Deep Jet Ore — stoneware set with raw mineral tones

Finished up this “Deep Jet Ore” set and really liked how the natural tones came through on this batch.

The surface ended up with a kind of layered, mineral feel—almost like something pulled straight out of the ground.

Shrouded Depths

I've started soft launching some smaller 4d6 and 5d6 sets. I'll be making a handful over the next week or two in similar styles to what you already know from me and adding them to the shop. If they find their place, they'll stick around alongside the full sets.

This set has this quiet, mysterious feeling of something just beyond a frosted pane of glass or frozen lake. I’ll be giving this set to my dad, but expect to keep seeing more from me here.

Ultrasonic cleaner - make sure your dice do not touch!

https://preview.redd.it/8d752wav3fwg1.jpg?width=1602&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1d367854029f96bf88a357f91cceaf42d0f76d6

I decided to experiment with an ultrasonic cleaner. This was a pure experiment and not worth the expense. There were no "game changing" results, but I will probably continue to use it because, why not?

HOWEVER... You need to be careful that your dice DO NOT TOUCH EACH OTHER, or your dice surfaces can abrade one another. The top of this crystal D4 is significantly abraded.

Cleopatra

Another day, another set ready for market! This set came from a failed concept for a comission. The blanks were lovely, but not right for that set. So they have been revived as a new set that will go to market!

They give me Cleopatra/ancient Egypt vibes.

Issues with supporting 3D printer masters

I'm having issues with dice falling off Dicemaker fin supports. At this point I've tried way too many times always slightly adjusting something but all of the prints have failed with either the dice getting only slightly peeled off (and malformed as a result) or the dice just completely falling off the supports and getting pancaked on the fep.

Here's some changes I've tried so far:

  • Adding extra medium sized supports across the dice faces
  • Slowing down the lift speed
  • Pre-warming the resin with a heat gun (room temp ~20C)
  • Alternating dice rotations on the build plate
  • Alternating dice locations on the plate (so they're not at the very center)
  • Increasing fin support contact width from 0.15mm to 0.2mm

I'm using Siraya Tech fast ABS-like navy grey with Siraya Techs recommended profile for my printer.

Maybe relevant slicer settings (from my last failed run):

  • Exposure time: 2.5s
  • Lift distance: 3+4mm
  • Lift speed: 60 & 240 mm/min

I'm at my wits end. I feel like I don't want to increase the fin support contact width further, but that seems like the only option at this point. Maybe further slowing down the lift speed might also help?

Any and all opinions welcome. Wanted to know if someone else here has faced the same problem before starting another possibly failing go.

beginner questions

so i am planning to dice make in future and had some questions about it so i am gonna list them in hope that some of you reply to them.

  1. as i am doing new i cant invest in vaccum chamber /pressure pot so how to avoid bubbles.

  2. should i use rings inside a pair of dice , i am scared it may lead to unequal weight of dice.

  3. is it possible to do dices without pressure pot and have them in a usable state?

  4. mica dye or alcohol ink?

  5. is a g-500 respirator be enough for epoxy?

  6. will 225 ml of epoxy and 75 ml of resin be enough for 2-3 pairs (3:1)

  7. are liquid cores beginner friendly?

Is it possible to make dice without a vacuum chamber/pressure po/autoclave ?

I might want to try making my own dice for personal use, and my budget is limited to a maximum of €150. I’ve seen videos where people make them without a vacuum chamber or autoclave.

How to cast D&D resin dice without bubbles without a vacuum chamber or autoclave?! :

Is it possible to do the same thing using this mold I saw on Etsy: 6-6d6, 16 mm x 16 mm: https://www.etsy.com/fr/listing/1847586931/ silicone-dice-set-6-d6-with-edges?ls=s&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=mold+6-d5&ref=sr_gallery-1-1& pro=1&frs=1&bes=1&content_source=38bc5deb-9729-4053-9852-139fd75cd6ad%253ALTb46f2a68dadecfbdd5ff8620a55dc49735a5e116& organic_search_click=1& logging_key=38bc5deb-9729-4053-9852-139fd75cd6ad%3ALTb46f2a68dadecfbdd5ff8620a55dc49735a5e116

With this 6-6d6 mold, is it possible to do the same thing?

If so, what type of resin would I need?

If it’s not possible, what type of mold would I need, and what resin should I use to follow the same method shown in these videos?

Here is my equipment list; is it okay?

Does anyone have any tips on how to prevent air bubbles in resin D&D dice?

I usually make my own dice and would really like to.start making more of them. I've been working with resin for years now, but dice are the one thing I just always seem to fudge up and have to revise because of hidden bubbles. I've tried squeezing the mold to let physics so the work (works most of the time), filling in along the edges first, pouring my resin in multiple cups from high up to allow any bubbles to pop before my final pour, overfilling intentionally, etc. I can't really use a torch or flame because of how small my molds are and the fact that my dad's bullet station is not a safe enough distance away for me to feel safe using an open flame. The only other thing I can figure is a pressure pot, but I don't have the financial means to get one right now, nor do I have the space for it. Any advice welcome, please be kind.

Question on Preserving Dice

Hello, I bought 60 dice a few days ago and I'm concerned that the image on the dice will quicky fall off after a few uses. I need help about how to preserve it correctly.

  1. Does this need preserving? I'm pretty sure its just applied stickers and there's not really anything stopping damage applied to the dice. I provided a closeup photo in case someone notices some protection I don't.
  2. If it does need preserving, how should I go about it? I live in a humid climate so I heard I shouldn't use any sprays. I also think I'd need to use something water-based as this seems like it could be washed off if it was something stronger.
    1. I was going to do liquid dips with liquitex pouring medium but have concerns about pooling at the bottom when I dry it which would ruin the weight distribution and make it roll unnaturally.
    2. I was told I didn't need to pay for pouring mediums and could use some simple mod podge. I'm not sure of the process of this or if it differs but would consider it.
  3. I just don't know how to apply it evenly on all surfaces and would like to hear how others balance it out correctly. I'll even consider sanding it down but think it would make it very blurry although I've heard very fine sanding can avoid that.

I'm worried about making the shape unnatural and being considered weighted dice or just bad dice. I read a couple posts about the different ways to do it but would love to hear feedback directly. Any feedback would be helpful so thank you in advance.

Liquid core insert question.

I printed this hollowed blank so I can make a jumbo liquid core D20 without having to source a globe for the core. I've seen this done before, and I know I don't need to polish the outside of the blank. My question is, do I need to polish the interior of the core, or will the glycerin/water make that unnecessary?

Stoneware set I just finished… might’ve rolled through a goblin camp

Finished up this stoneware set and the surface ended up with this splattered look that definitely wasn’t part of the original plan…

Kind of feels like they’ve seen some things.

Set I made for a friend.

I haven't posted for a while. After a few months of setbacks while making my masters and molds, I finally have molds I'm happy with!

A friend of mine asked for dice that are similar to a watermelon tourmaline, but aqua instead of green. I decided to use the petri method. They were a present for her niece, who is very happy with them!

I also used this as an opportunity to test out my boxes.

Painting Glass Dice

Hi all! I'm not a dice maker, but I need some advice. I bought my wife a set of crystal/glass dice and there beautiful, but the numbers aren't painted. The capture angle in the images online made them look easy to read, but the reality is that it's incredibly difficult to make out the numbers without getting super close.

So my question, paint medium should I use for the numbers? I have a lot of acrylic paint for my miniatures, but I haven't been able to find any solid confirmation that acrylic will stick to the glass surfaces.

In case it matters, the numbers are cut into the glass like a typical resin die.

Thanks in advance!
