Time to pinch back Asters?

Second year with this garden and last year I waited too long and had minimal blooms. Everything I’m seeing is saying wait until June, but these are already getting super stringy and starting to flop.

Is it too early to pinch them back?

If not, what’s the best way to trim this many?

TIA!

Arborist gave me bad news and seeking thoughts since it’s all up to me now

North Texas.

100+ year old red oak is slowly becoming water logged. The dark moisture line is about 10% of the trunk down from this primary scaffold split. 2 years until it’ll give. Maybe sooner if we have an extreme summer.

Options outside of removal I was given:

- cut the leaning side when it’s the right time and keep the straight side, but risk is high

- wire the scaffold together and maybe seal both of the sections off to extend the time until they eventually needs to be cut

I’m hoping there might be other options, but based on past experience with red oaks, it’s either a slow or immediate issue.

Appreciate any and all feedback.
