GenRep is the man!

GenRep is the man!

I've been collecting reps for about 4 months. During this short period of time, I was fortunate enough to stumble across GenRep1755. David is personable, professional, has a wealth of knowledge and will gladly share that knowledge. He's just an all around good guy. As everyone knows, buying a rep for the first time can be pretty nerve racking and intimidating. He makes the purchasing process quick, simple and smooth. I've purchased 6 beautiful timepieces from him. All arrived in 2 days and all were as advertised. If you're just getting into reps, give him a shot. I promise you won't be disappointed.

QF is the factory to watch

Heads up:

If you’ve followed me for long, you may recall that I started saying a year ago that QF was the factory to keep an eye on. After Clean shut down, I reiterated that QF was the dark horse factory I’d bet on.

Why?

I had it on good authority that QF was flush with cash and investors at levels unlike any other factory, and that they were determined to become the Number 1 factory in this industry.

It’s been a year and that is starting to turn into a reality.

QF is coming out with amazing products. Their GMT line is solid. They don’t have the DD movement. They use by the SH3285, but the SH has been around a long time and has proven to be extremely dependable. And SH recently came out with their free sprung movement.

Watch this space: you’re going to start seeing a market place shift towards QF. They are just doing everything right. They are innovating in cool ways, such as recently coming out with the most gen-like oysterflx straps in the market, and their watches are solid.

Service Offering Update.

Had a customer share this watch with me. It completely self destructed. You can see that the seconds hand is bent, and specks of lume are all over the dial within the case.

He wasn’t looking when this happened. What a bummer as I’m sure it would have been fascinating to see. The seconds hand must have spun at light speed.

Best guess is that the main spring gave out and the full pent up power was unleashed at once.

This happened right at the 30 days mark and he’s covered by my warranty, but it does serve as an example that this kind of thing can happen.

I’ve noticed around a 3% defect rate. Approximately 3% of anything I send out ends up covered by my warranty. And this % has been amazingly consistent.

While this means that 97% of the time it’s smooth sailing, it’s a pretty disappointing experience 3% of the time.

Even more so if that happens to you outside of my warranty coverage period.

I’ve said it before and still believe it to be true: if something like this is going to happen, it’s most likely to happen within the first 30 days. If you get past the 30 day mark, that 3% error rate drops significantly.

Still - would be frustrating to be told you are outside of my 30 day coverage.

As such, effective immediately, I am extending my warranty to 60 days from time of arrival. If you are within your 30 day warranty period right now, congrats: you have my coverage for a full 60 days.

If you are already outside of your initial 30 day warranty, no worries: you are probably fine anyway, and you’ll have 60 days of coverage on your next purchase.

As always, repairs are slow when needed. I can’t help with the speed of the repair. So I continue to ask for your grace and patience during a repair, as all of the watch smith I’m aware of that service this community are very busy.

And there are warranty exceptions. If you ask me to special order you something from a factory I’m unfamiliar with, or uncomfortable with, I’ll probably tell you it’s a final sale with no warranty or return window.

But….as for “business as usual”, please know the GenReps warranty is now 60 days for new purchases.

As always, please message me on WhatsApp at +1.678.646.9796 for anything I can help with.

Purchased a m+ flamingo blue from GenReps awhile back. Service is top notch. Communication and prompt shipping with updates. You remove the trepidation of having to deal with customs and wait times if you're buying within his inventory.

I ended up modding mine so I don't have to deal with the eventual breakdown of the A7750 that's modded to hell and back. I had a A05.H31 movement laying around that needed to get back to work so despite the date setting inconvenience, I decided longevity, 60 hr power reserve and reliability was more attractive than waiting for the Chinese movement to break. Fun and frustrating project overall but satisfied in the end. Would 100% rather have used a SW510 but thx to tarriffs I am unable to source one for now. An eta 7753 was also on the table but I went with a bigger mainspring.

Genreps review and experience

I used to have a clean Daytona and sold it because I thought it didn't get enough wrist time. In almost a panic because of my immense impatience I reached out to the absolute goat of TDs it was at my door in a matter of days, a brand new VSF Daytona. I was so excited I ripped open the package to take a look and...

It wasn't the watch I QC'd, it was one stock number off and just a little bit different than the one I ordered and I wasn't very happy about it. I reached out to him and there was no excuses, no fighting, just quick and decisive problem solving. I ultimately decided to send it back but there was another problem, all the VSF were out of stock and I had to wait.

We went back and forth a bit, I decided I didn't actually want the VSF (I'm sure he was pulling his hair out dealing with me) and after I was done being impossible to please, I decided to change my order to a BTF Daytona(the one in the picture). With nothing but professionalism he explained that he would get one for me but I would have to wait while he sourced one, which I was fine with, and when it got here it was nothing short of exactly what I wanted.

I must say that after my experience with him I will never use another TD because he has unmatched professionalism and customer service. He was so pleasant to work with even when I was being overly demanding, responses were quick and timely and that shipping speed is a lifesaver for the impatient ones like me.

Customer services 11/5

Speed 5/5

Professionalism 5/5

Looks like I need to spell this out:

2 week window for returns:

This is primarily your opportunity for hands-on QC. This is your chance to thoroughly inspect the watch. Make sure you didn’t miss anything in photos. This is your chance to make sure that it’s a watch that you want to keep.

This period is also for any reason under the sun you decide that you don’t want to keep the watch.

No questions asked full refund if you opt to return it during the initial 2 weeks, as long as it’s still in the exact same condition it was received.

60 day warranty:

The idea of a warranty is for mechanical defects, not cosmetic issues that could have/should have been spotted during QC (including your 2 week “hands-on” inspection window). I can come up with a list of exclusions if it comes to it, but the bottom line is, don’t ask me to align a crystal that you have come to believe is misaligned, or a bezel is out of alignment and could have been rejected during QC. I won’t be fixing things under this warranty policy that are cosmetic that you find after the fact.

The warranty is intended to give you peace of mind that if the watch movement dies on you within your first 60 days of ownership, you aren’t stuck with a dead watch.

The warranty is not a license to lazy out of your own QC responsibilities, thinking if you miss something you have a 60 day warranty to get it fixed. That’s not how this will work.

And the warranty won’t cover physical damage.

Bottom line: I don’t want to have to spell out everything. Work with me here on the spirit of what I’m offering.

I’ve already had many of my long time customers reach out to me and express their concern that this will open Pandora’s box and it won’t end well. That I can expect to see abuse of these policies and people taking advantage of them.

We shall see. I hope not. But if that starts to happen, yeah, these policies will be shelved.

While it’s true that we sometimes have a frustratingly long wait when you’ve put your name on something on its way to me, the truth is, my “Expedited Shipping” folder changes almost daily. And often, a highly desired gem slips in and survives a day or two before being spotted.

Please note I always give the first heads-up of any arrivals on my WhatsApp channel. Had some VSF SD43’s that arrived today that lasted about 10 minutes. A great example of hot items that are often gone before I’d have a chance to share here on Reddit that they are available. Please consider subscribing to my WhatsApp channel:

Another great GR special (and why I value these reps 👍🏽)

Just recently picked up a VSF Bruce Wayne GMT from GenReps. And overall, great watch, overall finish, quality. I've handle the Gen watches at various Rolex ADs and see no obvious glaring flaws at a glance, etc...

But here's where IMHO, the true value of these high end reps exist...

For quite a while I've had a goal of owning one of the modern 6 digit ref Rolex GMT Master II models and having tried them on several times at stores thought they looked good and fit well for me. However over the last 1-2 years my preferred tastes in watch size have veered smaller and smaller.

I originally put in a request with my SA at my go to AD for Rolex (and other brands) for a BW almost 6 months ago and decided, whenever it arrives, that's fine with me.

I decided to pick up a VSF BW to do a planned Franken watch project (transplant a green Sprite GMT bezel onto the BW to match up with the green GMT hand).

I've had the VSF BW for about a week now and wearing it on/off on a daily basis and came to the slow realization that the modern 6 digit GMT Master II wears and looks a little too large for my current tastes now 🤔 Shortly after this I told my SA to cancel my request for the Gen GMT.

So this is why I'm grateful for these reps, for the relatively low cost of a little over $500 I get to trial a watch that I thought I really wanted in Gen form, but now I know if I spent $12k for the Gen piece, this size issue would have slowly nagged at me and turned into doubt and regret, where I'd have to play increasing mental gymnastics trying to convince myself I made the right purchase and push those doubts into some dark corner of my mind...

But for the relatively low price of the rep, I can be 100% honest with myself knowing I didn't have to spend gen money to learn this the hard way and can spend that $12k on a watch that I know I'd truly love (already have a couple other non Rolex options in mind) ❤️
