Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie posted this and then he had to turn off the comments
What's the craziest thing you've seen in Charleston?
Saw this on r/nova and figured people here have seen a lot of crazy things. Being a native I've seen a lot.
Everybody has seen something strange on the roads here but I figured I'd go school related.
My senior year 2nd semester of HS we had MTV MADE filming on our campus for 3 months so this little 14 year old freshman could be "made" into a hip hop dancer so he could perform at a school-wide pep rally, the Westboro Baptist Church (the weird Kansas folks) picketed at our HS one day during school dismissal, and two of the senior class clowns were banned from graduation for posting wanted pics of an assistant principal arrested for a DUI. They showed up anyway.
What's the craziest thing you've seen?
Help in Rehoming Our Dog
Hey everyone.
It is so incredibly hard to write this type of message again, but we’ve been trying to look for a new forever home for our sweet girl, Tonks. We’ve been trying to make things work at home, but Tonks and her sister (from the same litter), Luna, have developed a lot of conflict as they’ve grown up. The two of us had no idea that littermate syndrome was a thing. After working with trainers, we’ve realized the kindest thing we can do for Tonks is to find her a home where she can be the only dog and finally feel at ease.
We’ve tried posting on Facebook and local shelter pages with no luck. We actually thought we found her people recently. A couple took her for a few days and one of them fell in love, but unfortunately, the other wasn't quite on board, so she ended up coming back to us. It was a bit of a heartbreak for everyone, but it just means her perfect home is still out there.
Tonks is a 2-year-old Lab/Heeler/Boston mix and is honestly the best of all worlds. She loves being outside and playing fetch. Once she gets her zoomies out, she’s a great cuddler. She’s already crate trained, great with kids, and even good with cats. She just needs to be your one-and-only pup. She also comes with lifetime training that can transfer to you, but I haven’t inquired how that process goes. We love her so much and just want her to have the happy, stress-free life she deserves.
You can see her full profile and more photos here
Even if you aren't in a position to take her in, please consider sharing or telling a friend. It would truly mean the world to us and would get Tonks one step closer to the quiet, happy home she needs.
Edit:
Apparently there is a discrepancy with the breed. To the best of my knowledge she wasn’t ever addressed as being part pitbull. The rescue we adopted both of our dogs from told us that the mom was a Boston terrier/heeler mix and that the dad was a mixed Labrador.
Her sister Luna looks completely different from her. She doesn’t have the same labrador features as Tonks does. Luna takes more after the Heeler/Terrier mix
Spotted this in Mount Pleasant today. Anyone else seen these around town? Gas prices have gone from bad to worse!
8 hours in CHS! My perfect day:
I spent eight hours in Charleston yesterday (I’m here for a super quick work trip) and according to my Uber driver who was a native, she told me I made the most out of my short time here and that I should share my perfect day with anyone traveling here:
- Uber dropped me off near the Pineapple Fountain. I took a lot of pictures, walked up and down rainbow row, and wandered the market.
- I was starving and got a sandwich at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit. I know, I know, this place is touristy, but I wanted to try a biscuit and pimento so badly and I didn’t have a car to go anywhere out of the way. It was a little dry, but the people working were so nice and gave me more recommendations for the day.
- I stopped for coffee three times (I woke up at 3:30am to go to the airport so I could see Charleston), so I was tired. I got lattes and sweet treats from Mudhouse, Sorelle, and Island provisions. Again, everyone was so nice! All three places had such unique lattes (root beer, strawberries and cream, local honey and vanilla bean).
- I got lunch at Fleet Landing. I had she crab soup and a caviar oyster. The oysters were the best and freshest I’ve had in my life!
- I walked up King Street from the French Quarter. I must have popped into 50 shops and could have popped into 50 more! There were SO many!
- I stopped at a Low County Art Gallery/Shop where I got to see (and purchase) art from some wonderfully talented artists.
- I ended the night at Vern’s and got a seat at the bar! They were recently awarded a Michelin Star and for GOOD REASON. This was one of the best meals of my life! Do not skip dessert!
- After dinner, I walked around even more and sat in the American Gardens.
All in all, I had such a wonderful day. Charleston, you and your people were so good to me. I can’t wait to come back again one day for longer! 🌴✨
Help: Sweet Tea
Hi all, I have a favor to ask. We recently visited Charleston and my very pregnant wife is now obsessed with sweet tea. I’ve been trying to make it for her but “it’s just not right”.
I’m sorry if I’m asking for a closely guarded secret, I wouldn’t do this if not for her. But do you all have any tips on how to make a better sweet tea?
I’ve been using Lipton Black Tea (decaf) and a bunch of honey/granulated sugar.
Rats
Recently discovered we have roof rats!! had someone come out to give a quote to trap then seal 4 gutter entry points and also spray and chemical to get of smell plus a 12 month warranty. We were quoted just about 5 thousand. I thought that seemed high but wonder if that is normal and others have done the same! Or any other options we might have! Want to deal with it asap though
Divorce attorney recommendations?
No idea where to start so if anyone has any firsthand experience unfortunately I would appreciate it.
Golf Cart on the Bridge

Reject the destruction of our historical neighborhoods and countless ecosystems
On May 19th, 2026 at 5:15PM there will be a public hearing to build an oversized dwelling in Maryville/Ashleyville West Ashley. This construction will destroy the natural habitat of countless species living here, including the removable of 300+ year old trees.
Please make your voices heard!
We cannot let them destroy our beautiful historical neighborhoods!
