Oil quality at 1500 miles.

Recently swapped out the “water” 0w20 for a Dexos1 Mobil 5w30. Surprised with how contaminated and thin the 0w20 already was at 1500 miles. Swirls of metallic, pungent fuel/exhaust smell etc. But 6000 more miles!?!? I knew its a bad viscosity for an already overworked, small displacement turbo engine. The car idles quieter, quieter when taking off from a stop and smoother driving. it’s not as surgy under small load. I hate the fact our manufacturers are following the CAFE standards so hard that they don’t give a damn about the consumer. Check your oil folks…

How do you charge your phone?

I just got a marina blue metallic 26 Trax activ and I’m wondering what the best way/place to charge my phone is.

I didn’t get the wireless charging because of all the issues I read about, and I like the little slot between the cup holders to set my phone in, but I can’t imagine charging it there without a cord interfering with the shifter knob.

Has anyone come up with a genius solution they can share?

My girlfriend and 3 year old daughter were traveling last night (500 miles away from home) and blew a connecting rod out the side of the block. 37,250 miles on it. Definitely was not a comforting phone call to receive. What an absolute piece of shit for an engine GM produced.

for those with a 2024-2026 with a/c issues...

...which trim option do you have? i have seen a recent trend at my dealership where our a/c department has been getting a ton of traxs, although they usually get one every week or week and a half. i noticed that last wednesday it started with 1 activ, this monday with 2 activs, an activ yesterday, and today 2 more activs- all randomly 2024s through 2026s. no other trim options since that first activ last wednesday. whats funny is its actually quite rare to see activs on the road around here, usually ls or 1rs.

My car hates me

Hi so this is my first and only car (2018 Chevy Trax) since getting my license and I honestly don’t know much about cars except for how to check oil, Coolant, tire pressure, and how to change a tire in the event of an emergency. This was my parents car before being given to me when my mom upgraded two and a half years ago. When I got it, it had 89k miles on it and as of today it has 137,001 miles. Since being given the car, I’ve had to replace the purge valve, the water pump, and coil pack, and now as of Saturday, the radiator cap. My parents bought this car with only 500 miles on it total (I was there and helped pick it out) back in 2019. Now currently, I am having an overheating issue with the car, a ticking noise coming from the right side of the engine bay (unidentified currently), poor acceleration, my RPM when I first start the car is between 1 and 2 before going down to 1 when last year when I would start the car, it would automatically go down to 1 upon start, and if it is left idling for more than 5 minutes, the rpm will drop down to the half way mark between 1 and 0 as if it was going to die, for about two or three seconds, then go back to normal. Has anyone else had these issues before? Is this normal? Please help a girl out 😭

Edit to add; Everytime I mention an issue with the car to my dad, he gets mad and tries to convince me that it’s in my head, and he just doesn’t believe me because he hasn’t seen the issues first hand. When I first got the car and I had mentioned it acting funny, he said that I was being paranoid and then not even a week later I ended up stranded on the side of the road in the middle of 100 degree weather during the summertime because the ignition coil went out.

Today marks 3 years of ownership (May 6th). When I bought this in may of 2023 it was the first (of four) delivered to our local dealership. I was the first person in our area to own one. Since purchasing we (me and my wife) have put 90,000 miles on it, actually rolling over the 90k mile mark today on its 3 yr ownership! We had a short 6 months where we didn’t drive the car because we were away from home, it was in storage. So in 2 and a half years is how long it took to put those miles on.

Since owning I have had ZERO issues.

The maintenance done has been oil changes every 5k miles performed by the dealership I bought it from , to keep it under warranty. Which we have a lifetime unlimited mile powertrain warranty thru our dealership, they give it with all new vehicles purchased, I did not buy any warranty. I just have to keep good maintenance records, that’s why I have it done at the dealer because they keep record of every oil change.

I’ve replaced the tires at 60k miles with Michelin crossclimate 2s, which are great tire and I would recommend to anyone. Does great in the snow also.

And I have replaced the wiper blades twice lol.

A part from that I have not done anything else besides running thru the car wash weekly lol. As far as future maintenance, I will be doing spark plugs this coming week which is supposed to be done at 70k miles. And just continuing with oil changes every 5k miles. Not at all worried about the wet timing belt like some other people are that don’t know anything about these.

Brake pads are still at 50% or more. Won’t need them for a while.

This is now my main vehicle, it wasn’t before, I will be putting roughly 45k miles on it yearly from here on out. So I’ll keep yall updated. I paid cash for the car so not worried about miles, that’s the greatness of these things.

I we have this trax, multiple people in my family have them, multiple friends, and other acquaintances also have them. All of those people have never had any issues besides one had the infotainment connection issue. Based on my experience and these others, the 2024 and newer Chevy trax is a great affordable, reliable, and comfortable car.

If you have any questions, ask away!

Got some news this morning

Hey there Joe, my technician found a crack in your engine block. We will be replacing the engine for you, we do not have an ETA on when we will see the engine at this point, but I will let you know as soon as I do --

2024 Chevy Trax RS

Has anybody done their own replacement of the ambient light sensor? Headlights keep blinking and was pulled over by a cop thinking we were flashing cars to tell them they were there. Not too keen on taking it to the dealer to do it as they are charging an arm and a leg to do it.

I know Chevy issued a bulletin on it but as of right now it’s not a recall.

I was doing a 5hr drive back home and everything under the hood caught on fire. I got no warning light or anything. The only reason I noticed was because I was getting tired so I decided to pull over and stop the engine and as soon as I did I noticed smoke coming out. I was able to tow it back home but I still don’t have any clue on how this happened.

Phone holder

Where could I put a phone holder in the trax? Im thinking of doing Uber for extra income. And plus a phone holder would be way easier in general. But I dont wanna rest it on the screens. Probably couldn't anyway. Is the only reliable place on the center vents? I have a 2025 LT with both screens on the dash

Hi everyone- I'm planning on buying a brand new 2026 Trax 2RS. Long story short, I'm very worried about everything I've been seeing on here regarding engine issues. Granted, most of those are the 2024 model. For those that have a 2026, how has it been for you?

For reference, I'm moving to California where I'll have a 20-45 min highway commute, not much other driving other than errands. I've been car shopping for a while, and want a cheaper SUV to build my credit on before I transition to something nicer. Also, I plan on getting the service plan and only servicing at the dealership.

Totally was not expecting this

I've only had my car for 6 months. I was at work and was clocking out, and I came out to this. The good thing is the person who hit my car left their info, so I'm currently working with insurance to get the headlight fixed. Still can't believe it though. 🙁

Oem engine filter

Is the dealer the only place to get the oem engine filter. Or is there another “better” one. I usually use O’Reilly’s auto parts, they have wix is the oe on there. Wasn’t sure if that was the oe or was ac delco, like engine oil filter, cabin air filter. The wix that’s in there right now isn’t the best from my point of view. Could be wrong though.

I have a 25 LT

2024 Chevy Trax Backup Camera

I think my backup camera is not working as it should be, but I was driving another Chevy product for a few weeks and am wondering if I'm getting the backup cameras confused.

When I am in reverse, I remember my backup camera showing a red line to alert me when to stop because of something behind me (curb, car, post, etc). But the last few days I have not seen this red line when I am in reverse. We had some crazy bad rain recently, so I checked the camera to make sure there was nothing on it that might be impacting how it worked, but it looked fine.

If you have a 2024 Trax, does your backup camera show this red line?

Anyone else so happy to be driving a 3 banger gas economic car with these gas prices? I sure am! I went from a mini van to my Trax and am so happy to not have to fill up a huge tank here in Seattle for 6 bucks a gallon currently. GRATEFUL!
