ODST Ready to Hot Drop

Finished up my first group of my ODST. These were a nice change of pace from the Spartans as they were mostly all the same with a few minor color changes.

Suggestions for dessert bases?

Hi everyone, I’m still new at this stuff and was wondering, how can I give more life to the bases and not just paint them one color. This specifically for the GOAT MC.

I was thinking just painting the base like a sand-dig color, but I want to bring some texture and more stuff o it, any advise on how to do it?

You can see what I’ve done with my ODST’s in the image.
Also, any advise to improve my MC is welcome

Stripped and repainted my Elites

Had to strip my Elites because they were all blue and it was annoying to have to look at their weapons to see which ones they were

With Noble Team launching and sending us back to Reach, I thought I would try my hand at a Reach themed basing for our Mark V [B] Spartans. (With instructions)

Reach has this gorgeous rugged and arid landscape coupled with that ever so subtle sepia inspired color palette in its drier regions and honestly it immediately grabbed me when I started thinking about how I wanted to base this Spartan.

Before I get into it I should be upfront that I don't personally believe in rebasing models, so all of this was done entirely on the original base model straight out of the box.

The Rocks

To match the terrain I started with the rocks. I took some old wine bottle corks and used the natural curvature already present in the material to perfectly accent the curve of the base which worked out really well. After snipping them down to size I superglued the cork pieces to the base and then brush primed everything using Army Painter brush on primer. Once that dried I applied their Dark Tone Wash to deepen the grey and push shadows down into all the cracks and crevices which gives the rocks a lot more depth right away.

From there I dry brushed in progressively lighter tones using Army Painter Uniform Grey, then Ash Grey, and finally a very light pass of Army Painter Company Grey on the highest points. After that I went in with tiny small dots using a generic brand Burnt Umber and wet blended it in to add just a touch of warm coloration to the rocks which really helps sell that Reach palette without being too on the nose about it.

The Ground

For the ground texture I used Monument Hobbies Pro Acryl brand Concrete Extra Fine basing texture. I want to note that I actually apply this before priming the rocks so everything has similar drying times and you aren't waiting around forever between steps. After spreading it out to the thickness and texture I wanted, I let it fully dry.

Once dry I mixed together Army Painter Burgundy Brown, Leather Brown, Prairie Ochre, and Wasteland Clay. I started by painting rough lines where I wanted each color to transition then went back in with wet blending to get this really nice layered and multishaded look across the ground. I kept the darker tones closer in around the base of the rocks. Remember that Reach especially in areas like Tip of the Spear is bone dry and dusty so leaning into those warm earthy tones really helps capture that feeling.

The Grass

Last up is the grass and for this I use Gamer Grass tufts because they are just so easy to place. Out in the real world you never have just one species of grass or shrubbery growing in a spot so I used two different types here. The larger pieces are Light Brown 6mm uniform patches which I pushed down into the crevices beneath the rocks and the smaller pieces are Tiny Dry Green 2mm tufts to fill in the smaller gaps and complement what the bigger grass patches are already doing.

Wrapping Up

All in all I am really happy with how this turned out. This Spartan genuinely looks like they are standing out on the frontlines of Reach ready to defend and call in an air strike at a moment's notice. My next post is going to be a proper visual step by step for anyone who wants to follow along more closely so stay tuned for that!

Hope you enjoyed checking this out and I hope this little guide helps anyone else trying to get some Reach vibes going on their bases especially with the new gaming mat dropping soon!

First Elite Done!

I wanted to experiment with Vallejo’s TMM colors, are there better paintjobs out there? Of course, but for my standards, I think he came out great.

So im a 40k player and just found this game. I need to get Noble squad to paint at the very least. But if i were interested in starting to play what all would i need that would get me going? I know in some games the starter sets are usually outdated fast is that the case here?

Got a chance to try noble team Vs the banished in BTB this weekend.

The map being larger really makes the games feel like they require more positioning and makes the weapons feel stronger.

Noble team was very fun to play with Kat and Jorge being the star players due to fast transition and being tanky.

Also the bigger board just looks so cool with all the terrain.

I posted these the other day, minus bases, but another member asked for individual photos of each of Noble team so I got the bases done and gathered them together for their photoshoot!
