Tusker Salary Sacrifice scheme
Hi, does anyone have any experience with the Tusker EV scheme. They've just introduced it at my work, but it seems expensive. I thought these schemes were supposed to be an incentive. Any thoughts or advice welcome.

I believe an electric vehicle would be absolutely perfect for us. Most days motoring consist of multiple 10-20 minute trips urban very little of it above 30mph. The odd motorway trip of 1-2hrs at most every few weeks. 6 -7,000 a year total miles. We have a drive, aren’t on a looped supply and have a 100 amp main fuse so getting a charger should be easier. We even have outside sockets so can trickle charge for a month or two if required.
After 20 years of driving various manual diesels that’s the normal car in her head. She also seems to associate automatic cars with slow cars old people would drive and doesn’t like them. Have tried to explain the instant torque, one foot driving, regenerative brakes but not making any progress.
Looking at Cupra Borns, ID4’s similar so not exactly basic slow car.
So any real world experiences from switching or advice to help me convince her?
Hi all,
I know this has been covered to death - and I've read a lot of the tips (dont charge above 80% or fall below 20%, slower charging is better for battery health) but was wondering if there was anything else for my specific circumstances... I'm also having a bit of a panic given I've never owned an EV before and am picking one up in the next few weeks!
So, my situation... about to pick up a new Renault 4, which I believe is an NMC battery, after my very old Corsa finally gave up the ghost. I live in London UK, I don't drive for a commute but do short drives once or twice a week for the food shop (5 mile round trip) or going out to Epping Forest or similar (~10 mile round trip). About once every 2 months I do a long round trip for work (anywhere from 150 to 350 mile round trip), and 3 or 4 times a year we drive down to the south west to see my folks (~500 mile round trip). We can't charge at home yet but have cheap public chargers at the end of our road (22kwh but I believe the R4 doesn't have accept 22kwh AC charging so would be charging at the 11kwh max instead).
Given the car will often only do a few miles a week between the longer trips, should I try to charge to around 50% usually then only top up when I've got a longer trip/get to around 20% battery to avoid it sitting with a higher level of charge for a while? How important is it to avoid charging to 100% in reality? I know LFP batteries can take it more than NMC but is it really as bad as some people suggest? And will charging at the public chargers, as opposed to slower home charging affect the battery much? Hoping to keep the car/battery going as long as we can!
Is there anything else I should consider?
Thanks all and sorry for having a pre-EV panic!
Just looking to get feedback from people that currently have a Frontera 54kw, what kind of range do you get and any issues? I do not need comments saying how bad stellantis is - it's a company car, and isn't a choice to get a different make.
Hi all,
Currently have an old diesel as our second car and want to replace it, as we've switched the family car to EV and now have a home charger.
Partner doesn't like the unique or 'quirky' look of some of these EVs, so wanted to ideally go for a understated subtle EV - such as the e-Golf.
I've seen many posts about its good reliability but that the range is much to be desired - however for our use case, circa 100-150 miles is good enough. This car would only be used for errands, partner commuting and just flexibility when the other car is in use with the kids/baby seat.
We don't want to spend any more than 8-12k and i think the key thing here is something thats cheap, cheerful and reliable!
Other possible contenders are the renault zoe (but ive read the crash test is very poor and there is risk of motor issues at post 40k miles) and the e-corsa. Could possibly try to argue for the ID3 but have been told it ugly (i think it looks nice).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Looking to move to an ev. Two adult family with small dog so size of all would suit and would get a charger fitted at home. 40 mile commute 3 or 4 times a week with 240 mile round trip maybe twice per month but plenty of opportunities to recharge at the mid point. Looking at spending about £23,500 and looks like I can get a EX30 Plus, or maybe Ultra, BMW xLine or an Ioniq Ultimate. Any help deciding appreciated.
My MG4 ER is currently pulling around 4 miles per kwH now the sun has come out and outdoor temperature is about 13/14C. If that was maintained would be looking nearly 300 miles of range and close to WLTP.
That's based on a commute under 10 miles and all with a 30MPH speed limit. At weekends though it is the family car and gets used for longer and faster journeys. Motorway does hammer it and can bring it down to around 3.2-.3.5 depending on how I drive it and conditions.
... and I think it's fair to say it's not much of a looker.
On the specs front, it's a little quicker than the recently revealed BMW i3, but is significantly down on range. While BMW claims 560 miles to a charge in official tests, the C-Class tops out at 473 - even accounting for the slightly smaller battery, that's not great. Nor does it charge up as quickly.
Inside, the highlight (or not, depending on how much of a technophile you are) is the vast 39.1-inch Hyperscreen that'll be available on top models. I've used this setup in the GLC Electric and though it looks a bit daunting, it works fine - I certainly wouldn't worry about paying any extra for it, though, and I don't much like how it turns the dash into a cliff-face.
Build quality is decent, especially compared to Merc's current line-up which creak like a sailing ship when you go prodding about various bits of trim. And I love the frunk, which operates with just a press on the Mercedes logo - no need to root about in a footwell.
So what do you think? Would you opt for this over the BMW i3 - or is there something you'd buy instead of either of them?
My best friend has just purchased a new Tesla. He is willing to sell me his Old Tesla, Tesla 2019 Model 3 long range. 88k miles. It has the full self driving option.
What is a fair price for us both? He has never done any suspension work in the 88k miles. It also has various scratches and a dent on the boot lid. The front bumper needs a complete respray, where it has been damaged and scratched. All 4 of the alloys have been kerbed. The MOT is due in 4 months, and has both brake disks as an advisory on the last MOT. He says that 100% fully charged range is about 230ish miles.
WBAC Value in perfect condition: £9310
Motorway Value in perfect condition: £11,400
What would be a fair value for both me and my best friend?
Also considering the cost of suspension + brakes + bodywork into the price.
I want it to be fair for him (friend discount not taking the mick), but also not overpaying for a car that needs some work.
What would you value it at realistically in the UK market?
Hi all,
Never had an electric vehicle before and Nino very little about cars, this is shortlist for my company vehicle.
My commute to work is not 50mi total. So the extended range is not a huge requirement.
I plan to get a home charger installed to so any advice here would also be nice
Looking for a bit more of larger SUV type.
Which one would you pick?
Edit to add: budget covers all of these, the BIK cost is the average price across the cars lifetime.
I’m currently looking for a city car under £6k and a few EVs have found their way onto my searches.
I’m pretty confident in buying ICE cars but not EVs.
What should I be looking for?
Any models you recommend?
FYI - on street parking with the option to charge at home.
Hi, I will soon be purchasing an used EV car for driving around London and some motorway use. I love driving a nippy small car and have no need for a bigger one. Please share your recommendations for a compact EV car with low insurance.
My ideal spec would be 1 or 2 years old, mileage under 20k, long battery warranty, 3 doors (or small 5 door hatchback) with heated front seats and massage/adjustable lumbar support options, but I’m struggling to find the latter in a compact car.
I’ve looked at Renault 5 e-tech, Fiat 500 E, Toyota C-HR+, and Mini Cooper SE. Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe appear too big for me, but maybe I need to face the fear of driving a bigger car. I didn’t like the suv style of Citroen e-C3. Thank you.
Got to pick a new company car... To be honest I am not really inspired by any of them, but the car list is limited. Which would you choose & why?
From the company car list, I have narrowed it down to this shortlist:
Mercedes GLB
Audi Q4
Lexus RZ
Volvo EX40
Got kids & dogs, so boot space is important, commute is about 70 miles a day, got a home charger...
Hi, I’m currently exploring my options for a new car. I live in a flat in Zone 3 London, I drive a compact petrol car, no designated parking spot, I just park on the street where it is free (usually 10 mins walk away). I was considering a plug in hybrid car, but I’m interested in an electric car now. I’ve done some research, read that it’s best if you can home charge, which won’t be possible for me, I will rely on public charging. Plenty of public charging points close to me (Believ, Shell Ub, Totalenergies).
On average, I drive once or twice a week in the city, usually take the North circular ring road (40 miles). I also visit family once a month in Liverpool (420 miles return trip) via motorway.
Question: is it worth it or cheaper for my driving lifestyle compared to petrol, given the higher upfront costs and lack of home charging?
Hi all,
Looking to pick up my first EV and trying to keep the budget around £15k max (used market).
My rough requirements:
Not sure how realistic those are at this budget though, especially for decent spec / mileage.
From what I’ve seen, older options like Leaf etc are well within budget but seem a bit limited on range unless you get newer versions .
A couple of questions:
For context, this would be mostly commuting + occasional longer trips, and I should be able to install a home charger.
Appreciate any advice 👍
Just signed for a 4 month old, ex-demonstrator Skoda Elroq 60 Sport-line! First ever EV so a little nervous but really excited!
It’s the 63kw Sportline in Velvet Red, with heat pump, upgraded 21” alloys, electric tow bar and Advanced Pack. 5000 miles. Paying £29600 - is this a reasonable price?
Also, any tips/tricks to get the most out of the car? Thanks in advance! 👍
