MASUNAGA MOC 005 A - Tint ideas
Had something really special arrive today.
MASUNAGA MOC 005 A - No. 45.
Had been looking to get a piece from Masunaga at some point, but wanted something that represented the Japanese craftsmanship the brand is known for even more than its other pieces.
Add to that, growing up, my Father owned a burgundy BMW 5 Series in which I made so many core memories, the colour of which has become one of my favourites, just behind purple, though one I find much easier to fit into my wardrobe.
To me, this frame does it all. The colour is, I think, now iconic to the MOC series, it's unique, and perfect for me. It's beautifully made, and feels it on the face. Despite being a large frame, it wears nicely; it doesn't come off as too bold like the black or navy, and is well balanced.
Now it's just the lenses left to complete the piece. The knee jerk reaction is Zeiss Burgundy. I have it in another frame, and I love it, both in how it looks and how it is to look through. That said, I think I want to keep these a bit more formal, as well as easier to wear and pair on any occasion. Additionally with the burgundy being such a lovely colour, I don't think I want a tint to detract from that, complimentary or matching.
The conclusion (a bit boring perhaps, I know) provisionally is Zeiss Black 25% gradient with DV Plat. A colour neutral tint, that's plenty light for day to night use. It won't add much, but neither will it clash or compete with the burgundy of the frame. I'm thinking all it will really do is add a subtle shadow to the eye and soften the contrast between the skin and frames as well as provide a slightly more comfortable viewing experience. The DV Plat will add a subtle contrasting hue, but not be as intrusive as a flash coating.
That said, I've seen some bolder combinations with this frame that also look great, despite not necessarily alligning with my preferences.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.
