Costco Travel is the absolute best. They got me $4500 price adjustment

So we booked the 12 night Med cruise for July 2026 last year with Celebrity. I paid $18,000 for a Celebrity suite, and yesterday I get an alert message that the cruise fare has dropped by 47%. The problem is the cruise was already paid off and I am in the penalty window. I asked ChatGPT and Grok for advice and both said that it’s going to be difficult to get an adjustment since the cruise is paid and in the penalty window, but they may be able to get me OBC or upgrade. So I called Costcotravel today and had one of the best representative ever. She tried her best and she was able to get me the full fare adjustment. So happy to get that $4500 back. I almost always book with Costco and this is exactly why.

What do you most miss from home?

When we return from the cruise we all miss all the wonderful things on the cruise. But we all also are thankful to get back to some things we missed from home.

What are you most happy to get back when you return home?

For me it's pint glasses from the freezer. For both beer and milk. Not just home but most restaurants I regularly go to have pint glasses in either a fridge or freezer. That's how beer is meant to be fully enjoyed.

Which Cruise Would You Choose?

Personally, I am leaning towards Star of the Seas or Norwegian Aura, but I wanted to see what other people would choose.

I have sailed on all 3 cruise lines, I have sailed on the Excel Class Ships from Carnival but have not sailed on the Icon Class from Royal or Prima++ Class from NCL (Not official class name). I have been to all of these ports besides Coco Cay, San Juan, and Great Stirrup Cay post renovations.

I will be sailing with a 17 year old and a 6 year old and all sailings will be towards the end of August 2027.

Just some of the things I ate on a recent MSC cruise

I didn’t photograph everything. I thought the food was really good. Staff obviously took care to make sure food health and safety protocols were followed. There wasn’t always a ton of variety but it was good for my palette.

Carnival Sunshine…Just as good in 2026 as she was in 1999 as Destiny

This is a fantastic ship. I’m sorry Norfolk if losing her to the Freedom. I like Sunshine’s layout better than Freedom’s and she’s the ship we took our honeymoon on in 1999…

We took her last week and she’s better than ever!

Wheelchair user - UK to NYC

Hi all! As the title suggests, I am a wheelchair user, and if any of you know first hand what air travel is like for people like me...well, I'm sorry!

I'm from the UK, and my best friend lives near NYC. I'd like to spend 2 to 3 weeks in the states with my friend, then return home. In order to visit her, going on a transatlantic cruise from Southampton to New York City would be my best bet. It would certainly be the most comfortable option for me.

I know flying is much quicker, but the length of time it takes to get there doesn't concern me. I'd rather spend 10 times as long in a boat in comfort than take one flight in extreme discomfort. The pain the flight would cause me would last days or weeks and ruin the holiday, anyway!

However my issue is this; cruises are so expensive! I'm very low income due to being disabled (yay 🙃). I could save over the next year but honestly I don't think I could pay any more than £1500 for a roundtrip. It's frustrating because flights are only around £500 for a roundtrip which is so much cheaper, but annoyingly not doable for me anymore. I've only been in a wheelchair a couple years so this is extra frustrating for me as I used to a) have more money and b) be able to just hop on a plane.

So, if anyone has any advice on how to get cheap transatlantic cruisess for a disabled pauper like myself, that would be great! Or if it's just to tell me it's not doable for my budget, fair enough. I'd rather people be honest!

Truly though, I just miss my bestie and really want to see her again 💔

Thanks in advance!

Any Cozumel Fishing Recommendations?

We're cruising on NCL first week of July with a stop in Cozumel. My 12 year old is super into fishing and I'd like to do some type of charter with him. Nothing NCL offers looks any good though. They only had 1 fishing excursion on our cruise itinerary and it's in a different port. Seems like Cozumel is our best bet for decent fishing though.

Any suggestions for a company to use? Seems like there's 100s of options, but I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation for one they've used. There'll be 2 people for sure, but potentially 4. If I've gotta pay for the whole boat we'll probably go as a family though. I booked through Vacations 2 Go, and they do offer one longer charter for the day which offers some protection\insurance for being back to the ship on time so that might be a good option, but they're pretty light on details.

Behaviour in public

Behaviour in public

So, I'm on holiday, cruising. There are a lot of young children on the cruise (<9 months - 7 years old).

Embarking was the sign, parents who allowed their children 1-3 yrs old to run around a very busy terminal.

On board and in the lift, parents get in with a buggy and a child, male approx. 5 yrs old, very loud and screaming, these parents have adopted soft parenting, no firm guidance, we all have to Wait while dad coaxes the child into the lift, with lots of ohhhs and ahhs from some of the other passengers.

The final straw, queuing to go into dinner when I felt something hit me on the top of my head, with some force I turned to see a very tall an adult male - I will not ascribe the term man or dad, father to this individual, who did nothing, not an apology nothing.

No, I didn't say anything, I think that the shock and it begin a child. Had I said anything I assumed that the blame would be deflected, as it's a child. I think the staff saw, they seated me very quickly.

Adult only cruises for me in the future.

NCL Iceland Norway Scotland Recommendations?

Hello! I’m going to be on the Norwegian Star with my grandpa this July, stopping in Iceland Norway and Scotland and landing in London. I’m 22 and this is a mix of a graduation trip but also serves as maybe his last trip while being in decent physical condition and mobility (he’s 90 or so but can move around).

I was wondering if anyone has any excursion recommendations we can both do if you’ve been on this one? I do wanna do some by myself which he is 100% ok with, like there’s a kayaking trip and also the Iceland natural springs.

I’m also wondering what peoples reviews of this trip or the Norwegian star are? I saw some bad reviews too. Also, since I’m pretty young, I’m interested in going out at night and maybe meeting friends and stuff on the cruise for excursions etc. I was wondering how many people could be around my age and where to find them? Are there parties or meeting events for someone my age? Thanks any help would be appreciated!

Expedition cruises , which one to choose?

I’ve been researching expedition cruises for a while now and honestly the deeper I go, the more confused I get)

At first it all looked the same Antarctica, Arctic, remote places but the way these brands position themselves is completely different:

Silversea feels like ultra-luxury first, expedition second (butler service, fine dining, super polished everything) Seabourn gives me more of a yacht / luxury hotel vibe, like softer adventure and comfort over anything else Ponant seems interesting with the whole eco-tech + French style angle, but also very curated Lindblad looks more like floating National Geographic, super focused on science and education Hurtigruten feels the most raw and adventure-driven, less about luxury and more about sustainability

Then I came across Swan Hellenic and it kinda sits somewhere in between all of these? Less flashy than Silversea, but not as rough as Hurtigruten. More focused on the actual destinations and experience rather than just selling luxury or tech.

I’m not really looking for a floating 5-star hotel, but I also don’t want something too hardcore expedition-style either.

So I’m curious:

which one actually gives the best overall experience? does luxury actually matter on these trips or is it overrated? and where does Swan Hellenic really stand compared to the others?

Would love to hear from people who’ve actually tried any of these, especially if you’ve compared a couple of them

Four cruise ships somehow sneaking through a "closed" Strait of Hormuz

This is kinda wild. Iran announced it's closing the strait again a few hours ago, many other ships are turning back, but AIS data right now (1132 UTC) shows four cruise ships navigating waters Iran have apparently declared to be a "hazardous area" (i.e. mined). BBC also reporting that other ships fired upon. MMLEEEEROYYYYY JENKINSSSSSS! Screenshot from cruisemapper.com

Question about timing from Vancouver to Alaska (Northbound on Discovery Princess)

We are booked on the May 15, 2027, Voyage of the Glaciers (Northbound) itinerary from Vancouver to Whittier on the Discovery Princess, and my travel partner very much wants to see San Juan Island and others as we embark from Vancouver. I have confirmed that the Discovery Princess' size means it has to traverse the seaward side of Vancouver Island, so can anyone who has done this itinerary recommend the best time to view San Juan Island? We don't want to miss it due to being at dinner in the main dining room and so want to be sure we pick the best dining time. Additionally, if anyone has done this itinerary on the Discovery Princess and has any tips to share specific to this itinerary and ship, we would be enormously appreciative! For example, I've been told to be sure we get up at sunrise the first morning as we round the north of Vancouver Island for a good shot at seeing whales our very first day. While we are seasoned cruisers elsewhere, this is our first time to Alaska.
