16 year old, dream school Fordham HOW DO I GET IN

Ok, so like I said my DREAM COLLEGE is Fordham. I’m 16, and it’s always been my dream to go to Fordham, specifically Lincoln Center because I REALLYYY want to live right in the city. But I don’t know how to get accepted. I want to major in Media Studies or maybeee Psychology I haven’t decided, but most likely Media Studies or film. My grades have always been pretty good, Freshman year my weighted gpa was a 4.07 and this year, it’s been really hard mentally, just been dealing with a lot so my grades dipped to mostly Bs and a few As but I’m hoping to still get it up. Next year is when college classes and AP classes are available so I plan as taking at least 2 as a Junior and at least 2 as a Senior. Also my school requires 80 services hours just to graduate so I have that too. But ANYYY advice on how to get accepted would be amazing. I have a backup so if I don’t get Fordham I will also apply to PACE university, any thoughts on that?

BU vs. Fordham

I just go into BU off of the waitlist for neuroscience and I am currently committed to Fordham for biological sciences, but would prob switch into integrative neuroscience. I love nyc and I live really close to Boston. I value research opportunities, proximity to a hospital, strong academics, nice amenities (classrooms, dorms, dining halls), the ability to join clubs, like a "classic” campus feel, and prefer smaller class sizes which I know BU doesn’t have but I feel like once I get into major specific classes it would be better?? I am on the pre-med track too btw. I have not received financial aid info from BU yet so, financials aside, I’d love to hear what people think. Also for reference I currently go to a large public school that some compare to a prep school. I am so torn!

Hi everyone,

You are recommended to take part in the 'AI Use in College Learning Survey.' This study will help us learn more about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in your college learning process and the role that these tools shape your academic experiences.

This research is being conducted with a professor in Ocean County College.

This survey is voluntary; if you decide to take part in this survey, you will be asked to answer eighteen (18) questions (17 multiple-choice questions and one short response question), which will take around 10-15 minutes to complete.

You can find the survey here:

- By clicking this link AI Use in College Learning Survey, to access it directly.

- By copying and pasting this URL https://forms.gle/ZubsCJabNRVLpVhA7.

If you are not currently enrolled in any college or university, then you are not advised to take part in this survey. Nevertheless, you are encouraged to share this survey with an eligible respondent.

Before responding here are some important things to note before attempting the survey.

The questions included will be related to:

  • Your academic background (only includes your age group, academic level, and area of study)
  • Frequency of AI tools used and which tools you use
  • Uses of AI in your academic studies
  • Your opinions about the use of AI tools in learning and academic achievements
  • View about academic integrity and concerns related with the use of AI tools

Please note that:

  • All data you provided will be kept confidential and will not identify you in any way.
  • Only information related to your age, academic level, and your major will be collected.
  • Information including your email, name, gender, where you study, and other sensitive information will not be collected.
  • The software 'Google Forms' will require you to sign in for you to complete the survey; we will not collect your email addresses.
  • You have the option to skip certain questions and leave the survey at any time you want, and there will be no consequences for you if you decide not to answer the questions.
  • You will not be entered into any draws for prizes. There is no financial incentive to complete this survey.

We appreciate your time and cooperation.

Regards,

A student from Ocean County College

How cooked am I?

So…I just completed my junior year of Highschool and my grades so far are rocky, but not TOO terrible. Here’s some info about me so please let me know if I have a good enough chance at Fordham, Howard, Pace, and UTK(in state)

I’m not sure what my GPA is as of right now. Overall year wise (so not quarter or semester grades) I had all B’s and one D freshman year, 3 A’s, 2 B’s and 1 D sophomore year, and 4 A’s, 1 B, and 1 C junior year. My A’s mainly but not primarily, stem from my 5 AP courses, and I feel pretty good about the exams I’ve taken. I know one of my AP’s(euro) is a 4. ALL my D’s come from math subjects, and my C also comes from math. I know it’s bad. I ended my second semester of junior year with a C in Spanish 3 honors. I am certain my GPA is at least a 3.3 unweighted, though. My ACT score is a 23, but I am studying extremely hard for the June one and October one for at least a 32. Here’s some s yrs stuff about me below…

Demographic:
I’m an African American woman, HIGH income family, so not seeking any financial aid within the schools(probably outward scholarships).

Was diagnosed with major depressive disorder in the 9th grade and had an attempt. Recorded by my therapist, and have a 504 plan within my school. I want to make sure the colleges know I do not pity myself, and that I am ready for college.

My extra curricular’s include:

a job at my local thrift store

An internship at my cities bar association (highly selective)

Attended the School of New York Times for two consecutive years (not very competitive, but demonstrates my interest in writing and law)

Over 50 volunteer hours (in my schools Honor Academy, NOT nhs, but values volunteer work, and I have to do a capstone)

My two friends and I package ziplock bags full of amenities for homeless people around our city and pass them out. We take donations of blankets, deodorants(new), toothbrushes/toothpaste, and more. We also include a card full of local places for them to help get back on their feet with addresses included.

Application starters:
I’m getting three letters of recommendation. One from my standard environmental science teacher, one from my AP English language and composition teacher, and one from my AP us history teacher. Ended all these classes with a mid to high 90 average. I’m most confident in the environmental science and AP Lang recommendation letters as I do exceptionally well in those classes.

I am talking to my local admissions counselor at Fordham University on Thursday about the school and my grades, and hopefully will be able to get around to explaining my freshman and sophomore year D’s. The C in Spanish 3 honors this year has no valid excuse, though, and the C in pre-cal just comes from me being terrible at math. I’m hoping that talking to him shows my interest and also gives me a little leeway to still having a shot. Even though small, I have had growth.

My essay is going to be about my mom and our relationship and how she’s instilled foundations in me that told me I’m ready for bigger things, further pushing me to do my best.

I’ve visited the Howard, UTK, and Fordham Campuses and loved them both, but Fordham was not an official tour. I stayed on the campus for two weeks for my New York Times program.

Yeah…so basically I’m not looking for any financial aid within the schools nor am I applying for a FASFA. I’m most worried about Fordham and Howard, but I’d love if you guys could help me out!

Would my own income hurt my Fordham financial aid?

Hi I’m thinking about applying to Fordham for Fall 2027 and I wanted to see if anyone has been in a similar situation financially.

I moved to the U.S. about two years ago as a permanent resident after finishing high school in my home country (El Salvador). Since coming here, I’ve been working full time to help support my household (just me and my mom). Last year our income was around $53k total, but most of it was my income (~$40k) while my mom made around $12k. We don’t have assets or property.

I’m worried that the money I earned as the student could affect my financial aid package or eligibility for good need-based aid. Has anyone had experience with something similar at Fordham or other private universities? Also, I was an average student academically in high school abroad, so I’m mostly wondering how realistic generous aid might be in my situation.

Fordham LC or BU as a transfer

Hi everyone! I am sophomore transfer student studying English. I got into LC last month and got decent amount of money. But I recently got accepted to Boston University with not as much aid but no matter what every school is expensive. I really want to go to both schools and I’ve talked to a bunch of students about both and everyone has said the same things. I originally started out at a huge public university in a very cliquey program and thought that Fordham LC would work out since I could meet other transfers. But after going to virtual meeting for transfers and hearing how small it actually is, I’m starting to question if it’s right for me. I know both schools have their issues but I have to make a decision soon so any advice is needed:)

Fordham vs Temple

Fordham will cost about twice as much. Both are urban though NYC a lot more expensive. Have the college savings but Fordham will deplete with nothing left for grad school. Is the reputation and college experience worth it?

Is dorming worth it? Please help

I applied to loyola already, i even found 2 potential roommates. But the more i think about dorming, the more I feel like I shouldn’t. I REALLY want to for the experience, but i don’t think it’s worth it to be put in an extra $30k of debt. I know it seems selfish to even assume I wouldn’t but I only found out im paying for the entirety of my college tuition a month ago. I don’t live so far, just 30 minutes away, so im not sure what to do.

grades still not posted

I am still waiting for a professor to post the final grade. It's not on Blackboard, DegreeWorks or the section that shows GPA (forgot what it's called). No messages from the teacher explaining the delay. Is this typical? This class is the only one not to report yet. Thank you. (freshman)

UCI or Fordham

I’m having trouble deciding between Fordham and UCI. I’m an international student who got into Finance for Fordham, and Business Administration for UCI. I’m planning to follow a career path as a financial analyst, probably in New York. I know Fordham has an advantage being in NYC, but I’m also considering the school advantage of UCI and considering transferring to NYU next year. Any advice on the pros and cons of each would be good! Thanks!

Should I go to Fordham?

Hi guys, I’m currently a junior in high school and I’ve been creating a list of schools I’m gonna apply to, and Fordham is at the top of my list. I’m not sure if it would be a good fit though, so I was wondering if anyone who goes there/went there could lmk if you think it would fit me well.

Some info about me: I go to an alternative high school where we take local community college classes along with regular hs classes, so I already have some college experience. I live in California and come from a middle class family. There’s six of us total, and my older sister already goes to a very expensive private college, so money is definitely a factor for me. My parents would be paying for my school, and I’d feel awful if they spent all that money and it ended up not being worth it. We make too much to qualify for FAFSA or most financial aid, but not enough where paying full price at Fordham, especially out of state, would be easy.

I’m not fully sure what I want to major in yet, but I’ll probably do psychology, sociology, or social work. I’m also really interested in study abroad programs. I’m hoping to work in the mental health field in the future, like being a social worker, therapist, or addiction counselor, and I’m curious about the opportunities being in NYC could provide. I come from a pretty suburban part of California, so moving to a city like NYC would be a huge change for me. I visited NYC last summer and completely fell in love with the city though. I’m more introverted and struggle to make friends and I’m not really the party type, and I love all kinds of art, theater, and music. I honestly just want to get away from the culture of where I live right now. Everyone here feels like a robot and only cares about working in tech or making AI startups. That’s one of the reasons I’m so interested in NYC, because there’s so much culture, life, and diversity.

I honestly just want to experience a new city, meet new people, and start all over.
I’m also wondering if I should do a year at community college first and then transfer to Fordham after that, so if anyone here is/was a transfer student, lmk what your experience was like!

Which language course is the easiest?

I want to get all A's my freshman year, and want to take the easiest language course possible. The options are Ancient Greek, Arabic, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. I took Spanish in high school, but did not do well, so I don't plan on continuing in college. What other languages do you recommend?
