Frisco Chamber mayoral forum turns tense over Sharia law, rhetoric and city identity

The Frisco Chamber runoff forum between Mark Hill and Rod Vilhauer became one of the sharpest exchanges of the race so far. The discussion moved far beyond traffic and development and into debates over Sharia law, campaign rhetoric, public safety and the political direction of the city.

One of the more notable moments came when Vilhauer was asked to name a city council vote from the last year that he supported and did not identify one. The night also included exchanges over bankruptcy filings, undocumented worker allegations and claims involving CAIR support.

Does anyone else feel like making/maintaining friendships as an adult is oddly hard?

I have work friends I occasionally hang out with and college friends I still keep up with, but between work, relationships, kids, distance, schedules, etc. it feels so much harder to actually build consistent friendships as an adult.

Meanwhile some people seem to have these super solid friend groups and I genuinely don’t know how they do it!
I feel like everyone wants more community but it’s hard getting past the: “we should hang out sometime!” phase.

What kinds of social things do people in DFW actually enjoy showing up to these days? Personally I’m way more likely to go to things like:
coffee shops
trivia nights
brunch/happy hour
walks/pilates
local events/concerts
supporting local businesses/trying unique places

Would love to know if other people feel this way too.

Oh DAY-UM, we back on "WOKE PASTORS" again!

"Y'all didn't acknowledge Charlie Kirk and Trump in Butler to OUR LIKING, so we're condemning you!"

(The saddest thing about the modern conservative movement is that Charlie Kirk is not remembered as anything other than a meme or talking point for money now.)

For the "Oh, this looks like DC, why is this posted here???" crowd:

He is a pastor, former State Rep, local resident. His church has big influence in Tarrant GOP politics.

For the "we need a Ft. Worth politics sub" crowd:

Make one. For now, this sub has an audience and while I don't think it changes minds directly, it's still a way to reach people.

For the "I don't know who Mercy is, I just get my kids to their Wild Acre birthday party" group:

No doubt, as you should! But this stuff does matter, as under Trump 2.0 and O'Hare 1.5, they've become pretty powerful. If you want your kids' lives to be mostly untouched by governmental forces, I wouldn't necessarily vote D/lib, but I would consider getting rid of some of these clowns.

Happy Tuesday otherwise.

Is the person "after" us in the room right now, Richard?

This guy's early voting (Railroad Commissioner) starts today. His opponent is Jim Wright, the incumbent. The early voting goes through 5/22, also known as "Friday," and then there is a final chance to vote on 5/26. There are 37 early voting locations in this county, which you can find here.

Obviously there is a big "too much politics" crowd on this sub. I get it. I do. When I opened Reddit this morning, I had roofers, re-homed pets, questions about Alliance, and an Instagram reel from Colin County (why?). I only saw three political posts. But maybe you see more.

If you want a different version of Texas, even if regulated oil and gas doesn't seem to touch your life very much D2D, you need to avoid guys like Bo getting slots. That's all I'm saying. It doesn't mean you're a raging lib to not want one of the worst Tarrant County exports getting a statewide seat.

In 1947 the US Army made videos warning about white supremacist hate groups taking over America. Today we see the exact same rhetoric from Mercy Culture / For Liberty and Justice, True Texas Project, Patriot Mobile, and other fake-Christian ultranationalists trying to transfer wealth to billionaires

May 19th 5:30pm, Fort Worth ISD: Abbott's lackey state take-over board are expected to force 7th and 8th grade students to take Bible based curriculum, in violation of the US constitution and in abhorrent disrespect to the soldiers who have died to protect it.

Let's see how this goes ("Don't Santa Fe my Fort Worth!")

Full article.

In 2022 or so, I met a dentist in Tanglewood who had moved here in 2012. Between 2012 and 2022, he had never once been downtown. (He had kids, and youth sports don't tend to take place downtown.) I always thought that was WILD, but increasingly I've met tons of people who never go to Sundance, like ever. And it does make sense.

I wonder if this will change anything.

Alisa Simmons says Tim O'Hare and his lackeys threw away 1 million tax payer dollars and got nothing for it. When she brought it up they immediately shut down the discussion, extremely fearful that allowing transparency, accountability and freedom of speech might hurt them in the midterms soon.

There is nothing fiscally conservative about these people. They obsess on culture wars while looting the elderly out of their housing to give money to their fake-Christian ultranationalist cult network and the public wealth transfer to the billionaires. They are not conservatives. They're corrupt mobster regressives colluding together funded as different arms of the west oil billionaires fear mongering hate group. They use Jesus as their personal shield from the consequences of their hate speech.

Doesn't hiding things make it worse? They're terrified of losing power and can't think further than that in any given scenario:
