Awkward & Co

Hi there!

I’m starting a conversation because I can’t be the only one who feels this way! I’m in my early 30s, recently moved to Chester County but work in Delco and Lancaster County after finishing grad school, and want to meet new people! It’s getting nice out and I’d love to grab some coffee with a group of people at a local coffee shop to make new friends, hike somewhere to get some fresh air, go antiquing or to a farmer’s market, or cheer on the Phillies (sad about Flyers and 76ers getting swept but it’ll be football season before you know it, go birds). I have a tendency to be quiet and a homebody while wishing I could be more social, so I’m stepping out of my comfort zone here. I hope other people can relate and we can start a group!

Feel free to say hi and introduce yourself! 😊

Spring Moon Rise

Marsh Creek State Park - May 2026
Spring Moon Rise

Well before sunrise, a waning crescent moon rises above the lake. The lack of recent rain is evident from the low water level. Shot with the Sony A99II and CZ 16-35 f/2.8 lens using a Lee100 GND filter. Camera mounted on a RRS tripod & head with a 3 Legged Thing universal mounting plate.

Wedding Venues

I figured you guys would be more helpful here than any other reddit page! I'm looking for wedding venues and I will describe what I'm looking for plus what I have already said no to.

Vibe: We are doing a classic black and white wedding with pops of wine red. Dark, moody, vintage. We are looking for a place that matches this vibe, so we prefer a ballroom style place, something industrial, or a gorgeous estate. We are strictly against straight up barns, as they don't fit our theme at all.

Budget: ~30k including venue rental, food + basic inclusions like tables, chairs, linens etc. All-inclusive is prefered, but I am open to bringing in outside vendors so please feel free to suggest places that are venue rental only.

Guest Count: ~125, looking for a venue that fits at least 170 so there's space.

Location: pretty open. We are looking in Chester County, Montgomery County, Philly, Wilmington DE, Lancaster PA, even New Jersey. I would prefer closer than Lancaster, but still open to it.

Venues I love so far: Marian House (NJ), Excelsior (Lancaster), Phoenixville Foundry, Loch Aerie, Ballroom at Ellis Preserve.

Venues I have decided against: Downingtown Country Club, Rockwood Carriage House, The Farm at Eagles Ridge, The Barn at Silverstone, Elizabeth Furnace, Stone Gables Estate, Osbornia, Cameron Estate, Historic Shady Lane, Fox Barn 29, White Chimneys, Barn on Bridge, Philander Chase Knox, Franklin Commons, The Farmhouse at People's Light, Elkins Estate.

Please do not yell at me to adjust my standards, I am completely willing to. Just running out of options and tired of searching so reaching out in case I'm missing any!

Hair salons

Are there any good hair salons in Exton? Preferably ones that aren’t outrageously priced. Every single salon I’ve looked up between west Chester and Exton are $200 + for a trim and highlights. I also have very thin/fine hair. I refuse to pay that much for something I know takes less than an hour for me. I’ve been to wild honey before and although she did a good job it was 250 (with tip) for a cut and single process and my hair didn’t look that much different.

Question about Coatesville

So Im thinking over moving in to the area but I’ve heard the downtown area can be pretty sketchy. I found a place just north of the railroad tracks called “The Willows at Elmwood Garden” it looks pretty nice and there’s a couple of suburban style houses. So I was wondering if any locals could tell me if that area is a bit more safe? Overall the place seems like a good fit I’m just worried about it’s proximity to downtown

New to the West Chester/Unionville area. Looking for a restaurant nearby for a birthday dinner that has outside seating for my boyfriend and me. We love all kinds of food! Thanks!

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Marsh Creek State Park - May 2026
Happy Mother's Day!!!

At least I think that's what the heron was saying... heavy fog this morning before sunrise, caught the heron stalking along in the shallow water by the shore. Shot with the A99II and Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 lens, camera mounted on a RRS tripod & head with 3 Legged Think universal mounting plate.

Monday birthday meal suggestions

I’d like to do a nature walk and then Longwood for my birthday, a bunch of the places I looked at are closed Monday. Any suggestions for a good lunch and any other activities? I’m ok spending a little extra, but my food tastes are pretty “meat and potatoes.”
