Got my Grizzl E installed today, connected and already making Money 💰 just a small test, but have set up scheduled charging for off-peak times at home, and left the car's setup open so I don't run the risk of family members not remembering if a schedule is active while out and about! And already got my refund of the Grizzl E!
Whether people agree with the philosophy or not, I am part of the now-often-mocked “elbows up” crowd and am trying to back up my personal beliefs with consumption choices. Since my next vehicle will be an EV and is likely to be the single biggest product purchase in my life, I’d like to avoid contributing to the US economy as much as practically possible - though there is a limit to the premiums I am prepared to pay when it comes to the boycott. And in relation to a vehicle, simply doing without isn’t a realistic option. Since there isn’t a Canadian made EV on the horizon, I am wondering about non-US options. I know the globalized marketplace makes some of these ownership conglomerates a bit of a grey area, but I am starting by thinking of foreign-owned manufacturers like Nissan, Subaru, Volvo, etc.
Wondering about suggestions that avoid US contributions as much as possible. Thanks
We been driving an EV for 9 months now and I must say, it's one of the best vehicle decisions we ever made. We had a level 2 charger installed at home, we charge when we need to, and it's glorious. So much so that my wife also got herself an EV a couple of months ago.
Before all this, we were spending hundreds of dollars a month on gas. Now we're spending less than $70 between us.
90% of EV buyers say they will never buy a gas car again. It's not just hype because gas is expensive at the moment. They have seen the light. And, by the way, the gas vs. electricity math works in favor of EVs even with pre-war gas prices.
If you're in the market for a car, do yourself a favor and look into whether an EV works for you.
I was comparing some Kia models to other cars we are looking at and long story short the dealer was basically saying he was giving me a "smoking deal" on a 2025 Niro for $50k+GST. I wasn't really interested in the Niro but he said he would give me a deal I couldn't refuse if I'd consider it.
Full MSRP on that car is about $45k out the door.
I was considering an ev5 or maybe even waiting for the 3 but I walked out laughing when he said $5k over the full website price is a deal for a car he admitted has been sat on his lot for months unsold.
He was trying to make out no one is paying MSRP for Kia or anything. The sales sleeze was worse than a Dodge dealer. He even argued the Niro isn't eligible for evap with his dealer added packages.
I've bought about 25 cars in the last 5 years, mainly Toyota, and not paid over MSRP once. For a budget brand like Kia I'd be expecting discounts not premiums.
I’m not looking for anything above 25k CAD. I’ve found quite a few around the 18k mark but I’m unsure what to look out for in used EVs.
Hey everyone!
With EVAP back, manufacturer discounts, and a flood of new entrants this year (EV4, EV5, refreshed Leaf, bZ, Solterra, new Bolt, Equinox EV, etc.), OTD pricing is all over the place vs MSRP. Hard to tell where the real sweet spots are.
If anyone's recently bought or has a serious live quote, would love to hear:
- Make / model / trim
- OTD price (after taxes + all fees, after EVAP)
- Dealer + province
- Finance APR / lease rate / cash
- Any extra discounts stacked

"Honda Motor is set to freeze plans to build an electric vehicle factory in Canada, Nikkei has learned, as sluggish U.S. demand pushes it to put hybrids at the center of its North American strategy.
The Japanese automaker had decided in May last year to postpone by two years construction of the plant and an accompanying battery factory in Ontario. Their plans were first announced in April 2024 and were originally slated to start up as early as 2028.
Seeing market conditions as unlikely to improve in the short term, Honda decided to indefinitely suspend the project, and has entered talks with the Canadian government. Scrapping it entirely is on the table, depending on how North American EV policies move."
Truly an incredible failure by Honda.
For the small number of of people here that still care about Tesla EVs...
Is it worth it to do this? I'm planning on buying a used EV at some point. The prices and selection seem to be far greater in Quebec. I've never owned a car before though so I'm not sure about all the fees involved and if it would still be worth it.
For more context, I'm hoping to get something under $20k. Right now I'm thinking about the following options: Pre-2023 Kona EV, Bolt EV, 2020+ Ioniq, Tesla 3. Feel free to recommend something else if you think there's a good option.
I would go with the Ioniq if it weren't for the comparatively worse range. I'm wondering how big of a deal it will be for things like driving between Edmonton and Calgary. Also driving it back from Quebec.
Looking at the listings online, it seems like the pickings are quite slim for getting something within Alberta, and maybe there's a bit more of a selection in BC, but it's nothing compared to Quebec.
Also, I am planning on charging it in the parking garage of an apartment, using the regular outlets. I won't be driving very much on a daily basis. Do you think the building would be okay with this? Worse case is they make me pay for the usage right? Or is there a chance they would just say "No you aren't allowed to do that".
Also wondering if people expect used prices to drop in the next year(s) following the national rebate and chinese imports. Or if this will not really have an effect.
As the title suggests here is my initial review of the Grizzl-E club. Hopefully this review can help folks considering joining and provide feedback for United Chargers (the Grizzl-E company). I intend to edit/update this post over time to provide more information. This may get longs so please see subheadings so you can skip to whatever you may want.
ORDERING AND DELIVERY:
I placed my order on Tuesday, April 28 2026. On May 4th, Grizzl-E shipped out the package from Etobicoke. So 4 business days to ship, 6 regular days. The package was delivered to me on May 5th (I live near North Bay). Despite what the emails said, I did not need to sign for the package -- some people may see this as a positive or a negative. For me it's a positive since I don't have to co-ordinate being home at the time of delivery. Shipping cost $40 and change. For a 25 pound product and overnight delivery, l'm happy with that.
Unboxing:
Package arrived in good shape, no damage, content slip on the outside. Inside, all the stuff was nicely in the Grizzl-E soft carrying bag. I got the Grizzl-E Mini Connect 40A.
Soft Carrying Case:
I love that they include this, and it's great. But I think it could be slightly improved from a great product to a flawless one. Here are my notes:
Change the straps for the adapters. In my experience, they are too heavy for the velcro so when you put them in their spots and try to close the case they just fall out into the body of the case. This is such a nitpick but a small improvement could be made. I'd suggest either 1) Moving the traps from the 'lid' of the case to the bottom of it as anytime you need the adapters you'd surely be taking out the entire EVSE (cable) anyways. OR 2) replace the individual velcro straps with a an elastic mesh pouch or mesh pouch and zipper setup like some suitcases use.
Explore the possibility of changing the cases dimensions. I say explore because I'm not sure if this is possible for the intended purpose. Basically, I drive a 2024 Chevy Equinox EV and I would love in the soft carrying case could fit in the car's EVSE storage space. I think think the bag does, at least not without some serious squishing. If Grizzl-E could survey the various EVSE compartment sized across EVs driven in Canada and adjust their dimensions so that the soft carry bag can fit universally that would be awesome. Yes I know it's a soft case, but it's got some spine to it so it's not as malleably as you may think (or at least I don't want to crush it up like that)
Installation and Set-up
Super duper easy. It's nearly plug n go. It comes with ample digestible flyers explaining the steps. Takes no more than 5-10 minutes. Regarding the hardware:
The mounting cradle is easy and sturdy. Three screws. No notes.
The EasyEvPlug has two small issues. It's four screws and the upper two are embedded deep into the plastic design, requiring a very long drill bit. If they just moved these holes from tucked inside the mold to 1-2 inches higher, on the top and outside the mold, installation would be perfect. The EV plug has a rubber cover, this is nice. However, you have to take the cover off to holster the plug on their EasyEvPlug. However, so you don't lose it, the cover it stays attached via a little rubber cord that it just dangles from. It seems weird to have a cover that cannot be used 99% of the time. Obviously the cover will be off when plugged in, but it also has to be off when sitting in the wall mount/holster. So I guess it's only meant to be covered when transporting the EVSE. Kinda weird.
Misc improvements that could be made:
Please switch to robertson screws instead of phillips. Robertson is Canadian and a better design, harder to strip.
Including some kind of wall mount for the EVSE slack would bring this up a level. I was able to make my own in about 15 minutes using some brackets and wood I had in my garage, but not everyone can do that. Having all that slack on the garage floor instead great so including a solution would be fantastic
Give a little more length on the top of the device. The Grizzl-E Mini is located about a foot from the 14-50 plug, followed by lots of cable. Giving an extra foot on the top would allow greater maneuverability, easier removal from the wall mount without unplugging, and more freedom when deciding where to mount the mini.
I recognize this section probably sounds quite critical and/or nit-picky but that's just because the overall product is great. Despite all I've said above, I'd give the hardware quality and installation process an 8.5 or 9/10. I'm just spitballing about how we could bring that up to a 10/10 no notes.
Daily use (including App):
It's great, does exactly what you'd want. It's been a week now and there's no issues, nothing frustrating. Just plug and it does its thing. The app is clear and I like that you can input your energy rates into it as well as a number of other features. It's graphs are satisfying too. My only complaint is that in order to see how much you've earned in rewards you have to open the app, click the banner at the bottom, and go to their website. It would be really satisfying and much simpler if when you opened the app it just showed your total at the top similar to a banking app. I'm at $1.20 so far.
Deposit Refund and Payout:
I got my deposit refund in a timely matter. I don't recall specifically when I first used the charger and when the deposit refund came in but it was automatically issued and it felt quick. I wasn't sitting around wondering when it would come in. So that's all good and legit.
As far as payouts go, I have yet to experience this since I'm only at $1.20 as I mentioned. I did email Grizzl-E today and suggest that they offer discounts on their own products if you redeem payout money for the entire transaction or part of it. That would be a nice bonus and seems like a sensible business move to me. So fingers crossed something like that emerges.
Conclusion:
After my first week, I am super happy and would not only do this again but am talking about it to everyone I know. I chose Grizzl-E because of the negligible start-up cost ($100 deposit + shipping). I will update this post when I have more to share. I hope this post helps!
I really do love this vehicle. Learning more everyday it truly is a joy to drive . Zero CarPlay issues. I have not had a need for fast charging or routing yet . See how that goes . It would have been nice if it saved the last regen setting . I keep forgetting to turn it on but not a big deal . Exceeds all my expectations and range has been better than expected so far . Nothing is perfect but I would recommend it to others as a solid choice for a new ev
My job has mandated RTO 4 days a week and I currently live 120km each way from the closest office, so I'm looking at 900km weekly (maybe 700km if I can negotiate 3 days at my review). I plan to relocate closer but it won't be for another 2 years due to my wife's school obligations.
I live in a rural area so the roads aren't always cleared, so I would prefer an SUV with AWD I can finance or pay cash, I would prefer the car to be around 50-55k if possible and I'm in Ontario
I would've taken the mach-e deal if this announcement came earlier but it seems harder to get now and I'm not sure what would make sense for my situation at this point with what's available in the market. The only positive in all of this is they have level 2 chargers at work.
What are the best choices in terms of range, pricing, value and incentives?
Key Points
Hey all!
I'm looking to hop in the EV cars since my Lexus IS300 likes to drink a lot of gaz. I got that IS few years ago because I really like the look and the car itself. However, I'm somewhere else now.
I'm looking for 3 models :
-Kia EV4 (Wind or Wind Premium)
-Equinox EV (FWD LT)
-Subaru Uncharted (EDIT the FWD the LR one)
-Toyota C-HR (SE)
I know the EV4 is not a SUV while the 2 others are. Having a SUV is not a requirement, I'm used to a compact sedan with 2 kids so that's why it's in the list even if it's another ''class''.
What's your thoughts, your opinion, or even your review of these cars ?
I tried the EV4 2 weeks ago and a few times the Equinox EV RS that my stepfather has (but looking more for a LT). Both are ok for me.
For the EV4, do you think the ICCU problem with the Ioniq 5/6 and EV6/9 is a concern for that model (not on the 800V, but still a E-GMP) ? I did not find anything about it, is that something you'll be worried about ?
Thanks !
