New colortouch base tint transitions just arrived!
New transitions color touch
Just reposting the blue which arrived yesterday and adding the Essilor amber Colortouch wash (base tint), with first impressions (some repeated, some answering questions I had yesterday on another thread when I only had the blue):
To start: the transitions Colortouch range comes in 5 colours (the Essilor fashion transitions S colours, ie Ruby, amethyst, emerald and these two) in either a wash or gradient. I have amber wash (here in Masunaga 100’s) and sapphire wash in TVR 504 champagne.
Initial thoughts:
\- they seem to be around 25% base tint. Wearing these two colours the blue was imperceptible to me visually, the amber had a slight and pleasant warming and contrast enhancing effect at 25%.
\- these will definitely suit wire or rimless frames. The test for me was whether they’d work with thicker acetate. The blue I swapped from near black to champagne crystal and it looked a lot better. The Amber I think works with the frames which grade black to Brown.
\- in the photos outside the blue wasn’t fully activated as it was overcast yesterday, the amber was probably pretty close to fully activated but sometimes they take a few days to get into full function.
\- if the GRADIENT base tint (not seen this in real life) starts at 25%, as it looks to in marketing photos, then it will be extremely subtle. The wash is already quite subtle - though I think it will be more obvious in rimless or thin metal frames.
I LOVE the effect of the amber in wash base and when activated - definition is great and it has a perceptible if small warming effect even at 25%. The Blue is less obvious until activated at least for my eyes.
I’m pretty happy with these - I won’t wear every day but they are nice additions to use when I feel like it. I could live in the Amber wash quite happily I think, as I like colours to pop when outside or just looking outside (ie increased contrast). The blue is probably more of a fashion look, but pleasantly cooling and clear in the sun.
P.s. as they use the same transitions S tech, they change to dark in 30 seconds, and back in about 2 minutes - same as any other transitions or Zeiss Photofusion X.
