Cancelled My Membership - Exit Interview for Corporate

I was a member for 6 months with ~130 classes under my belt and have made the decision to leave Corepower. I started with going to C2 classes then very quickly fell in love with sculpt and CSX. While I had practiced some yoga prior to Corepower, I practiced more regularly with the membership and noticed great improvements for myself within the first 3 months there.

So why am I leaving? I think I reached the point where I no longer want the structure of a workout class. I frequently found myself in sculpt enjoying certain parts of the workout more than others and wishing we could spend more time doing that workout than moving on to another section... which translates into me looking for a gym membership. BUT what I realized about the class structure of Corepower is that its very unorganized and there is a simple solution, I believe, could be implemented to make it better for members.

My home studio was Philly (Walnut St) and they have fantastic teachers and have always made me feel welcomed. The one thing I noticed about the schedule when I first started was that it was sculpt heavy, which from reading posts in this community is a common theme across many locations. I think if the schedule is going to be sculpt heavy they should have designated areas of focus, building the week like a split and allows people to choose classes with more confidence. For example: Monday - arms, Tuesday - core, Wednesday - cardio , Friday - balance, Saturday - yoga, and Sunday - glutes.

I am NOT saying they should only focus on these areas but make it more prominent these days. Teachers are already doing this because they themselves favor certain areas. I once took a CSX glutes core class then the following day went to a sculpt class where the instructor had built into 2 sessions of squats and 1 session of belly down glutes, it was beyond overload! And I think it could be avoided with some simple additional structure and transparency.

Not only will this prevent overload on students who want to take multiple classes a week but it also allows people to focus on certain areas more than others if they want.

Thoughts?

Stretching / Leaving Early

Genuine question — why is leaving early during stretching considered such a big issue if the stretches are the same every class? I’m curious whether instructors see it as disrespectful, or if it’s more about student safety and making sure everyone stretches properly… it’s never made that much sense to me since they aren’t curating that section, but maybe I’m missing something!!!

Advice for results…?

Hi!!! I hate going to the gym so I decided to try corepower and i fell in love with it. I’m just wondering if I should keep going or if I should switch to another class based on the results that I want….?

First I just wanna say I’m already really skinny😅 but 1) I want to get more toned in my stomach area and 2) gain muscle literally everywhere that I can because I’m so weak

I started just last week and I only do YogaSculpt. How many times a week should I go? Do I need to do classes besides YogaSculpt? Is there something other than CorePower that I should do instead?? And do I need to change my diet (lots of protein and not much JUNK junk, but eat a lot of “healthy alternative” snacks throughout the day and carbs)……..

I am just here to vent about the most ridiculous behavior I've experienced in a Corepower class.

I get to class about 10 mins early to set up my mat/stretch. A man sets up a few spots over. Immediately answers a facetime, proceeds to talk on said facetime - volume on loud for about 5 minutes. Irritating in public even outside of a workout class, but I digress. He fortunately has his phone off the remainder of the class.

The real offender though - a girl comes in 8 minutes late to class. I can tell she is likely new as she has a CP mat/towel and an employee is helping her. Instead of quietly setting up in the back, she weaves through everyone actively working out - and sets up directly next to me in front of the mirror. I notice also she has her phone, screen on brightness 100 as she's walking through the class. Worth noting - this class is kept pretty dark the entire class, using only floor lights - no overheads, so screens are VERY noticeable.

She sets up, jumps in workout. All is fine for a bit. Until she decides she needs to check her phone. OK whatever, maybe an emergency. But no - texts multiple messages, proceeds to scroll for a minute before finally joining back in. Brightness on 100 again. Very noticeable. Also of note - she has very long nails that are VERY loud when typing. Can hear them over the music.

This continues about every 3 minutes or so for the remainder of class. She stops exercising, lays on her mat, just types and scrolls. Maybe it's my ADHD but I find this SO distracting between the noise & light. Normally I can focus on myself and don't notice other people - but this was impossible to not notice.

Finally stretching/savasana comes. Tap tap tap typing continues through all of stretching. I thought surely she would have a little awareness and stop for savasana... Wrong. She starts taking SELFIES while everyone else is laying down, then continues her loud typing/texting that can easily be heard over the music. She then proceeds to get up with her mat and weights, flopping around loudly before savasana was over.

I was so close to saying something, but decided it wasn't my place. I wish the instructor had said something - because this was the opposite of a calming/grounding experience 😅 I sent a message regarding it in my review after the class to the studio directly.

Is it really that difficult to put your phone away for an hour, or take it out of the studio if it's an emergency? And instructors, as uncomfortable as it is, is there a way we can kindly asking people to put away phones? It seems insane that people would need reminders that this is not ok, but alas. Thank you for reading my novel, I hope no one else has to deal with this!

New nyc protocol: teachers ask everyone to leave their mats on the floor and then run the FLOOR MOP over each mat before hanging them one by one inside the studio (not outside the studio like before). So then the next class will have a wall of sweaty mats + chemicals from the previous class marinating in the dark and musty basements with zero air circulation. Get ready for a sweaty matpocalypse at the nyc studios 😞 I will add to my ending class speech: “leave your mat if you borrowed one, and I’ll run the floor mop over them” just so people are aware and can report. Creeping up into osha hazard territory lmao

Stretching after sculpt

Anyone else feel like a figure four/supine twist/happy baby not enough stretching after 45 minutes of intense movement?

I wish the stretching was more comprehensive/intentional and based on what we did in the class vs the same thing every time.

I recently caught ring worm and I’m beyond pissed I’ve never had and it’s been so annoying I’ve been closely watching how the “students or teachers clean and they barley spray the floor… its beyond disgusting I think I’m canceling my membership getting this fungal infection is not worth it

Rant about kids running around in studio

Just a little rant that right after class was done today and everything was silent and calm, someone just walked in with their kid and they started running around. She didn't even try to hold him back as he ran up to people.

It definitely disturbed the peace and I'm curious if that's ever happened to anyone else. Why bring a 3 year old into a class that has just wrapped up as everyone's "waking up" from the Savasana. This was in NYC for reference.

Incense, palm santo, sage or whatever other pseudoscience this is, CorePower needs to stop it. Burning these substances releases particulate matter (including PM2.5), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and combustion byproducts into the indoor air where people are gasping and taking deep breaths. Even at low levels, these pollutants can irritate the lungs, trigger asthma symptoms, worsen headaches and migraines, and create sensory distress for people with neurological or sensory sensitivities. Many students attend yoga studios expecting a clean air wellness environment, not additional indoor air pollution and increased risk of future cancer.

Hi! I’ve gone to corepower VERY on and off for the better part of 10 years, having moved around a lot, sometimes to towns with no CPY studios. However this year I’m FINALLY going consistently (3-4x week, a mix of YS & C2) for the first time in my life and feeling really good about it. I’ve also made several other lifestyle changes and decided to finally take my health seriously at 32.

However because of my sporadic attendance I’ve never really progressed beyond the 3s and 5s. I’ve always had noodle arms, even growing up I was in a ballet company for many years and weight training is something I’ve only lightly dabbled in. Like I’ve never been able to do a pushup ever in my life until recently (sad, I know!) I finally feel like I’m ready to level up on the weights but I’m nervous lol, how does one go about doing so? Should I try to do a whole class with 5s and see how it goes? Is there a strategy or am I overthinking this? Idk why weights intimidate me, but I want to get strong!

Thanks in advance :)

Summer college student discount this year?

Last year there was a special where if you were an all access member you could bring your HS/college kid with you to class for the summer. Is that happening again this year? I've been thinking of converting from class pack to membership and would do it if this special is running this year. If not I will get her a discounted student class pack

Hey all!
I noticed there were options to enroll in an online version of the YS 50-hour trainings. There are three of these in the app, all different dates, but denoting online classes only when you look at the schedule.
Is this a true option, or is this just bc they don’t have the studios added to these training yet? If this is a true offering, would these students be less preferred to be chosen as teachers than those who take in person teacher training? How would these students audition to be a teacher? Thanks!

Best option for adding more that 2 allotted guests

Hey all!! I teach sculpt but I find myself some months wanting to take class with more people (non-members, like my family and friends) than my buddy pass allows. Are there options for me when I am bringing 3+ people (discounted drop ins, additional buddy passes, etc.) or should I tell my guests they're on their own?

i am a high school senior who has done track all my life, and upon my season ending have engaged in youtube yoga in my free time- very low key, at home, and on my own time the past few weeks. i’ve been more interested in yoga and decided to apply for a nearby corepower SET position to see more what actual studio yoga is about. i received an email back discussing the job, responsibilities, an interview date etc. after looking more into it i saw that because of the low amount of hours given for SET, its main draw is the discounts on teacher training. i’m wondering if i were to get the SET job, and do teacher training with the goal of eventually becoming a corepower instructor, would it be worth it? the options for me would be the 200hr in person and the 50 sculpt online. if i did the 200hr i wouldn’t audition at my studio here as i’d go away for college by the end of the program an would want to audition there (santa barbara)- where i don’t know how competitive the jobs are and lose any (if any) advantage of already being known at a studio. if i did the 50 hr sculpt i think i could try to audition in where id work SET already/around mid-late june, but im not sure if the online 50hr sculpt would prepare someone w less experience like me for an audition? and assuming i somehow did get the job off the summer audition, i leave in late september and there’s no guarantee i get the job at the location by my college- although hopefully a better chance? i’m very interested in the idea of being a yoga instructor as it would kill 2 birds with one stone in being my next means of staying active now that im leaving behind high school sports and be a way for me to earn money over the summer and hopefully in college, however the teacher training is still very expensive and im not sure if its worth doing if im not guaranteed to get a job out of it/ROI. any advice?

It’s that time of the year where most trainings have either finished, or about to end. Please share your thoughts about your experience to help other people considering teacher training through CorePower make a decision if it is worth it or not.

They have revamped their teacher training structure and their audition process. Share any new information if you can.

I started teaching as a YS instructor in Jan of this year.. a month in I had the flu and then immediately after strep - it’s been not even two months and I have strep again???

I’ve never had strep prior to the incident two months ago and I’m genuinely thinking it’s corepower getting me sick? I’ve never had a consistent membership just class packs and every time I’m sick I see someone in our sub chat posting about the same symptoms I do🙃🙃🙃.

Has anyone else noticed this??
