Vintage Cazal 642
I'm a Cazal junkie! They're the brand that got me to love glasses and define my style perfectly. I especially love the Cazal 642. Before Cazal retroed them they were one of the most expensive (og colors still fetch a high price) and hardest to find models.
That just adds to the lore the giant frame, amazing green-brown amber acetate, and gold plated rim makes them stand out like nothing else in my collection. Plus now that I'm older I look like a cool dad when I'm out doing nothing lol. So happy that I was able to get all the original colors over my time collecting.
Are there any prrogressive lenses without 'hidden' positioning markers?
Hey everyone, last year I had my first set of progressive (and astigmatism) lenses made at the Jacques Marie Mage boutique. The lenses have very visible positioning markers at the 3 and 9 O'clock position (ABC, F, X, O). Mostly I can ignore them but at night, especially when driving they are very visible and extremely annoying because they scatter light and create halos. The tech at JMM said not to worry and I'd get used to it but it's been almost a year and not getting better.
So my question, are there any lens makers that dont use these positioning marks on progressive lenses for people with Astigmatism? Cost isn't as much a factor for me as getting the best lenses I can. Thanks very much
New sunglasses! Zeiss burgundy gradient on JFRey frame
I’m really happy with this new pair I received yesterday. This JFRey frame came with a mauve insert on the branches, and I thought it would be nice to have a similar tint for the sunlens. This is Zeiss Digital Smartlife Individual with a 90-40% burgundy gradient tint. The store did not have samples so I was a bit anxious as to whether this was the right choice, but I think it works!
MASUNAGA MOC 005 A - Tint ideas
Had something really special arrive today.
MASUNAGA MOC 005 A - No. 45.
Had been looking to get a piece from Masunaga at some point, but wanted something that represented the Japanese craftsmanship the brand is known for even more than its other pieces.
Add to that, growing up, my Father owned a burgundy BMW 5 Series in which I made so many core memories, the colour of which has become one of my favourites, just behind purple, though one I find much easier to fit into my wardrobe.
To me, this frame does it all. The colour is, I think, now iconic to the MOC series, it's unique, and perfect for me. It's beautifully made, and feels it on the face. Despite being a large frame, it wears nicely; it doesn't come off as too bold like the black or navy, and is well balanced.
Now it's just the lenses left to complete the piece. The knee jerk reaction is Zeiss Burgundy. I have it in another frame, and I love it, both in how it looks and how it is to look through. That said, I think I want to keep these a bit more formal, as well as easier to wear and pair on any occasion. Additionally with the burgundy being such a lovely colour, I don't think I want a tint to detract from that, complimentary or matching.
The conclusion (a bit boring perhaps, I know) provisionally is Zeiss Black 25% gradient with DV Plat. A colour neutral tint, that's plenty light for day to night use. It won't add much, but neither will it clash or compete with the burgundy of the frame. I'm thinking all it will really do is add a subtle shadow to the eye and soften the contrast between the skin and frames as well as provide a slightly more comfortable viewing experience. The DV Plat will add a subtle contrasting hue, but not be as intrusive as a flash coating.
That said, I've seen some bolder combinations with this frame that also look great, despite not necessarily alligning with my preferences.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thinking about trying tinted lenses… where do I even start?
I’ve been seeing more people wear lightly tinted lenses and I kinda want to try it, but I have no idea what I’m doing.
Main things I’m confused about:
- Is there a “safe” color to start with for everyday use?
- What % tint is actually wearable indoors without feeling like you’re in sunglasses all day?
- Do certain tints mess with color perception or get annoying over time?
I’d mostly wear them for normal day-to-day stuff, nothing super specific.
If you’ve gone down this path, what did you wish you knew before your first pair?
Black frame tints
Hi - anyone got any examples of black acetates with a base tint and or photochromic? I’m thinking possibly emerald green but would love to see a range of colours and you guys always have the coolest picks! Ta :)
Tanabiku | Fiji | Clear Green
This one is particularly special. Amazing presence and beautiful details. Beautiful thick 10mm acetate. Tear drop wellington shape with television cut detailing. Thick temples and lovely end caps. Lovely presentation with a Shironameshi leather case and Wooden presentation box.
New colortouch base tint transitions just arrived!
New transitions color touch
Just reposting the blue which arrived yesterday and adding the Essilor amber Colortouch wash (base tint), with first impressions (some repeated, some answering questions I had yesterday on another thread when I only had the blue):
To start: the transitions Colortouch range comes in 5 colours (the Essilor fashion transitions S colours, ie Ruby, amethyst, emerald and these two) in either a wash or gradient. I have amber wash (here in Masunaga 100’s) and sapphire wash in TVR 504 champagne.
Initial thoughts:
\- they seem to be around 25% base tint. Wearing these two colours the blue was imperceptible to me visually, the amber had a slight and pleasant warming and contrast enhancing effect at 25%.
\- these will definitely suit wire or rimless frames. The test for me was whether they’d work with thicker acetate. The blue I swapped from near black to champagne crystal and it looked a lot better. The Amber I think works with the frames which grade black to Brown.
\- in the photos outside the blue wasn’t fully activated as it was overcast yesterday, the amber was probably pretty close to fully activated but sometimes they take a few days to get into full function.
\- if the GRADIENT base tint (not seen this in real life) starts at 25%, as it looks to in marketing photos, then it will be extremely subtle. The wash is already quite subtle - though I think it will be more obvious in rimless or thin metal frames.
I LOVE the effect of the amber in wash base and when activated - definition is great and it has a perceptible if small warming effect even at 25%. The Blue is less obvious until activated at least for my eyes.
I’m pretty happy with these - I won’t wear every day but they are nice additions to use when I feel like it. I could live in the Amber wash quite happily I think, as I like colours to pop when outside or just looking outside (ie increased contrast). The blue is probably more of a fashion look, but pleasantly cooling and clear in the sun.
P.s. as they use the same transitions S tech, they change to dark in 30 seconds, and back in about 2 minutes - same as any other transitions or Zeiss Photofusion X.
Chrome Hearts Vertical Smile ll
Hi again,
this is my latest pickup at CH Taipei this one was at Zhongshan if anyone cares (both stores are hella dry) after i decided against the Pills ll for now, i decided to go with something else, these ones i chose literally within 2min even the staff was surprised.
Don’t ask for the price it was ridiculous even for Chrome Hearts standards i know in the US they are cheaper but i just don’t go there so this is kinda my only option.
Might update with a fitpic once prescription is done, if anyone cares.
The default lenses are super bad by the way, they reflect like hell just the logo is kinda cool.
Desperate search for a vintage frame!
Hello all,
I need to find the Façonnable NV145 frames, in any color, anywhere in the world. I am emailing stores in the US, in the Netherlands and France but I can't find these frames. Do any of you know of a place where I could find them? I understand they were produced about 20 years ago.
Thank you all for your help!
Your opinions on Transitions Color Touch lenses??
Does anyone have them or have you tried them? I'd be interested in your thoughts on whether they're worth it?
non-RX Photofusion Burgundy and Duravision Gold?
I’m considering going back to wearing contacts most of the time. My prescription is now in the -9 range, and honestly there’s nothing I can add to the lens that approaches the visual qualities of wearing contacts.
I’ve heard photochromic treatments aren’t as effective on high index lenses, so I’m hoping if I get a nonprescription lens with photofusion Burgundy and Duravision Gold for protection and AR, I’d be set.
Is it true Trivex has the best Abbe value while polycarbonate has the worst? What’s the best Zeiss (I assume it has to be Zeiss)lens option for this setup?
Thanks
Akoni Swift - Zeiss duravision gold
I tried the Zeiss duravision gold on this Akoni frame. I thought it would look cool with the frame. It's Super hard to photograph the gold reflection though. but yeah, so far it's not bad.
Tint or photochromic on silver frame…indecisiveness 😟
I got this frame a few weeks back but have not decided on prescription lenses yet.
As it is a silver frame, and "cooler" colors are generally recommended so I'm thinking the color on the left side (diff. To describe purple ish). I have ruled out the warmer color on the right.
So options...:
the purple-ish color fixed tint at either 25 or 35% (solid or gradient...).
or zeiss photofusion x blue
... ?
My hesitation with photochromic is that I already have 2 pairs and feel like a fixed tint may be a better addition to my small collection (and more budget friendly).
Note that I am in Japan so there's somewhat limited options with colors (e.g. no tint + photochromic and no zeiss duravision flash). Only recently, literally this month, Nikon released a tint + transitions option but I have a bias for Zeiss..
