test (the website says "symptoms test" but I have never seen an option for that). I've tried quick, fast, and extensive tests for just the hard drive and the whole computer, including letting it loop until it finds an error overnight. Nothing. I've tried reinstalling windows, nothing (I'm trying to reinstall windows again rn, just in case something went wrong), specially the reinstall that doesn't wipe all the files.

I have a backup from march on an external hard drive but it's incomplete. I think data is recoverable and I know a place I can go in town to get the PC checked out and recover the data (that's where I took my laptop after I broke it), but this PC was meant to be used temporarily after my laptop broke before I had the money to buy a new PC later this year, I don't want to spend a bunch of maintenance fees.

Does anyone have any idea what to do? I could try updating the bios, though as I said I'm a little uncertain; I've never messed with the BIOS before. I'd like to avoid opening the computer up to try and fiddle with it physically; despite being a (civil) engineer, replacing a fan was how I fried my laptop, so I don't want to do the same to this desktop.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

how do I switch it to plain paper as default?

When I send a photo to my HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 series printer via wi-fi (using Photo app > Share > Print) it wants to print on glossy paper, and every single time I have to go to more settings, and turn it back to plain. It's such a nightmare to deal with :/

Does anyone know how to fix this?? It's getting super annoying having to do it every time I want to print something.

HP All-In-One 27-p011 doesn't boot from hard drive or USB.

I’m trying to troubleshoot an older HP all-in-one from around 2015 that will not boot from anything. I have swapped in two different hard drives, removed and reinstalled the CMOS battery, tried USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, and made bootable USBs with Windows, Arch Linux, and Linux Mint using both Rufus and Balena Etcher. None of the USB drives appear as boot options, and the system will not boot from the hard drive either. I even removed the hard drive completely and tried booting only from USB with no luck. BIOS still opens, but nothing actually boots. I also checked HP’s support page for a BIOS update, but the download appears to have been removed because the machine is old. At this point I’m wondering if this sounds like corrupted BIOS firmware, a motherboard failure, bad RAM, or some HP-specific issue. Has anyone dealt with this before or know any fixes?

Windows 11 HP Laptop Bios Update Broke PC

New bios update broke my hp laptop. At first I was able to use the computer after the bios update but it would get bsod crashes very often after few minutes of using it. Tried this method and when it was doing this bios recovery method @ 1:24 it said it failed and now my hp laptop keeps rebooting to two blue message screens saying bios corruption.

Please help me to fix this.

I have also done the usb flash drive format to fat32 and put the bios driver files in it, but my laptop keeps going into the two blue message screens and the caps lock does 3 long and 3 fast blinks.

First BSOD in less than a year

Hey peeps, I just bought an HP Omen 16 from officeworks (legit stationary franchise) last Feb and yesterday I experienced my first BSOD of Video TDR Failure despite only playing Ready or Not with a couple of restarts and OBS for recording (not streaming)

Now I'm worried as whether should I contact HP for further diagnostic testing and potential repair (it comes with warranty for hardware repair) or just leave it be.

I have ran furmark, sfc /scannow, DISM scanhealth, and based on the reliability viewer it showed BSOD and LiveKernelEvent.

Looking forward to any tips, thanks

Laptop wifi speed capped at ~100 Mbps on Windows, but gets full 150 Mbps speed on Linux (same laptop) and another android device

  • Laptop HP Pavilion Gaming 15 ec1016ax
  • Wi-Fi Card Realtek RTL8822CE (802.11ac / 2x2)
  • Windows 11
  • Router Huawei HG8145v5 5GHz network, ISP provided.

In Windows, my laptop refuses to negotiate past a 144 Mbps Link Speed (Wifi 4 802.11n) on my 5GHz network, which caps my actual download speed at around 100 Mbps. Meanwhile, my phone sitting right next to it gets a 350+ Mbps link speed (Wifi 5 802.11 ac) and pulls well over 150 Mbps down.

When I reboot the exact same laptop into Fedora Linux, the Wi-Fi pulls the full 150 Mbps.

I've updated the drivers that i found on Hp tech support forum from the old 2020 SP107515, 2023 SP144871, and 2025 SP162860. None of them fix the 144 Mbps Link Speed cap.

in driver properties > advanced > wireless mode option does not give the ac option. just 802.11 a/b/g.
