The easter miricle: 100lbs of meat

I was literally rolling up to the dumpster as the dude was throwing two huge boxes of fresh meat. As soon as he walked away I rolled up on my cargo bike and started looting. It was all still cold. I'm loading my cart up my cart.

Dude comes out when I'm about 80 percent done. "Hey uh... I'm supposed to tell you you can't pick through the trash like that..."

"And now you're on camera telling me. You've done you're job and gonna go back inside, right?"

"Uhh yeah I guess." And then he turned and left.

90 percent of the top shelf is a solid brick of meats. Bacon, beef, pork, good meats. Expensive meats. The protein crisis is over for us.

Meat on the table. Thanks Easter Bunny

Another boring Sunday for me. I had absolutely no desire to make an Easter dinner. So , I got a $1.00 McDonald's diet coke cause I'm cheap and off I went. I took a lazy drive up the road and back. My honey pot provided me with 3 hams , 3 LG roaster chickens ( the cute ones with the pop up timers ) , and 8 lbs of ground chuck . I have an assortment of fruits and vegetables in the car that I'm simply too tired to bring in. 2 hams are in freezer. chickens in crackpot ( cause I'm lazy ) , groundbreaking in huge pot cooking , 1 ham and 2 roaster in oven. Freezer space is short on supply and darn refrigerator has gone out AGAIN . All the meat will be bagged up and put in freezer. I'm so glad I went today instead of tomorrow. Cats are waiting patiently for a bite.

Old Diver getting back into it with the help of the DD gods.

Hi guys! I’m 68 and not in good shape anymore. I’ve been garbage picking/dumpster diving for my entire life; my mother taught me. I stopped in March 2020. I got sick with this and that and just didn’t have what it took to DD.

All your posts are inspiring me! I just HAD to go out! Before I left the house to go to the place that had been my honey pot for many years, I made a mental note of what I needed and would go into the store for whatever DD didn’t give me. The things I needed/wanted were: milk, some veggies, fruit, a ham for Easter, maybe some other meat.

I was a little disappointed when I got to the dumpster. It seemed to be all garbage and one lonely mango. I thanked god for my favorite fruit and figured that I didn’t go on the right day or time. Next time will be better.

As I’m pulling away, I catch a glimpse of six household sized garbage cans. I got cold milk, a cold spiral ham, fresh green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, lemons, a LOT of strawberries and bananas and different types of peppers, cold chicken breast, avocados, lemons (I started making iced tea because soda is so expensive now) and several bags of oranges. One of my sons has been on an orange kick lately and boy o boy do I have oranges.

I’m sorry I don’t have the energy to make a pretty picture but I’m exhausted from freezing all this stuff. Actually I was tired just driving home, but so happy and grateful for my haul and I owe it to you all for posting your pictures.

May the dumpster gods shine upon you.

Kid had a nice score

Kid had a nice score

Kid was walking by a tech office being demolished and found a dumpster full of wired and mostly wireless keyboards. His big win was the hospital grade breast pump worth over 1300.00 new.

About 100lbs of potatoes

There are a few other things like a bag of peppers and a few onions but it's almost entirely potato. 1.5 vegetables crates. Very heavy. Gonna be a fun ride home.

Reacher/grabber

Anyone have a recommendation for a sturdy reacher. I had one for $27 that snapped when i was trying to get a bag of oranges out of an Aldis. I don't mind spending a little more for a good one. Usually buy on amazon.
